“Owner's are nice. No frills. Convenient to downtown.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2010

We spent two nights here during Musky Festival. We had a one of the riverfront rooms with a deck facing the river. The hotel is older and a tad outdated but kept very clean. My husband was able to fish from the small fishing pier, which he enjoyed. You have to ask for ice at the front desk, so don't expect to fill a cooler. There was no iron in the room, but the owner quickly delivered one when when I called. TV's are tiny, but there was a DVD player in the room. Riverside is average and we would stay there again, if our preferred properties in the area are full. The owner's also have cabin's on the same property. Those would be worth checking out. That part is called Mallard's Landing.

Innkeeper27, Guest Relations Manager at The Riverside Motel, responded to this review, February 23, 2011
The innkeepers are very happy to accomodate all types of reservations, long term, short notice, overflow from other hotes if availability allows. They recommend to all future guests to view their websites which have been re-designed recently. What you see there is what you get, including the lovely river view from our Waterfront Rooms. We gladly show our property to walk-ins, and usually people are impressed about the size of the rooms, room detail and the location. Possible updates are reviewed and done on a regular basis, every year. What the owners decide to do at any given time depends on what is considered desirable and necessary, and the available funds. Room rates are very reasonable, and motel amenities, while they might be considered modest by some, offer a personal touch and details not offered in average motels. To be compared to a full service luxury hotel by some is a compliment but to try to be one is not the objective. Most of our guests prefer to talk to us in person instead of writing internet reviews. As much as ratings on any website are appreciated, some are objectionable and do not reflect most of our guest's opinion.

The location of the motel was good. Close to downtown. The room was very clean and well maintained. We enjoy the smaller, more personal motels. Our room overlooked Lake Hayward and the view was very pretty. I would recommend this to travelers heading to Hayward, Wisconsin.

The "suite " is very small. The queen bed is not the size of a true queen bed. The lighting in the room is terrible; very dimly lit. Wireless internet not available, no vending machines, TV is 15 yrs or older approx size 12 inches. None of the usual soaps etc typically found in motel rooms. Prices are very high given the competition; Flat Creek & Comfort Suites prvide far more value at the same or less cost. Motel is listed for sale and it appears owners are just hanging on hoping for a buyer rather than upgrade the facility. Would not recomend this place to anyone.

The Riverside Motel is a privately owned, owner operated 15 unit motel three blocks to downtown Hayward, overlooking the Namekagon River/Lake Hayward. The owners are proud to offer clean and comfortable rooms in walking distance to downtown. The room referred to as "Suite" must have been one of our Waterfront Studio Rooms with private deck overlooking the water. Our five Waterfront rooms received new high quality furniture, new carpeting and new entrance doors approximately six years ago. Waterfront Studio rooms have one queen size bed (we purchased it as such), a high quality sleeper sofa, DSL hi speed internet, TV/DVD and hairdryers. These guest rooms are considered oversized with vaulted ceilings and separate dressing areas. The TV's are approximately nine years old, DVD players were purchased five years ago. There is a ceiling light in the entrance, four vanity lights in the dressing area, one ceiling light above the activity table, one lamp on the night stand, one lamp on the commode, and a ceiling light in the bathroom. Cool Soft drinks are available for purchase in the office during business hours, also free ice.
In the spring of 2009, our guest room buildings were remodeled from the outside. All older decorations (heavy beams and shipyard anchor chains) were removed, and the buildings received a fresh coat of paint.
Later in the summer, the southern view of our Waterfront rooms was also completed, giving the motel a more updated look. Our 10 Standard rooms located roadside are constructed with solid building blocks, and do not allow the wireless signal to penetrate. DSL internet was installed in six of our de-luxe rooms four years ago, and an ethernet cable is available in our office. The restaurant across the street and other locations in walking distance offer wireless internet.
All of our rooms have microwave ovens,
snack size refrigerators and coffee makers.
A continental breakfast is offered in the morning in our office. In the spring, we also purchased new patio furniture for each of our five Waterfront Rooms.

We went to Hayward to spend a couple days kayaking. We were looking for a base camp and a place to crash for the night. The Riverside Motel was perfect! The rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a wonderful weekend. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a nice, clean place to rest after a long day exploring the area.

We have stayed at the Riverside Motel for many years. It is our favorite place to stay of anywhere we have traveled. If you want an immaculate and quiet room, this is for you. Horst and Elisabeth, the owners, are very friendly, cordial and alway ready to serve. We alway stay in one of the riverside rooms and they are great. The deck through the patio doors, right on the river is a very pleasant place to sit and relax. You can fish off the pier and the river is available for boating. There are numerous attractions within walking distance. Try it, you'll like it.
