“Riverside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Very nice campground with plenty of space between sites. The park was about 75% full however even if it were full there is good space to roam and not feel cramped in. Concur with previous rater that unless you have a pull through it is better to remove towed vehicle at check in line. The driving lanes in the park are narrow and it would be hard for another vehicle to get by. We had site 113, which was a back in on the river's back water edge. It was neat to set out our chairs and enjoy the day come to an end while watching the various boats make their way back to mooring. The cable was not functioning at our site however that didn't bother me so much as we weren't there to watch TV. Check in was easy once we got past the wedding party as they have a hall adjacent to the check in building..which is actually a bar too. All aside, an easy park to find with great access to LaCrosse and the water front. If you have a boat call in advance and try to arrange a site along the 400 numbers as you could probably put the boat on the bank behind your RV.

Pettibone consists of two very long campgrounds located on an island just east of the US 14/61 Mississippi riverbridge from downtown LaCrosse. An efficient, multi-tasking bar staff in Pettibone's lounge/bar/campstore building handles check-in and operates the keypad entrance gate during the day. Unless you rent a pull-thru, you'll need to unhook any tow vehicles in their parking lot before you enter the campground areas.

We had a nice, shaded back-in site with a cement patio and cement wheel-path strips, so was very level. The Mississippi river/slews/marina are along both sides of the campgrounds so there are alot of sites right on the water. (If this summer had not been the drought of the century, the mosquito population would likely have been more intimidating.) The main campground was a couple blocks long. Depending upon your site location, the shower/restroom building can be a long walk which explains why so many seasonal campers had golf carts.

Their facilities were OK clean, consisted of 4 showers and 6 stalls, water was hot, pressure was good. Being totally flat at river level, sewer systems do not drain well so there are no sewers at any of the sites but they have 2 well-equipped dump stations on your way out. The long campgrounds were great exercise and the bridge over the Mississippi River made for a nice, long uphill walk or easy bike ride to downtown LaCrosse's entertainment area.

This is the first time at this campground and I would defiantly come back. The sites were clean and spacious and have water, electricity and cable. The staff was friendly. I loved the idea of the concrete patios and the idea of being so close to the Mississippi, where we did some fishing. They have a playground and beach. They offer Basketball and Horse Shoes plus Canoe rentals. They offer no coin shower houses and has a laundry facility. There are no full hookup sites, but they offer Honey Wagon service and have two nice dump stations.
