International Crane Foundation is definitely worth a visit. The information on the birds and their habitats is interesting, and the birds are beautiful.

“Outstanding Natural Family Attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

The ICF is truly the world center for crane study - the name is no hype. Every variety of crane species existent in the world is on view here. Too many people come to the Dells/Baraboo area and only see the garish amusement park type attractions. I strongly recommend bringing kids here - it is very cool to see their fascination getting up close with these large graceful birds. Also, it is a peaceful outdoor setting with friendly and helpful staff - decompress from high-stress vacationing with this terrific place. Do not be put-off with the fact that it will also be "educational"!

“Beautiful, peaceful and educational.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

I love visiting the International Crane Foundation. Beautiful pathways lead you to some of the most striking birds in the world, from all over the world. The staff is very helpful and friendly. A visit here educates you as to the status of cranes worldwide. The beauty of these magnificent birds is awesome. The gift shop has crane and bird related items that are educational as well as lovely. I love the pavilion where the whopping cranes are kept in a very natural setting, and where you have great opportunities to photograph these fantastic birds.

“August was too hot for visiting.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

It was an interesting place, but I was not overly impressed. It was hard to find, and a very hot day while we were there. It is mostly in the sun - and some of the birds inclosures were very over-grown, but maybe the birds appreciate this. Just don't go on a hot day.

“Cranes Are Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is a must-see stop when you visit Baraboo or the Wisconsin Dells area. ICF was founded forty years ago by two ornithologists, one a Baraboo native, with a love of the world's largest, and in some cases, rarest birds. ICF has become the world's leading advocate for cranes which are endangered on several continents. For a nominal fee (I can't remember the amount because I'm already a member), you can access the grounds and exhibits through the ICF visitor center. All the world's crane species, fifteen I think, are represented in the exhibit area, with special attention given to the whooping cranes. Several nature trails are worth taking for the diverse prairie plants and trees, and there's a lovely gift shop with crane-related items.
