“Great Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

I took a family vacation to Door County in May for my mom's birthday. We stayed in one of the standalone houses, the Olson House. The house did not have the charm of the main house -- it's a ranch house probably from 1960s -- but it was still a great option for a larger group. The house had 2 bedrooms plus a sofa bed. The service in the main house was great, and the breakfasts were outstanding. Plus, the location right in town was very convenient -- it was nice to be able to walk to all the shops and restaurants. The inn was a bit of a splurge, but should I ever return to Door County, I would return for a stay here in one of the main rooms.

Picture the perfect inn, and that's the White Gull. Four-poster beds, feathery pillows, window boxes filled with flowers, comfy chairs, pretty wall paper, coffee and hot chocolate at your door each morning along with the newspaper, and a to-die-for complimentary breakfast. To the right of the inn is a charming town full of shops, across the street is the woods, and to the left is the lake. We just got home and already booked our visit for next summer.

Room Tip: Go hungry to breakfast.

Where does one begin? This is truly an "Inn" and the owners are truly hospitality folks and this philosophy is reflected in the staff, the ambiance, and the overall quality. Everything is done right.

The property sits at the edge of the Village of Fish Creek, nearly equidistant from the attractions of the Village and the Bay of Green Bay. Very convenient, but also sort of secluded. There is a main lodge with a wonderful restaurant and shop surrounded by renovated old time cottages/houses. The area is largely forested and the landscaping is beautiful.

We stayed in the Cliff House and the room was wonderfully decorated and appointed as well as immaculately clean. A very relaxing and elegant Door County/ New England feeling.

The staff is wonderful and very competent. When you check in, you receive a tour of your room and a complete run down of the amenities. Very helpful and friendly, you feel like a true guest.

Included with the room rate is whatever you want from the breakfast menu (some of which has been nationally recognized), coffee or tea and a newspaper of your choice delivered to your door step in the morning.

A side note: we registered on line and received a confirm the next morning. A day or two later, we received a "snail mail" letter with all the details of our reservation and additional information.

I thought this a nice touch in this day and age..

This combination of big and little things makes the White Gull Inn a must visit.

During a difficult family situation my husband suggested we get away for an overnight. We went to Fish Creek and stayed at The White Gull Inn. The room was so cozy and charming with a fireplace and balcony. We really felt like we were in another world. The peace, the tranquility and the restful ness . We relaxed and felt the the weight had been lifted off our shoulders. We plan to make this a tradition! Unbelievable breakfast included.

The White Gull Inn is a unique experience for Wisconsin. Its more like something one would find in New England: a quaint collection of white, vintage wood frame buildings on a quite stretch of road at the edge of a village. The main lodge has a cozy restaurant with a fireplace that reminds me of Inns in Vermont. The welcome at registration was very warm and friendly. Our room was tastefully decorated in vintage style and had a nice balcony. The breakfast was superb and included with the room rate. Don't pass up the hash.
That said, this isn't a 4 star facility, even though the price might suggest otherwise . The TV was the size of my laptop and about as old as the antique bed in the room. The bathroom was equivalent to that of a two or three star hotel.
If you want charm, character and a unique experience in Door County, then the While Gull Inn is the place. If you like more elegant surrounding, you'll be happier elsewhere.

Looking for a place to make the long drive to Door County worth it? The White Gull Inn is it! Furnishings in the room are adorable, including some antiques. Double jacuzzi tub is so relaxing and inviting to enjoy after a day of sighseeing. Inn staff, especially 'Pam', are very attentive. Inn is at a location where you can walk down to the water or into the town itself to shop and lunch. Worth every penny...so book it!

Found breakfast to be worth all the hype, but dinner was disappointing...

Room Tip: Stayed in the Dr. Welcker suite...french doors, gas fireplace, front porch furniture...on the first...

We stayed at the White Gull Inn because of it's outstanding reputation and also because of the great "off season" rates. We had a nice stay. The room was clean and decorated well with a comfortable bed and jacuzzi tub for two. Coffee & tea were delivered to our door each morning with the newspaper. Breakfast was included in our package, and I trust that nowhere in Door County will you find a greater place for breakfast dining...maybe even the entire state.
The room had plenty of room to sit, relax, and enjoy the fireplace and read. There was a nice wooded view from our attached deck. It is just a short walk away from the Lake and also Fish Creeks shopping district. Not many shops open in the winter, but those that were open were nice. There is usually a long wait for dining at the White Gull Inn, but as a guest, you get the bonus of the fast track line.
It is like joining in on a part of Door County history while staying at the While Gull Inn. Very tastefully accomplished!

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs, ask for ground floor rooms. Only queen beds, no king size. Seemed v...
