“Not much for kids over 6”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

We went there with our 8,7, & 6 year olds and while I think this is a great museum for young kids, there isn't much that will keep kids over the age of 6 engaged for very long. The little town area with the food and stores is fun for a little while, but having one child go around and collect all the money(demanding it from other children trying to play- where were the parents?) and hoard it, makes it hard to "buy" things and practice math skills. I guess we were hoping for more science and math exhibits and experiments and less pretend play.

“All our kids loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

We went with an 11 month old, 4 year old, and 6 year old. They all had a great time. There were plenty of hands on exhibits to keep them busy for hours, and the crafts area was great because the playdough mess stayed there :) They all loved the water play area the most. Affordably priced compared to other children's museums - would like to return again when we go back to Eau Claire.

“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

The Children's Museum is just another eye sore for downtown Eau Claire. It is nestled peacefully in between countless bars, a lack of parking, homeless people living on benches across the street, and a lot of suspicious activity. The outside of the building fits in well with the declining appearance of downtown. The inside of the building is no better. Bitty City Bank (now Bitty City Credit Union) gained a new sponsor which meant nothing more than a new coat of paint, a tacky blue rope light, and nothing new for children to play with. I do not think any of the exhibits have ever seen a new coat of paint unless a big name sponsor drops money. If a new coat of paint is all the sponsor money can afford, where is the rest of it going?! The carpets are so old and out of shape they look like they were made from fibers hand woven by cavemen. The children may be enjoying themselves, but all I can think about is where can I get an antibiotic prescription to prevent infection. The building appears to be cleaned by someone who doesn't care and the amount of dirty hands touching everything exceeds an appropriate level.

I had heard mixed reviews on the facility. After only a few visits, I can safely say that my family will not be returning.

“Kid friendly!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

The CMEC has many activities for kids of all ages. There is a special "fenced" area for toddlers. A grocery store allows for shopping for "food" and working at the cash register. There's a cafe. Kids can crawl through a tunnel which represents the human digestive system. There's an area for water play in the downstairs. Our grandchildren love going to the CMEC. It's great indoor entertainment. I will be going there next week with a grandson's preschool class.

“What a wonderful place to take small children!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

I wish we had something like this back in Australia. We took our three year old granddaughter to this awesome place, and she had a wonderful time. Entry was just $5, and for that, she was able to amuse herself for a full three hours without the least sign of boredom. She especially loved the water room downstairs. Every town should have a place like the Children's Museum of Eau Claire, for the brilliant entertainment value for children - and for the sanity of parents and grandparents alike!
