This is a place where you can go and forget you are surrounded by a metropolitan area. The Boerner Botanical Gardens are lovely, and there are types of gardens here for many different flora preferences.
Great masses of wildflowers and other perennials are complimented by the vivid colors of the many annuals. There are special areas for roses, daylilies, peonies, and much more. A beautiful rock garden and a bog walk add to the enjoyment and diversity. There’s even a “shrub mall”.
The Boerner Gardens are more than plants. Throughout the area are many kinds of artwork, with different garden themes. There are formal fountains and statuary, but you may also encounter a giant fiberglass butterfly.
It takes time to walk all the paths, but if you wish to visit just certain displays, you can download garden maps from BBG website. There is also a handy bar graph, showing peak blooming seasons for the different plants.
Well-worth a visit, the Boerner Botanical Gardens afford an enjoyable break from a busy urban life.
