“It was OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

This Inn is ok, a little false advertising though. The short walk to town is along a narrow foot path through homes backyards. Thats fine thats an appeal of Lake Geneva but not a nice walk with young children. The hotel is ok at best, for the price I think there are better choices in Lake Geneva. The hotel really needs some updating in the rooms. Peeling wallpaper, filthy balconey. Advertise there right on the lake, they are but there really is not any place to sit and enjoy the lake, unless you fork out more money for a lake view room. You can not even receive a cup of coffee untill 7:30, not what I call luxury.

We appreciate the opportunity to clarify that the walk to town is 2 1/2 miles, along the lake path, and the view of the homes from the lake path is indeed part of Geneva Lake's charm.
We tell guests that it is a good 40 minute hike, and we do not recommend it for families with small children.
We are the only hotel directly on the lake, and we offer a lovely patio with tables and chairs where our guests can relax and enjoy the view, as well as offering complimentary continental breakfast daily from 7:30 until 10AM, in the Grandview Restaurant, with panoramic lake views. Coffee is available by 7AM.

My husband and I stayed at the Geneva Inn last week and loved it. We chose to stay in a land view room this time because it was a bit cheaper than the lake view rooms. We were delighted with the room! It was spacious and clean. We also ate in the dining room for dinner and the food and service were excellent. Prices were high, but the quality of the food was worth it. We also enjoyed the complimentary breakfast buffet. Probably the highlight of our brief visit was sitting out on the patio, drinking some great wine, and enjoying the fabulous view of Lake Geneva. This is a very special place and you won't be disappointed staying there!

My hubby and I celebrated our anniversary here. The staff - everyone from the front desk to the valet/ shuttle driver - is warm, down to earth, and very helpful. The room was clean, charming without being stuffy, and had a wonderfully soft bed. Our room had a balcony, although the landside rooms overlooked the parking lot, and the patio furniture showed a little end-of-season wear. The radio and TV are a little antiquated - but I'm guessing most guests don't spend their time catching up the latest shows. The inn is directly on Lake Geneva, with access to the lake shore path that crosses several large estates. A state park with picnic tables and a small beach is very nearby. Overall, an extremely relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms have a view of Lake Geneva, landside rooms overlook the parking lot.

We stayed at the Geneva Inn because I had purchased a Groupon reduced rate certificate for $95. We live about 35 miles south of lake Geneva, but have not been there in 15+ years - too touisty for my taste! That opinion changed after our July visit because we stayed at this wonderful hotel!

After entering through the doors held open by a young man, we were immediately checked in by a kind receptionist, and we were in our corner room within 8 minutes. Our room was immaculate, totally smoke-free (woo-hoo!), with a view of Lake Geneva that was spectacular. We truly felt we were on one of our Eurorpean getaways!

It was very obvious the Inn had gone under a refurbishment because everything was new not dilapadated. The room had 2 comfortable double beds, comfortable chair, large flat-screen TV, AND a connected DVD player! My niece had brought her portable DVD 6" player to watch her movies at night but this wasn't necessary due to this wonderful surprise! My favorite part of the room was the large balcony overlooking the patio, dock, and Lake Geneva - a great place to watch the sunset! (It was well worth the $60 Groupon upgrade charge!) Besides the usual soaps, the large bathroom was stocked w/shampoo, conditioner, lotion, mouthwash, shower cap, and q-tips! There was another sink outside the room, as well as a refrigerator, stocked with 2 bottles of FREE water, replenished later that night during turn down service, along with FREE chocolates!

The hotel's hallways were very warm because of the way it is built and the weather during our visit was EXTREMELY hot and humid, over 100 degrees. One of my concerns was that the room would never be cool enough. But, I was wrong! The cold air blew and we slept comfortably all night. Noise from neighbors was not an issue, either.

Shortly after our arrival, we were parked in downtown Lake Geneva and waiting for our boat tour. This hotel is not within walking MY distance of the town, but can be walked along the lake path - about 2-3 miles. The hotel also has a large van parked outside the hotel ready & willing to take guests to the town. There wasn't a need for us to drive and pay the meters to park, but we did!

My only complaint about our trip was the lack of help in finding a nice local place to eat dinner that night. The gentleman that helped us couldn't really suggest a place with fervor, nor did he have the menu for the one we did choose. Perhaps this was more due to the area being touisty - and not known for its culinary skills! We went to Sprechler's and we were disappointed in the food AND service! Our food was brought out in spurts, and they completely forgot to bring out my niece's dinner until we asked our server when it was coming. It finally arrived 10 minutes after our meals and the server said the kitchen "forgot" about it!

The next morning we went down to take part in the free breakfast. Again, I was surprised to see the quality and amount of food offered. There was toast, bagels, deli tray with meats & cheeses, yogurt, cereal, a fruit tray, croissants, & an array of juices. Sitting at tables with white cloth tablecloths and real china - not plastic spoons & forks, along with the breath-taking view overlooking the lake from the large dining room reminded me of being in a small European village! (I thought I saw a sign mentioning that for a nominal charge, additional breakfast items were available, but I didn't see how one took advantage of that offer.)

After breakfast, we went back to town and did some souvenir shopping then back to the hotel to relax until check-out at 11 AM. Checkout was as quick and efficient as our check-in the day before.

While I have stayed in some fabulous hotels across America, Australia, & Europe, this hotel will be one of my favorites. We will definitely be back next year!

Room Tip: The receptionist said that the corner rooms are the largest. Pay extra for the lake view, otherwise...

Rooms need updating, very 80's but clean. Location ideal and on lake with boat slips for rent. A must for boater. View is the best aspect of hotel no question. Restaurant has older local crowd for lunch and dinner, not the younger folks (30-40's crowd).staff was generally average at best, not customer friendly or well trained on pleasantries. Some luxury hotel chain should buy this property and turn in to a incredible property. Rooms were 185 or 300 for lake view. Overall good not excellent.

Wonderful place in all ways. I strongly recommend getting a lake view room and having lunch on the patio. If you choose to walk around part of the lake, you can call the staff and they will pick you up and bring you back to the hotel! while you are there, don't miss the Mailboat Tour of the lake.

Booked this hotel due to a groupon deal. From the moment we walked in to the lobby, to our beautiful room and awesome view from the outdoor veranda, we knew this would be a great weekend. The Geneva Inn is located about 2 miles from downtown but is a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle. Our room was a king deluxe and had a large bathroom with a separate whirlpool tub and corner shower. Turn down service every night, coffee service on our floor and a nice continental breakfast made this a great place to stay. Would definitely stay here again!
