“Perfect Romantic Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

If you're looking for a quiet spot for a romantic weekend, this definitely is it. I planned a surprise weekend getaway for my husband, and the Lazy Cloud B&B was perfect for us! The grounds are landscaped beautifully and the entire setting is peaceful & relaxing. We stayed in the Log Cabin Suite. It was so romantic with the whirlpool tub and fireplace -- the latter of which we still made use of in July. We enjoyed breakfast outdoors, but just a little tip: you'll have a better breakfast experience if you don't wait until 10 minutes before breakfast is over, but getting up later was worth it for us. We ordered a special dessert (the brownies and coffee) for our first night, and they were awesome. As a couple other reviewers mentioned, the suite did seem slightly musty at first, but since this is an older building with a whirlpool tub inside, it's understandable and really hardly noticeable. Quite honestly, I read nearly every review before I booked our stay here, and I could not have been happier with the Lazy Cloud. It was the perfect romantic getaway and an experience my husband and I will never forget!

We are delighted that you chose Lazy Cloud Lodge as your destination for your surprise getaway weekend for your husband. And your choice of the Log Cabin suite couldn’t have been more perfect! It is a great suite, isn’t it? If I could, I would pick up the whole suite and set it down in the woods; and could live quite contentedly inside for quite some time!

Isn’t it great to get one of our Fireside Desserts and be able to actually eat it in front of the fireplace, even if it is July? You are quite right...... the brownies are totally awesome, aren't they?

As for breakfast, depending on the weekend, there are certain items and dishes that seem to go quickly. However I am with you, Erin, sometimes spending longer in bed and not rushing to get up and out, is worth missing out on a few items from the breakfast buffet.

Again we are delighted you spent time with us and we hope you will return again. Just an idea but a winter getaway is very romantic, especially if we get a wee bit of snow during your getaway.

A walk on the grounds during a lightly falling snow, and then back to your suite where the Innkeeper greets you with one of our picnics, that you can eat in front of your blazing fireplace, is truly a winter weekend to remember…..Just sayin’ :)

We stayed for a couple of nights at the lazy cloud b&b (not to be confused with the other lazy cloud property on highway 50)& we loved every minute! We requested the Enchanted Treehouse suite as it had a private deck upstairs, and this proved to be an excellent choice. There are double jacuzzi baths in each suite, plus a shower room and in room sink. There are so many little details the owners have thought of - a bottle of wine and a massive apple caramel cake on arrival, candles, bubble bath, popcorn, just everything! The room had a fridge and microwave, although-our only gripe-no coffee maker. There were fairy lights on the ceiling and a lovely romantic atmosphere, even for two cynical Brits! We loved everything there. People had left messages and their names on bottle corks, plus dollars were hidden around the room to seek out. The deck was lovely each evening. A tree grew through the centre of it, like Swiss Family Robinson. The chairs out there were comfy and we could sit and watch the stars at night. The gardens were very pretty - we took breakfast outside which was super. The food was fabulous - fresh waffles, cakes, bagels, fruit. ..wonderful. The staff were delightful too. The location was good, and we enjoyed walking the lakeside trail from Williams Bay. Lots of nice restaurants nearby. This was the highlight of our US road trip!

We appreciate all of our guests, but it is a special treat when we have visitors from other countries—especially when they are kind enough to take the time to send a review!! And of course, we always try to get them to talk as much as possible, because we love the different accents. We hope you weren’t pestered too much!!

Yes, the Treehouse does have rather a magical quality to it, doesn’t it? We are so happy that you enjoyed the layout; actually, it is the only suite we have that has the bathroom components in different areas.

It is wonderful that you took advantage of the unique walking path around beautiful Lake Geneva; most lakes restrict public access, and we are so fortunate that everyone is able to enjoy the historic homes and nature along the path!

Although there are no coffee makers in the rooms at the B&B, our breakfast person is usually in quite early and is always happy to make a pot of coffee for you, as are the innkeepers at any time during the day. I hope you asked!!

We wish you safe and happy travels and hope to see you again in the future. Thanks again for being our guests; we hope that we are able to visit your beautiful country one day!

Pros
Lovely gardens and very quiet property
Close parking
Very sweet folks and trying their best
wine choices and Strawberries are a nice touch
Cons
Our suite was musty - could have been the two room air-conditioners or all the hanging silk flowers. The communal bucket of Suave products was a turn off. Up date your lines please. We honestly baled at sleeping at the unit. We had dinner at a wonderful Resort across town and my husband asked how much a room would be. For half the price of this dated suite we could have a large,
modern, comfortable room. We opted to do that. We did return for the breakfast and it was very average. A Holiday Inn Express would offer the same choices. They did serve a choice of juices, a waffle and the rest was buffet with cold cereals and bagels.

Suggestions:
Get rid of all the dated silk flowers. A really pot of a ivy or flowering plant would be fine.
Nicer individual products would be appreciated.
More luxury sheeting
Just smells musty.
We have stayed at many B and B's across the country. This was our anniversary and we were very disappointed.

Went for our Valentines day celebration and stayed from Friday til Sunday. The room was amazing, we stayed in the Log Cabin Suite. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. The decor is a little outdated, but for us we thought it was appropriate for the log cabin theme.

