“Excellent Brunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

Three of us enjoyed the brunch today. The selections were out of the ordinary and all our choices were delicious. Waite staff pleasant and friendly. We enjoyed the fruit plate as well as the pastry basket with that sweet cream butter spread. We will definitely will return to try an evening meal.

“Really want to like it but always leave dissapointed!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

We have now ate here a couple of times since the new ownership took over and we really want to love it.. The food is good and it has a nice ambience, and the service is good, but they are always way understaffed in the waitstaff department. For instance, today we went for brunch, our waitress was very nice, but she was the only waitress in the place at 11:00am on a Sunday morning, which to me as someone who waitressed for many years is completely unheard of, our waitress had about 8 tables which is way too many for one server to give good service, it was very hard to enjy ourselves when we had to wait soo long for everything from the time we ordered our drinks til when we got them, it had to be about 10-15 minutes, and things didn't get any better! Sorry to say because the food has always been good, that we probably will not be back!

“Good food at reasonable prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2014

It may seem odd that I am giving Pike Lake House the same 4 star rating as Harbor House, but you have to consider everything. Certainly HH has magnificent views and very good food, but Pike Lake House is no slacker in the food department either and for approximately $15-20 difference per plate I have to say it is well worth it. It is unfortunate more people aren't flocking to this place. It is without a doubt the best restaurant in Hartford and maybe the county. We went this past Saturday night at seven and only about 1/2 of the tables were full. I had the grouper special and it was very tasty. My wife had the swordfish special and hers was awesome. Really cooked well and the sauce was yummy. Our guest had the schnitzel with potato pancakes and a fried egg. Maybe not the best schnitzel I ever tasted, but it was well worth the price. She enjoyed every bite. We finished up with a dark chocolate cake that was decadent. By the way, we ate upstairs in the dining room. Ww have eaten previously in the lower level bar and had a fried chicken dinner that was to die for. Check this place out.

“What a Brunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

My wife and I made the pleasant 30 minute drive to Pike Lake House to try their favorably reviewed Sunday Brunch. If anything, the rave reviews had been underselling how good it was. We were greeted and shown to a table in the pleasant upstairs dining room. Our waitress took our drink order immediately and explained that our Bloody Mary and Mimosa were part of the brunch. So were a fantastic basket of warm bakery (including popovers, muffins and biscuits) and whipped butter and preserves. She also brought a plate of fresh cut fruit to the table, and we had to stop ourselves from filling up on the amazing prelims to our breakfast entrees. I had the Slammer Special, which included bacon, sausage, potatoes, roast beef hash and eggs to order. My wife had the stuffed hash browns with mushrooms, feta, spinach and balsamic reduction. Both were done perfectly and served on warm plates. This place is chef-owned and the attention to detail shows. Everything was perfect. Did I mention the whole breakfast (including great Collectivo coffee) was only $14 each? We'll be skipping the $25 semi warm, semi old food in a chafing dish buffets and making the trip to the Pike Lake House again for brunch soon (and can't wait to try their dinner menu).

“Easter Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Our first visit here was Easter Dinner for 6. There were 7 or 8 different entries, all for the same price. Our group tried 5 of the items. Food was well prepared, very satisfactory for amount of food and great tastes. Fruit plate and pre meal muffin plate was very tasty and plentiful for all 6. Juice and slurpy, included, very plentiful and well prepared. Waitresses were fast and friendly. Plates were prepared swiftly for the number eating and all were presented in a hot condition. It was a nice Easter meal and 100% better than "buffet" meals we had at past Easter' s in this area. Will certainly try the restaurant again.
