We've only lived in Baraboo for 3 years, but have heard from people around town that "Quindt's is the best!!". We stopped by a couple of years ago to try them out, but since the bar is right as you walk in, were deterred by the thick wall of smoke we would have had to walk through to get to the "no smoking" dining section. (I put that in quotes because there was no full barrier between the bar and dining room; just a 3/4 wall that didn't go completely end-to-end.)
Now that Wisconsin's smoking ban is in effect, we thought it would be a good time to try again, to see what everyone raved about.
Apparently you have to be a life-long resident to be accepted. We were greated with no extra warmth and sat in the back corner of the room. Our waitress was slow, unfriendly and when she asked if we needed anything, was halfway across the room before we could answer "some steak sauce please?"
The food was average - we've had worse but we've also had better. The atmosphere is non-existant; nothing special about the decor except that maybe it hasn't changed in 30 years.
All in all a very disappointing visit and we won't be going back or recommending it.
