“DO NOT STAY at Brookstone Inn in La Crosse, WI!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

Absolutey the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I booked it last minute through the local visitor book, I wronged picked it based on the name Hotel "Brookstone Inn". It was smelly, dirty, walls are paper thin, I was woke up 3 times in the night by drunk people being loud, including a 2am hallway fight outside out room. Pool & whirlpool were dirty, service was very poor, front dest guy said there was nothing he could do.

I wish I would have read REVIEWS before I stayed.

Room Tip: RECOMMEND not to stay at this hotel...Best Western Plus is across the street, I walked over there fo...

“Camping would be a double upgrade!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

Let's start by saying that I didn't choose this place, but it was chosen for me as a chaperone for a conference that I attended with a group of 36 people. Prior to going I had read reviews as I always do, and was shocked at the choice made for us. I packed extra rubber gloves, Clorox wipes, and febreeze and was prepared to use all of them. Check in was smooth, and explained breakfast and gave us a wifi password. Upon entering the elevator, it was determined that we would be using the stairs for the remainder of the stay. The smell in the elevator was a cross between stale beer/body odor/mold and butt. Upon entering the room, it appeared if the carpet has not been vacuumed in years. There were peanuts under the counters and under the bed. I promptly started cleaning with my wipes. The counters had dried on food (at least that is what I'm hoping it was), the coffee maker had a thick layer of dust in and on it (even after cleaning it I never drank out of it), the bathroom floor had dirt on it, and grossest of all the shower had pubic hair in it. Others in our group had bugs in their bed, and equally dirty rooms. The wifi password never worked on our ipod, ipad or iphone. The front desk said it only works on rooms close to the front desk or in the lobby. Several rooms had to change out their keys because they continuously became deactivated. Mine being one of them (and I never had mine near a credit card).
To be fair, it appears they have updated their TV's since the TV is a flat screen. The breakfast is complimentary, and although basic (hence complimentary) did the job. Their were 4 choices of cereal, bread, english muffins, muffins, danish, donuts, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. The lady that was the breakfast host during the 2 nights we were there was always friendly and made sure the food was refreshed and tables were clean.

“A good value, being up dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

I've been staying at the Brookstone about once a month since it opened. I think its is on its third owner. Yes, it has deteriorated over its life span, but the new owner and Lyle are renovating the Vanities,HVAC units, and TV sets as well as replacing broken stuff as they are made aware of them. They are providing a good value for a Queen bed for a single or couple. If you stay there, don't be afraid to point out a shortcoming, they can't fix what they don't know about. BIGJOHN.

“Reasonable Budget Inn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2012

I was in town for a sports tournament with my nephew and had to book last minute so there were few options available that met my requirement of a pool for my nephew. The front desk didn't have my reservation (Booked on Expedia) or that of the guest before me but they checked me in based on my word and didn't even take my credit card #. They were very courteous and efficient at check in.

The room was as expected for a $60 hotel room. Two beds, they were reasonably comfortable, plenty of pillows, temperature was pefect, flat screen tv with cable and it was clean. Bathroom was small but functional. Bathtub had a little "gunk" around handle on the side of tub but overall it wasn't bad, very good shower pressure!

The pool is SMALL. If you are staying because of this you may not be happy. Thankfully my nephew (10 yrs old) brought a toy that we played with so he was pretty happy. The pool is definitely not a reason to stay at this hotel.

Breakfast was your typical cheap hotel continental, danish was ok, a few cereal choices, milk, juice, toast, no fruit which was a bummer. Nothing great but it got me going so I was happy.

Overall, it was an OK stay. My Nephew was happy so I was happy. I certainly wouldn't expect too much more out of a $60 room.

“LOL”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

Definitely the trailer trash of hotels, broken toilet seat in room, dirty carpet, stains on the walls, restrooms near the pool (LOL) my tub at home is bigger, were disgusting, hot tub, definetly people soup, yuk! Elevator smelled like butt, I think someone might have peed in the corner. I will reconsider booking on-line again and not be so cheap, you get what you pay for here. But, if you like bud-light and smell funky, this is the place for you.
