“Great Service. Exquisite hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here during the summer for a wedding. Right from the start I felt welcome and at home. Colleen checked me in and she was very quick and super friendly. We didn't show up until late and she was already at the front desk when we walked in; ready to go. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was awesome! Eggs, Pancakes & Bacon were my favorite! They also had really good cinnamon rolls! I would highly suggest this hotel for your wedding party or anyone looking for a high quality room & hotel with all the amenities; right off the interstate! Super close to Madison!

This is our new stopping point between Minneapolis and Toledo. The staff is friendlier than anywhere we've been, the room was clean and the breakfast was good, the lady that brings in her own baked goods is a real blessing, and a great baker and candy maker, looking forward to our next stop. Thank You.

Clean room, small swimming pool area , not enough tables and chairs with very small dining area and few choices of breakfast meal. Single and slow elevator. This is not a typical Holiday inn express...short handed by far. The parking area smells like a barnyard nothing exciting within the surrounding area. Would rather stay at another hotel across the highway.

Dear ChicagoWelch,

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts and concerns. I am so glad you liked your room accommodations. I am sorry you were not satisfied with our breakfast options and the location of our dining area. I am also sorry for the unusual smell of our parking lot. We work very hard to ensure our facilities and guest services are superior and strive to be the best hotel around. Reserved a King size whirlpool suite and got room 127 which has a king size bed and whirlpool but not a "sofa in a separate seating area" as described on their website. Room is on the other side of the stairwell and is as noisy as the people running up and down the stairs. Room decor was comfortable but dated. Bathroom area is small, exhaust fan noisy but sink/tub drained fast. Pool was closed but that wasn't stated on their website. Staff was nice but not friendly except the lady who worked in the breakfast area who was so friendly her work suffered - food items were limited or ran out. Internet access was not reliable. BTW, I sent an e-mail to guest relations and got a "form e-mail" in reply with a Case# but no response from the DeForest management. Definitely would not stay here again - the Holiday Inn Express' in Madison are much nicer.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. After our correspondence via email we have adjusted our website to be more precise. Our Suites consist of either a Whirlpool or a Sofa sleeper, again we apologize for the misunderstanding. Our pool is currently open as the temporary maintenance issue has been resolved.

My husband travels weekly for work. I joined him this time for a quick trip. After driving 11 hours, I could have slept in a gravel pit. Instead, we ended up at his favorite chain, HI. I was happy with the room. It had a clean bed and bathroom. That is all I needed last night. Today, I can explain further why I gave it a four not a five. The room was equiped with all the Ammenities the H I chain usually has. The bathroom was very small. The sink is outside the bathroom which is not usual for this type of hotel. The sink and counter were postage stamp small. My husband stated this is too unusual for this type hotel. Bed was comfortable, (but as I said I was tired!) Room is nice and clean, bathroom clean. Breakfast was fine. The usual H.I. Things with a good variety.

Room Tip: Husband upgraded for five dollars more to a room with a couch. If you have to give up the bigger bat...

This hotel is in a good location if you want to stay near Madison but don't want to pay higher Madison prices. It is an IDEAL hotel if you are driving from the Twin Cities to Chicago and want to stay overnight in Madison (like if you leave Friday night after work and want to drive part way to Chicago....you can stay here and then its only about a 3 hour drive the next morning).
The prices here are generally one level lower than the same class hotels in Madison. It is just off the highway at the DeForest exit so you don't even have to go into Madison and can get back on the highway to finish your trip easily.
There are quite a few fast food places at this exit, so there's a good variety to choose from for quick meals.
The hotel itself is a bit smaller than most Holiday Inn Expresses and it is quite a bit older than most of the new ones. Because of this, some of the areas look a little dated and the rooms are significantly smaller than other Holiday Inn Expresses. An example of this is that the sink area is immediately inside the entry door....a bit awkward.
The bathroom was a little cramped as well but everything worked well and the amenities are great smelling, albeit a bit small.
Beds were comfortable and the linens felt very fine. Plenty of pillows with multiple comfort levels.
The free breakfast was very good (as always...LOVE those warm cinnamon rolls!!!!).
There was a larger than normal pool for this class hotel with a nice hot tub. They were good but looked a little dated.
The parking was a bit cramped and the one lot nearest the door was small and didn't have enough spaces to fit all the cars. So most have to park a bit farther away. Not a problem but on our stay it was raining a lot and we got wet on the walk to the door.
Because it is an older hotel the halls and elevator halls were smallish. It is so small in fact that it is hard to get the luggage cart into the elevator hallway and actually on the one small elevator. The cart is nice and large but it barely fits in the elevator with more than two people. (Pick a first floor room to avoid this!)
The staff person was very, very friendly and pleasant.
The wifi was free and worked okay with some intermittant drop outs. Not a big deal but a little annoying.
Overall, a decent place that would be better if it were a bit larger and newer. But well worth it considering the good location and pretty high 'traveler class' standards.

Room Tip: Pick a first floor room and you won't have to deal with the small cramped elevator (which barely...

We stayed at this hotel for one night while traveling from Rapid City. Hotel is conveniently located right off the freeway for travelers. Room was very clean and comfortable for our stay. I was disappointed when I arrived and no one was at the front desk. Apparently, they only had one person working that night and she was running all over the hotel. I had to wait 10 minutes to get check-in and I had reservations. In addition, I used a rewards night and was charged for my room as well. I am still trying to get a refund for my stay, in points or the money. I guess this was due to them only having one person working that night.
