We took the kids up to Timber Ridge for a 1 night trip to the water park. Check in was friendly and efficient, dropped our stuff in the room and headed strait for the water park. I would agree with other here that said it was geared for the younger set. Our kids are 9 and 12 and they were pretty bored. After a couple of trips down the various slides, which were very fun, there wasn't much else to do. The lazy river depth was very shallow in some places and the kids being off and on the tubes came out of there with scraped knees and elbows. The "spray park" part was for the little ones and that's basically it. If was not crowded at all which was a huge plus, but even though we had tickets for the next day, they decided that didn't want to go back. They did have a very enjoyable time at the game room and the attendant was really good with the kids! The room itself was very dated. We travel a lot both for work and as a family and I think I definitely got taken in by the "Grand Geneva" name. The rooms don't seem to have been refreshed since they were built. Still using the old grimy bed spreads instead of the fresh linens and duvets that most other hotels/resorts have gone to. The layout of the 2 bedroom way very weird as well. If you sat at the kitchen table, you couldn't walk from the kitchen to the living room. Also it wasn't a true 2 bedroom, the 2nd sleeping area is a loft type area, so there is no chance of putting a kid to sleep and letting the grown ups stay in the living room/kitchen area. Finally we had a heater that had a mind of its own. Changing the thermostat setting or the settings on the unit itself had no impact whatsoever, it just kept blasting heat. we finally had to pull the plug. We decided as a family since we were only there for the 1 night, that we'd rather sleep in our own beds and made the decision around 9:30 to drive back to the Chicago burbs instead of spending the night. To answer a forthcoming question, we didn't call down or ask to have some of the issues fixed, I am sure they would have tried to accommodate us, again with it being just 1 night, we didn't want to go thru the hassle. Bottom line if you have young ones and are looking for a quick water-park trip. This is not a bad option. I don't think we would return.
PS. One other strange note, the kids who do the life-guarding at the park take their jobs VERY seriously. I really appreciate the focus on safety. They may want to take a refresher on hospitality. They are not mutually exclusive.
Room Tip: Stay closer to the water park if you can.
