“Can't wait to go back to WEL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2009

I can't say enough about our recent stay this past holiday season at this resort. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from the lady at the front desk. She proceeded to direct us to our room and let us know the "happenings" going on at the resort during our stay. We were impressed with the scheduled activites ranging from a Ice Fishing show to a New Years Eve Party with Free Hor' Deorves and a DJ.

When we arrived at our lodge home we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place. It was spotless! In addition, the view was breathless. We overlooked Lynx lake and the serenity left us feeling as we were finally away from home.

The lodge homes were very spacious and even though we were on a getway with our family, there was still plenty of space for us all to have our own space..

The resort is in close proximity to the town of Eagle River and miles and miles of snowmobile trails. Our family loved being able to hop on the sled from right outside our door and drive all day. It was most enjoyable to come back to the toasty fireplace in our room or a dip in the pool/hot tub on property.

During our last night at the lodge, we attended the New Years party at the properties Boondocker's Lodge. With a number of children in our party we were hoping to stay away from some of the festivities that traditionally happen at other establishments on this day. We were impressed as to how family friendly the party was. Boondockers was nicely decorated, the free hor d'eorves were awesome, the music was appropriate for all ages, and most importantly it was kid friendly, The kids had a blast and loved that the DJ let all kids lead the New Year's countdown.

We look forward to coming back to Wild Eagle Lodge again in February for the Pond Hockey Championships and again over the summer.

A top notch resort with top notch staff!

I have stayed at this resort numerous times the past 3 years and as before the accomodations were very nice.
It was great to sit by the fireplace in our condo after an extremely cold day (-23) and a long snowmobile ride. I always feel right at home whether it is for 1 night or a full week.

The resort has everything a family with young children could hope for. The rooms are clean, neat, very spacious, with great views. There is a pool for toddlers and a nice sized regular pool. There is a play area, as well. The sandy beach was great. My kids played there for hours. We brought our boat and were able to park it at a slip right in front of our room.

But BEWARE, the resort books weddings. The music is so loud you won't get a wink of sleep until all is over. I would never stay there again if they were having a wedding that weekend.

I told the front desk staff when we checked out that we were very unhappy with our Saturday night stay because we weren't able to sleep and it also ruined our Sunday because everyone was so tired. They didn't apologize, in fact they didn't say one word at all. I told them that in all fairness to the guests this should be disclosed at booking. Still, not one word of response. Another guest told us eveyone was complaining and one of the staff people told them they had 13 more weddings booked. Other than that, I loved the resort and would definately go there again. I'll just check to make sure there isn't a wedding. And, I hope when we go back they have hired some staff that have a clue how to handle issues like this.

  • Liked — There is so much to do with young children
  • Disliked — The wedding they booked there the same weekend we stayed. The music was so loud that no one slept at all. Also the fact that the staff did not handle our complaint at all.

July 08 was the third year in a row that we've been up to the Northwoods. The first year we stayed in a private rental home on Otter Lake. It was just ok and it had one long steep hill to get down to the water. The second year we stayed in one of the cabins on Cranberry Island in Cranberry Lake. Staying on the island appealed to us as there would be little highway noise and there wasn't. But the cabins are dated. Verging on rustic by todays standards. Clean and cheap but 1950s decor and appliances..

This past July we stayed at the Widl Eagle Lodge and we won't stay any where else now.. It is perfectly located on Duck/Lynx Lakes, the grounds are immaculate and the units are pristine. All modern decor and appliances and very very comfortable. No "goat hill" to the water either. The place is a mecca for folks traveling with kids as there are activities galore! At the same time it's perfect for the fishermen (like us). Boondockers Lounge offers above average pub food and we saw a couple bands that rocked the joint on a few evenings. The ENTIRE staff go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need too. Nicest bunch of folks we've met up there. Caught fish (lots) right off the piers and some nice ones too! They offer boat rentals as well rowboats to pontoons and every morning early the staff came to our boat and swept up, check to see if gas was needed etc.. Service with a smile! I cannot recommend the Wild Eagle enough. Location, Staff, Grounds, Amenities.. It has it all! We're booked for 09 already!

Wow! My family and I stayed at the Wild Eagle Resort in July 2008. The property has to be the largest and most well kept resort on the chain of lakes. We rented a 3 bedroom which overlooked beautiful Duck Lake and was also close to the beach and docks. The unit was very nice and clean. They provided us also with a grill on our patio that really came in handy. There is no daily maid service which was not a problem for us. The kitchen is fully stocked although more dish towels would have been appreciated. There is a restaurant/bar called Boondockers that had nightly entertainment, which was fun. The tennis courts were beautiful. They also rent pontoon boats and fishing boats, but we did not use this service. The grounds are very well maintained and very beautiful with a lovely biking path around the resort. I would recommend this resort for a beautiful Wisconsin vacation.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the resort. We had reserved a 1 bedroom condo. Upon entering the place it had a foul smell. We opened the windows and went to town. After 4 hours the smell of what I now identified as curry was still thick in the air. I called the front desk and the lady was helpful coming over to smell our place. She agreed it was bad and changed us to a 2bedroom place. It was great. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub on a rainy day and the lake on a sunny day. Nothing like the North woods to calm you down. There was a wedding on Sat while we were at the resort and we heard music at night, but not too bad. Go to the Riverstone restuarant in town, great food and wine. Great bike ride along the woods near Boulder Junction with a general store along the way for homemade ice cream.

  • Liked — Great furniture with north woods theme and great view of the lake
  • Disliked — No housekeeping included and not enough supplies

Stayed at this place 3 times in the past.....property development/sales is their focus these days...service is not. As the other reviewer noted they are pretty cheap when it comes to the details like soap, towels, housekeeping...and if you need to cancel ( even 1 day after you make the reservation and 3 months in advance) be prepared to be docked $50. High priced and with todays gas prices, I'd say check out the Dell's area in Wisconsin for competitive prices, services, amenities.....and save lots in travel time and gas cost. Wild Eagle needs to wake up and smell the coffee...people will not pay these prices and then be nickel and dimed to death for 'extras'. I had a chance to rebook, but declined after learning about the $50 service fee. They have lost a repeat customer. We found a great place in the Dells, with lots to offer ...on a lake, restaurants, water parks, inground pool, golf course...something for everyone and at about $75 less a day.

  • Liked — Property is situated on a nice piece of real estate
  • Disliked — vacation time share/home ownership focus
