“A vivid reminder of the Cold War.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

For anyone who lived through the Cold War, the “bunker” is a must see. This huge facility was built under the Greenbrier Resort, but unlike the hotel there is absolutely nothing luxurious about the bunker.

It is basic standard military issue type of setup, just on a huge scale. Just like the home fallout shelters many people built during the late 1950’s.

The government built it under the resort, but the Greenbrier resort always maintained ownership for security reasons. You need to do the tour to learn all about the history of this unique facility.

The tour staff was very knowledgeable about the history of it, and also had many anecdotes about it and its relationship with the local residents.

This is cold war history lover’s dream place.

“Well worth the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2014

The greenbrier is a very nice hotel with a hidden secret(well until 1992). A huge bunker lies underneath the hotel. It was built as a means for congress to use as a fallout shelter in the event of a nuclear attack. The tour itself lasts about 90 minutes and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative. Make sure to leave your camera and cell phone in the car or you will have to check them at the desk before the tour begins.

“The Bunker Tour is Unique and Educational.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

A very learned woman who was our guide set a perfect tone for the bunker tour. She knew every detail, answered every question. I had mistakenly thought this is where the president would go, but it was large enough to house THE CONGRESS. Seeing the cafeteria, the huge security doors, the assembly hall where the group as a whole would have met was highly educational. At the same time, there was a bit of an undertone that untold millions were poured into this, and some of it seemed questionable. This is a unique facility, and we would recommend the tour.
