The Heidel House is a great place to go for a relaxing weekend. Good restaurants, beautiful location, nice laid back atmosphere. The only drawback is the front desk staff can be fairly incompetent. Get everything in writing and double check the room rates. You can often get a package that includes breakfast for cheaper than the rate they quote for just the room.

I've been to Heidel House numerous times and have stayed at most of the other motels in town. Certainly Heidel House is the nicest place on the lake.

The lakeside rooms are nice especially with the sliding doors and small balcony overlookng the water. However, the ones facing the parking lot/trees can feel a bit clostrophobic since there are no sliding doors/balcony. Also the rooms in the main Lac Verde building are newer and bit nicer due to that building being rennovated more recently.

Just know that in summer, especially on weekends, it has a pool that's a magnet for screaming kids. If your room overlooks the pool bring ear plugs.

Finally, while this is the nicest hotel on the lake, it's definately not a Four Seasons or even a Hyatt. It's more along the lines of... oh, maybe a Radisson -- fine and all, but not top luxury.

All in all, though, I definately would recommend it -- unless you're looking for a fishing cabin. Then try Greenway Log Cottages.

  • Liked — On the lake
  • Disliked — Lottsa loud kids
  • Tips/Secrets — Book your room in the main Lac Verde building (facing the lake). It's the newer part of the hotel.

This was our first nite away with our two girls (3 and 2). We booked a family package for two weekday nights. With that package we enjoyed breafast or lunch in the sunroom. They had excellent food, slow service, especially with two small children. We also recieved a coupon for pizza at the Boathouse. Service was terribly slow, food OK. Upon arrival, we found an nice treat table w/ soda, bottled water, cookies, chips and salsa and a nut mix, along w. a coupon for a free in room movie. We figured the coupons were worth at least $50 a day. We stayed two nights on the family package and felt like I had to beg for the 2nd nite food coupons and snacks. We stayed in the Lac Verde building w/ 2 quen beds. Clean but outdated. Also, we faced the parking lot, lake views would have been better. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool. Nothing fancy, they don't know what a waterpark is yet, so they weren't disappointed. The tile was very slippery and not very clean. Two large hot tubs that my husband enjoyed. The grounds were nothing special although it seemed like there were many people working around the area. Grren Lake is a beautiful area. The Heidel House has a great reputation, will probably go back w/ just my husband and stay in a newer room.

We always go up to Green Lake for their Harvest Fest celebration, but this year we decided to stay at the Heidel House with all of our family (kind of a family reunion). What a blast! Our rooms were great, overlooking big Green Lake. We ate in all three restaurants and even stoped for ice cream. The atmosphere is very relaxing and all the staff is very accommodating.

We spent the weekend at Heidel House for Mother's Day. We had an excellent time. We were treated like part of their family. The desk called us by our name instead of Sir or Miss. Each staff member greeted us as we walked the hallways. When we had a question about the area, they were very knowledgable. The rooms were very clean and the they had to have had the clearest pool I've ever seen. We ended our stay with the Sunday brunch for Mother's Day. The food was out of this world, my favorite was the omelet station! The grounds were stunning and you can't beat the view of Green Lake. I highly recommend this place.
