My son was married in Milwaukee last week, and recommended Sheridan House and Cafe to me and the parents of his bride-to-be. We eventually booked a number of rooms at this small hotel, and all members of our party were exceptionally well pleased with reception, rooms, and meals. An ample breakfast was included in the price of our rooms, which ranged between $140-175 per night.
The hotel is situated on the border of a residential area and is a five minute walk from Lake Michigan. Parks abound and the City of Milwaukee can be reached by car in 20 minutes. The airport is about a 15 minute drive. The hotel has a main building and a lower (one story) extension, with a courtyard in between. There is an exercise room and of course, a restaurant. Parking is right across the street and highly accessible . . . and free.
My wife, son, his friend and I were among the first of our party to arrive, and were greeted by Ms. Jane Schilz, the Proprietor, who proudly showed us our rooms and offered us a free drink. We were very pleased to find clean and very attractive lodgings, each named for a wine region (Rioja, for example) and decorated accordingly. Beds are European style, very comfortable and with fine linen sheets and comfy pillows. Bathrooms are spacious and we all agreed that the showers at the Sheridan House are the #1 best we have ever experienced.
Rooms contain flat screen television sets, safes for personal items, hair dryers, and the usual amenities one would expect to find at a four star hotel. The rooms were quiet and curtains effectively eliminated an unwanted early wake-up. My room sported a jacuzzi which I personally enjoyed on one occasion.
The hotel provides six choices of breakfast for travelers, and each day brings the menu for each room to use as a voucher. Coffee and pastries are provided in the hallway each morning for those who may not want a big meal, or who (like me) just like to eat.
The interior of the hotel itself is tastefully designed and stylish. Lamp fixtures are varied and interesting, and many had hand-painted designs on their sconces. Small touches and decor make the hotel a very special place. There is a bridal suite that I did not see.
We only ate breakfasts at the Sheridan, and they were ample and well prepared. The coffee was top flight and our friendly servers were not stingy with it. Restaurant staff tolerated our sometimes loud wedding party (approaching 15 people) very politely as did some of the cafe "regulars," all of whom seemed to value the service Sheridan House provides them. Those in my party truly felt at home. By the way, luncheon and dinner offerings looked interesting and were priced reasonably. And yes, there is a bar that features fine wine selections.
I have absolutely -no- complaints about Sheridan House and Cafe, and will stay there any time I travel to Milwaukee. The only suggestion I would make is that more drawer space be created in certain rooms. My wife and I found it difficult to find storage for the clothing we brought along: an extremely small issue given the very high quality of this hotel.
I am pleased to recommend this gem of a hotel to you, and think it is a very top choice for travelers to Milwaukee.
