Beautiful grounds, top-notch service, elegant decor and superb accommodations. There is something for everyone at this resort. The casino is wonderful but don't forget to bring a suit jacket for after 7 pm. The artisans in the Art Colony are incredibly friendly and talented. I highly recommend stopping by Gibson's and talking to the painter/jewelry maker. She's a gem!

We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for pointing out The Greenbrier's unique Art Colony Shops in your review! The shops offer items skillfully crafted by local artisans as well as a fascinating glass blowing demonstration. We appreciate that you recognized our amazing staff and their incredible efforts in maintaining both our buildings and grounds. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to The Greenbrier!

This is the resort by which all others should be measured. I am afraid that it has slipped somewhat compared to some others on the east coast. It is a very large, beautiful resort which is immaculately clean. The staff is friendly and for the most part courteous and competent. The rooms were very clean comfortable and updated. The food was exceptional and priced accordingly. The fitness center was disappointing but one gets a good workout just going to it since it is a brisk walk down the hill. The indoor pool is an interesting old pool but not very functional by modern standards for recreation at a public hotel. Most of the numerous activities are priced too high considering the already high price for the stay. The bunker tour is a must but again, overpriced. In summary, this is a very nice place to stay but somewhat expensive overall.

Room Tip: Get updated room.

We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay! The Greenbrier is a luxury resort, and we pride ourselves on offering an unparalleled range of amenities and activities as well as exceptional customer service throughout our 10,000-acre property. Enjoying this world-class experience does come at a cost, and so we do our best to publish all rates, fees, gratuities and menus on our website so that there are no surprises upon arrival. We are honored that you recommend touring The Bunker! The entire West Virginia Wing was originally added to the property in the 1950s to conceal the simultaneous construction beneath it of The Bunker, a top secret U.S. government fallout shelter that is now open for tours. We look forward to your next visit!

We had sky-high expectations going into our stay at the Greenbrier, with its storied history, and it surpassed every single one. I'd heard a lot of "dissing" of Dorothy Draper and her colorfully dramatic décor. Well, the dissers should get with it. Know that you are going to a splashy southern resort where flowers, florals, and vibrant colors rhapturously reign supreme. If you are looking for minimalism, make reservations elsewhere. We loved the dramatic entryway, the bar with the 600 pound chandelier from "Gone With the Wind," and most especially, the Trellis Room, where we took advantage of the delicious complimentary coffee in the morning. My husband golfed, and I came upon a streamside "Meditation Walk" which was one of the high points for me. The meals in the Main Dining Room (you're lucky if Harlan is your water) and Prime 44 West (namesake Jerry West) were expensive, but well worth it for the care, deliciousness, and presentation. We liked staying in the central part of the hotel and were on the second floor. It was so convenient. You could get lost in the place. We also recommend the Bunker Tour. I'm no longer green with envy; I've stayed there, and my husband and I look upon it as a luxury experience which was truly worth it.

Room Tip: Lower floor; central location

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent visit. The Greenbrier has enjoyed a 66-year relationship with Dorothy Draper & Company, and her legendary style of vibrant colors, floral patterns and bold contrasts is on display around every corner! We are so happy to hear that you were able to enjoy our iconic Main Dining Room (celebrating 100 years), Prime 44 West (a fine dining steakhouse honoring NBA legend Jerry West). We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit!

Our family stayed at the Greenbrier this weekend and had a wonderful experience! There are many activities that the Greenbrier offers- you don't even have to leave the resort! We enjoyed the following:
Horseback riding- Karl was a fantastic guide!
Indoor Pool
Bowling- so fun!
Theater- Frozen!
Cooking demonstrations- wow... I loved this and spent way too much money in the Greenbrier Gourmet on the gadgets that the demonstrator used!
Glass blowing demonstration- my son won a locally crafted piece of glass!
Hiking

We have two children, ages 8 and 11- what a wonderful resort to spend some family time at! The food was great and the staff is very kind and helpful.
Close buy, there is a small quaint town called Lewisburg. I encourage you to visit the antique shops and the restaurant Food and Friends! What a great home cooked food!

Overall, this trip was exciting and we were pleased with the family friendly activities that the Greenbrier offers!

We just visited the Greenbrier-about a week ago. The experience was fabulous from start to end. The service was just top! From the moment the doors open you are welcomed like royalty. The champagne, the friendly staff, the gorgeous surroundings all come together to suspend you in time...The room was very spacious but I did not care for its decor-the furniture could be a bit more plush. However, the food was excellent in every restaurant and as I mentioned, the service was simply exceptional everywhere. We enjoyed the many activities available; really, this place offers so many things to do that one weekend was not nearly long enough. I am a tennis player and enjoyed the tennis center and received a very fun and professional hour of tennis lesson. We also did the Bunker tour. A must do! In addition, the hotel has plenty of indoor exercise facilities and other things like a fantastic pool, a nice bowling alley, and free movies! There is also great shopping and if the weather had been better, we would have gone horse riding or to the mud adventures in the jeeps. We will be back for more!
My only disappointment was with the spa hours. The main reason we decided to go to the Greenbrier on a whim was to rejuvenate in the old sulphur baths. What a disappointment when we found out that the last bath could only be taken by 4:30 pm as the spa closed at 5! The staff was friendly and nice, but the hours are just.....They explained to me that they will have extended hours in the new schedule but I believe that will be only until 6 pm. Really not long enough if the purpose of ones' trip is the spa, the famous spa! I say to management, take advantage of the history, quality of the spa and baths and offer longer hours to your visitors. Even if services are not available, at least the sauna and steam rooms should be open to those of us who drive far just to soothe our aching muscles.

The usual accolades do not apply here. Everything, staff, service, food and cuisine, accommodations, décor and history, reach for words that amaze and are just inadequate. We
took a step back in history to a place where the American crème-de-crème sojourned and we
tasted the best our country could offer today. Yes, the place may be a bit pricy for some, but to do
this once in a lifetime and to be pampered in the style of a Carnegie or a famous movie star, or
a former king of England is worth saving a few dollars for. Main Dining Room was superb for dinner and breakfast and for its Four O'clock afternoon complimentary tea and circumstance was
something one would expect in a European Royal Court. PRIME 44 restaurant named after Jerry
West of the Lakers was superb and DRAPER restaurant named after the fabulous decorator Dorothy, was a place for a delicious meal that included unmatched service. The FORUM is a must for those who like Italian food. (Try their Margarita pizza, you will be surprised). A great
surprise was the culinary demos by Carol Mann Herrick; one did not need to go to Bobby Fley to
delight one's taste buds. (How in the world did Greenbrier find these talented people?) We recommend the Superior (read SPACIOUS) rooms, (ours was 5174), the SPA definitely, the pool, and the boutique shops. This is surely a place one must visit at least once in a lifetime.

Room Tip: West Virginia Wing is great, so are the Superior room on the 5th floor.

If you like to be pampered and have great service, this is the place to visit. Yes, it is pricey but you get what you pay for. They do not overlook the smallest detail. Love the southern charm and courtesy. Love that you have to dress for dinner and the casino. Reminds me of the resort in the movie "Dirty Dancing" when families would go to resort for the summer.

We are so glad to hear that it was definitely worth visiting!! Thank you for pointing out that we do have a dress code in the evenings as part of our 235-year history. Gentlemen are asked to wear a jacket and tie in the Main Dining Room for dinner and a jacket in the Casino Club after 7:00pm. Casual dining venues as well as room service are available for those that prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Greenbrier!
