To paraphrase Emile Coue, the famous French psychotherapist, the Hillside Inn, every time my wife and I stay there, in every way, just keeps getting better and better.
As we drive around the bend of highway 42 and see the Inn and all its charm overlooking the water with its sweeping panorama of porch and decks we know we have arrived at what is surely the finest B&B in the US.
We can hardly wait to enter the warm and inviting but elegant, yet cozy, main floor with its splendid living room, ever so comfortable den and its formal (only in a spatial sense for casual attire is the Inn's dress code) dining room. Each time we visit the Inn we cannot help but marvel at the exquisite way in which it is decorated yet in such a way that comfort is never compromised nor forgotten.
Ah! But the best is yet to come. We are greeted by Clare and Jim Webb, clearly the pattern from which all Innkeepers should be cut as they personify warmth, friendliness, the desire to please and an attitude of always making sure one's creature comforts are more than satisfied.
After chatting with the Webbs we go upstairs to our room; truthfully, it is hardly a room. A palace is more like it for from the room decor to the guest controlled heating, air conditioning and fire place to the sumptuous bathroom and the bed, oh the bed where my wife says she sleeps better than she does at home, to the wonderful view of the lake, words cannot describe the feeling of "we're back at the Hillside Inn and all is well."
If you're looking for a restful vacation in an idyllic setting in an Inn whose rooms cannot be equalled from the standpoint of charm, comfort and convenience then call the Hillside Inn in Ephraim, Wi and hope they're not booked. You'll never regret the call and i speak from experience as my wife and I just came back from our sixth vacation at the Hillside since May of 2004.