We played the dollar game and the enchanted evening game. We recommend doing both, the dollar game is just run to go exploring the room and the enchanted evening game is very romantic. Also, I recommend reading the journal entries from the previous guests. We just sat around reading other peoples love stories and experiences to each other and that alone was a great experience.

The breakfast was just okay. They had waffles, sticky buns, apple pie, some fruit, hard boiled eggs, coffee, and juice available. I wish it was more of an actual breakfast because both myself and my boyfriend were still hungry and ended up going to Lake Geneva for brunch on Saturday, and on Sunday we didn't even bother having the breakfast there. If you do want to go to a good breakfast place, there's Egg Harbor in Lake Geneva. They had very good breakfast thats around a 10 minute drive from the B&B.

The only downside to this place was the bathroom. My boyfriend is 6'4" and i'm 5'10'' so we are taller people and the shower was very small and the sink was almost impossible for us to use. But it was okay. Everything else made up for it. The double whirlpool was amazing! Like I said, we are pretty tall people and we fit in the tub perfectly. We don't get to take baths because standard tubs are just too small.

We can't wait to go back, and hopefully next time we go back we go in the summer. It seems like it would be very nicely decorated in the summertime. If you are thinking about coming here, just stop thinking about it and make the reservation. You won't regret your decision.

Thank you for staying with us over the Valentine's Day weekend. We are so delighted you visited with us.

The journals make for a great read (we hope you left your own entry!) and the dollar game is always a challenge. It's funny..... when we check people into the suites and mention the dollar game, sometimes guests will say "sounds like fun, but not something we would be interested in".

However then they spot a dollar and before you know it the challenge is on! They comeinto the office saying "you won't believe it! We just spent the last few hours looking for money!! And we have one or two more clues left and we are determined to find them!"

If you are tall, the bathroom might be a bit of a challenge but we are glad you were able to enjoy the suite in spite of that, the lodge was built back in the 1920's and I don't think they height into consideration when it was built.....And of course we are partial to our breakfasts but we do try and share that it is an expanded continental breakfast, and not a full homestyle breakfast.

Our goal is to create breakfast foods that can be eaten in the dining room, or taken outside to be eaten on the patio, with minimal fuss for the guests. ( Eventually we will be able to see that patio again, and guests can dine out there. Can I share that for us that time can't come any too soon!!!!)

Egg Harbor does a great full breakfast don't they? I don't think you can go wrong with anything you order from the menu there!.

We are looking forward to having you visit us in the summer. Our grounds put on quite a show when they are in their summer glory.....In addition to the flowers, you will find hammocks to be lazy in; lawn chess to play, as well as gazebo's to sit and dream in!

See you in the summer!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your 30th Wedding Anniversary with us. We love love love it when people share their special days at Lazy Cloud.

I couldn't agree with you more on the homeyness of the Beach Comber Room. Our goal was to make you feel like you were at a lakeside cottage. I think we did a great job with pulling that off! It is one of our most popular rooms.

We're so glad you liked the journals and we do hope you added your own memories as well.....we look forward to you visiting with us again!

P.S. No need to wait till your 31st Anniversary, come visit us during the spring and summer when the flowers are in full bloom :)

Great cozy room with fireplace and an inroom whirlpool, romantic surroundings also outside in a lovely garden open to the guests, just right for a getaway, but internet shaky if you need it. Picnic in the evening was nice as ordered, the chocolate strawberries delightful. Breakfast local specialities, very nice. Enjoyable - would recommend especially for a couple weekend.

Thank you so much for your review.....We simply can't say it enough, we are always thrilled when someone takes time out of their schedule to post a review for us.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay, and we do agree that some of the rooms don't offer the best internet access all the time. We try playing with the router and such and sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't.

However it sounds like in spite of shaky internet service, you had a wonderful time and we are always glad to hear that!

Thank you again so much for your review, and we look forward to you visiting us again in the future.

While pricey for us it was perfect. Not what you think of when you think of a B&B. Privacy is the key and we got it. Pictures of the inside of the rooms are exactly what you see when you walk through your private entrance. Pictures of the outside do not do it justice. It was peaceful and beautiful and very well maintained. Staff was very attentive when asked, and so non intrusive into our little getaway, while we sat under the gazebo, swung in the hammocks, or just strolled around. Clean from top to bottom, and was more than we expected. Great coffee in the mornings!(a plus for me). Romantic!! (a plus for both of us). Can't wait to go back.

We love reviews like this! It reaffirms that we have created the perfect “romantic oasis” for our guests.

All of the Innkeepers working at Lazy Cloud will tell you that one of the things they are very mindful of is our guests comfort and privacy. Each Innkeeper will make themselves available to chat, share history of the Lodge, make recommendations for local shopping and dining, etc., if that is what a guest would like; however if guests simply want to stroll the grounds, relax in the hammocks or spend quiet time in one of the gazebos, they will be respectful and not intrude on your quiet time.

When guests check out and we send them back to reality, we like knowing that we are sending them back home relaxed, refreshed and ready to make plans to keep that romantic fire glowing. Sounds like we definitely hit the mark with your stay!

We are looking forward to your next stay!
