“Good place for skiing and snowboarding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013 via mobile

Stayed at Timber Ridge Dec 2012, upon arrival our room was ready early which was a plus. Once in the room, which was nice and cozy however controlling the temperature inside the room was difficult. Once the air turned on, it was loud and during the night the room temperature went steadily down. It was cold in the room after about two hours at night and we had to adjust the temps during the night constantly. The water park is great for kids and having the game room right across the hallway was a plus. The place could use another restaurant but you can always go to the Grand Geneva resort with four restaurants (over priced restaurants). But the skiing, snowboarding and sledding were good.

po153c~ Thank you for your comments. I apologize for the issues you had with the heat in your room. I have informed our engineering department of this so they can correct the issue. We do have a lot of fun activities on property during the winter season. I am happy that you were able to enjoy skiing and snowboarding at The Mountain Top and our sledding area. Please come back and visit us again soon. ~ Leslie

We took the kids up to Timber Ridge for a 1 night trip to the water park. Check in was friendly and efficient, dropped our stuff in the room and headed strait for the water park. I would agree with other here that said it was geared for the younger set. Our kids are 9 and 12 and they were pretty bored. After a couple of trips down the various slides, which were very fun, there wasn't much else to do. The lazy river depth was very shallow in some places and the kids being off and on the tubes came out of there with scraped knees and elbows. The "spray park" part was for the little ones and that's basically it. If was not crowded at all which was a huge plus, but even though we had tickets for the next day, they decided that didn't want to go back. They did have a very enjoyable time at the game room and the attendant was really good with the kids! The room itself was very dated. We travel a lot both for work and as a family and I think I definitely got taken in by the "Grand Geneva" name. The rooms don't seem to have been refreshed since they were built. Still using the old grimy bed spreads instead of the fresh linens and duvets that most other hotels/resorts have gone to. The layout of the 2 bedroom way very weird as well. If you sat at the kitchen table, you couldn't walk from the kitchen to the living room. Also it wasn't a true 2 bedroom, the 2nd sleeping area is a loft type area, so there is no chance of putting a kid to sleep and letting the grown ups stay in the living room/kitchen area. Finally we had a heater that had a mind of its own. Changing the thermostat setting or the settings on the unit itself had no impact whatsoever, it just kept blasting heat. we finally had to pull the plug. We decided as a family since we were only there for the 1 night, that we'd rather sleep in our own beds and made the decision around 9:30 to drive back to the Chicago burbs instead of spending the night. To answer a forthcoming question, we didn't call down or ask to have some of the issues fixed, I am sure they would have tried to accommodate us, again with it being just 1 night, we didn't want to go thru the hassle. Bottom line if you have young ones and are looking for a quick water-park trip. This is not a bad option. I don't think we would return.

PS. One other strange note, the kids who do the life-guarding at the park take their jobs VERY seriously. I really appreciate the focus on safety. They may want to take a refresher on hospitality. They are not mutually exclusive.

Room Tip: Stay closer to the water park if you can.

This is one of the best water parks around. The temperature both in the water and in the water park itself are perfect! There are enough water activities for big and small and the game room is even nice. The staff is very nice also. My only two complaints would be that 1) when we checked in it took a little bit of time because they only have two registers and 2) ChicagoMom2003 is right. The sleeper sofa is not that comfortable, however, I doubt most kids will notice. One other thing, the fireplace gets really hot. They have put a removable screen thing in front of it, but that can easily be knocked down by little ones, so I wouldn't use it around them. Otherwise, a great stay for a great price.

We came to Timber Ridger in summer, and now for the New Year. It's great to be able to enjoy the waterpark in the middle of winter, and the Xmas decorations throughout the Grand Geneva Resort are impressive. The Wellness Center and Spa provided a huge selection of exercising or massages and other luxuries. Only complaints I have is of the sofa bed, and super noisy heater/air conditioner. You are much more comfortable sleeping on the floor instead:(

Room Tip: We like the double room suite with the kitchenette.

Have been coming up to Timber Ridge and Grand Geneva for many years. Fantastic water park with an exceptional and friendly staff and lifeguards. Single and double tube slides as well as a body slide. Great areas for younger ones as well, with a zero depth area for infants and toddlers with water sprays and fountains and a floating obstacle course for older kids.

Restaurant in the water park as well as Smokey's restaurant within the hotel are great. A+ rooms, staff and service.

Room Tip: Some floors have quiet hours after 11:00 p.m. - ask.

Though the 1 bedroom suites are very spacious, the problem is that the hide-a-beds should not count as a place to sleep unless it's comfortable enough to actually sleep on. Sofa hide-a-beds are rarely very comfortable, but the ones here are very old and sorely need replacing - especially since they count it as an "official" sleeping area. I had two 10 year old girls with me, and the metal slats and paper-thin mattress in the hide-a-bed was so painful to lay on they opted to sleep on the floor instead. I tried it too, and it was unbelievably bad. The rooms here are very expensive because of the condo-nature of the rooms - the convenience of having a nearly-full sized kitchen, a jacuzzi tub and a separate bedroom. What you don't get is a place to sleep for anyone who does not use a bedroom with a real bed. Our room was very clean, but hallway carpets on the 1st floor are in desperate need of shampooing. The elevators were also very dirty, which doesn't give you a great feeling considering the high price you pay for the resort. The two-person jacuzzi tubs are treacherous for showering due to extremely slippery floors, the high sides of the tub and raised seating inside the tub that make getting in and out difficult and potentially dangerous. Chemical levels in the water park water are very, very high. Most water park resorts these days use a combination of treatments, including UV, that reduce the amount of caustic chemicals needed. It does not seem that Timber Ridge has modernized their water-treatment systems, and so the result is burning eyes, nostrils, very dry skin and damaged hair even when you shower immediately after leaving the water park. In addition, the locker room has ZERO private dressing areas and the open showers smelled very strongly of mildew. I would definitely NOT change or shower in the locker room. Our previous experience here in 2007 was a pleasant one, but since visiting other water park resorts and seeing their high quality and better-value prices, our return trip to Timber Ridge was disappointing. Some things I did like were their helpful and kind staff, the smaller size of the water park made it easy to keep an eye on your kids from nearly anywhere, the rules in the water park are more lenient that other places which adds to the fun, the regular schedule of kid's activities, the in-room fireplace is wonderful, and the food/prices at the water park snack bar are reasonable. However, I don't think I'll be back here because it's just not a good value for our family without a comfortable place for everyone to sleep. These issues could be remedied with new sofa sleepers, updating the water treatment system and a attention/updating to the locker room.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are at water park level. Views are better on higher floors. The bedrooms in...

My family has visited this resort in winter & summer & have found this to be an ideal spot for a quick getaway. The kids love the pools which have never been overcrowded during our visits. The restaurants are adequate & there is a well stocked shop on site. There are other activities for the kids & they are never bored. The rooms are spacious & the kitchen area is a nice bonus. Hotel staff are friendly & helpful. Shuttle bus runs frequently to the Grand Geneva for a change of pace & downtown Lake Geneva is close, but not so close that the crowds are a problem. Highly recommend.
