“Awe Inspiring”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

The website does a great job of explaining and showcasing the resort. You think the Greenbrier is a jewel. But pictures and works cannot describe when you drive up and say WOW!! The buildings, rooms are beautiful beyond compare. The staff is gracious and hospitable. We not only had a rich experience, we had fun. I grew up in WV. The Greenbrier and staff make WV proud. There is no place like home and this is it.

Room Tip: Let the reservations staff assist you. The will get you your desires

This resort was definitely a five star property, with prices to match. Perfect service and incredible food made for a perfect weekend for my group. There are many activities to take part in, and, even in the winter snow, our schedule was full. My only complaint was that there was a charge for alcohol in the Casino for active gambling participants. I'd definitely sponsor an exclusive group here again.

The Greenbrier Resort is visit that I wish everyone could experience. The staff is outstanding. The décor of the hotel is beautiful and purposely designed to reflect an earlier era. The food is beautifully served; although, the meat proportions are far larger than necessary. It was fun to actually see people dressed for dinner every night in the main dining room. I am so tired of seeing everyone in jeans wherever I go. There are several restaurants within the hotel. The casino is well done and thankfully NON SMOKING. I would definitely return again. You go to the Greenbrier to enjoy the Greenbrier. You won't find shopping or other entertainment outside of this rural resort. There is a very cute, old fashioned functioning train station across the road from the entrance to the Greenbrier which will take you back in time.

Room Tip: Travel by train directly to the Greenbrier and take a cab across the road and up the hill to the hot...

I had visited the Greenbrier for a conference a few years ago, and had been waiting for a chance to take the family there. The lodging is expensive, but we were able to live like the other half for a couple of nights. The decor is outstanding and takes you back to a different time. The service was great, as everyone we ran into treated us like royalty. We ate most meals at the golf pro shop, at the cafe at the wonderful outdoor pool or in the less expensive dining options in the hotel. We had a great time wandering the main building and the property. The indoor pool is fabulous. We played golf on the Old White and Greenbrier courses, and did the bunker tour. The price tag for this was very high, but if you can afford a short visit, it's great to experience the wonderful luxury and to live like royalty for a couple of days.

We are so happy to hear that The Greenbrier far exceeded your expectations! We have been welcoming guests since 1778 and have had 236 years of experience in providing exceptional customer service. The Greenbrier has been honored to host many dignitaries and royal families over the years, but as you alluded to our goal is to make everyone feel like royalty because to us every guest is royalty. At The Greenbrier we still live by, “ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen”. We look forward to serving you and your family for years to come!

This place is so reminiscent of a by gone time but remains affordable to the super rich and average person. Carlton Varney overloads your senses in a positive way with the decor. Price wise you can go a expensive or as realistic as you want. This place offers so much sometimes it's nice just to sit back and enjoy the facilities amenities without the splurge on extras. Don't get me wrong...the shopping, restaurants, tours, exercises classes, spa, and outdoor activities are fab and make the experience even better! Remember to bring your fancy pants (and ladies don't let your husbands/partners doubt you on their dress code! My husband learned the hard way when he was asked to go and put on a coat to eat dinner in the main dining room). They made our anniversary lovely with custom menus and deserts. Highly recommend pre dinner drinks in the lobby bar under the new Gone With the Wind chandelier procured from Debbie Reynolds surrounded by deep wood, sipping a martini. Catch the new Greenbrier Waltz at 10pm on the weekend with complimentary champagne toast in the out of this world casino. This place is perfect for any season and any occasion!

Thank you for highlighting that Carleton Varney; one of America's best known interior designers and the president/owner of Dorothy Draper & Company continues the grand style of Dorothy Draper. Dorothy Draper was a doyenne of interior design in the United States from the 1920's to the 1960's. The Varney design philosophy stresses…"the use of bright colors and the rejection of all that is impractical, uncomfortable and drab". In embracing this practice, he continues the tradition of Dorothy Draper, by being associated with the adventurous use of vibrant colors, floral patterns and bold contrasts. Yes, we do have a dress code in the evenings as part of our 236-year history. Gentlemen are asked to wear a jacket and tie in the Main Dining Room for dinner and a jacket in the Casino Club after 7:00pm. Casual dining venues as well as room service are available for those that prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. The Greenbrier is proud of the unparalleled ranges of amenities and activities available for guests. With over 55+ activities ranging from falconry and fly-fishing to spa treatments and swimming, there is something for everyone to enjoy at The Greenbrier. Thank you again for your gracious review and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Greenbrier!

From the welcome we received at the main entrance to the reception at the check-in desk, we knew that this is an elegant hotel. The rooms are nicely furnished and immaculate. The service is superb. The buffet breakfast in the elegant main dining room is wonderful. A truly grand hotel of yesteryear brought into the twenty-first century.
