“Gastropub-like with Great Local Brews”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

The food, ambiance, and local beer offerings were fantastic! My wife and I were looking for an off-the-beat-path, freeway food fare alternative to dine at and were fortunate to stumble across this great establishment. During our first visit (we came back the following week it was so good) we ate the cheese curds, cranberry chicken sandwich, and a HUGE burger topped with bacon, a fried egg, haystack onions, cheese, and other tasty goodness. I only wish it also had peanut butter on it. We feasted on their Friday Fish Fry on our second stop. The local brewery, Sand Creek, has about 10 taps available including a Belgium Ale, Scottish Ale, Porter, Stout, IPA, three fruity hard ciders, and a few others. Bathrooms were clean and overall the place was kept clean.

The only gross part I noticed is that on my way to the bathroom, with the back dining room being half full with customers...there was a blonde waitress at the waitress stand going deep for some boogie patrol with a napkin. I totally busted her in the act and she was in plain view..and didn't stop when she saw me! She wasn't just wiping her nose, she had the whole napkin around her finger and was doing the turbo dig to clear her nostrils. I only hope she washed her hands after the fact but it was super gross to encounter to say the least. Maybe some better discretion like doing such things in the bathroom should be encouraged of the staff. Blech...

“Great atmosphere!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Great selection of local beers. Food has been good every time we go there and really like that the old building has been revitalized and not been remodeled to look new!

“Great Lunch Stop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

We were traveling to the Twin Cities and needed a place to do lunch. We got off Interstate 94 at Black River Falls and drove to the downtown area and found this wonderful bar & grill. As soon as we opened the door, we saw the chalkboard that stated a boy from England and a girl from
Wisconsin... The Traveler's Tale! We met the boy from England, who described his draft beers and offered some samples. We ordered a couple of pints and two sandwiches with the haystack as our side. The pints were great, the sandwiches delicious, and haystacks outstanding. The bartender was our server and the service was five star!
We highly recommend the Travelers Tale as the best in BLR.

“Great food and drink ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Just have to say what a great place for drinks and food with friends. The cheese curds were some of the best I've ever had. Very light breading done by hand also the haystack onions were awesome the seasoning was original and great. As for drinks they carry all the brews from the local Sand Creek brewery. Tried three different brews all were great. Main meal was also well put together.

“VERY NICE little spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

This place on the corner in downtown Black River Falls has an awesome atmosphere and GOOD food. Had a full rack of BBQ ribs and they were fall off the bone tender. They also have quite the selection of Sand Creek Brews on tap which are fun to try all the different kinds. Highly recommend this place.
