“Wonderful Service!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

From the minute you drive up to the entrance they are taking care of you. Before I could grab my purse from the backseat, they already had my door open. After checking in they immediately deliver the bags to your room. The activities desk booked all our kids camp and dinner reservations with ease. The concierge booked our in room babysitter for our adult dinners out. Everything was simple and easy. At the pool, they greet you and set up your pool chairs for the day. The afternoon tea is fantastic. Finally, the room was very clean and the housekeeping is great!! If your looking for pampering and great service this is the place to go!!

Room Tip: The junior suites are very spacious.

The Greenbrier is a throw back to old world elegance. The property was beautiful, food delicioius and activities bountiful. While 1/2 of our group went golfing, the other 1/2 went to the spa. The spa services were top notch and even had special services dedicated to young spa goers. Definitely bring a lot of $ since things were not cheap.

The food was good and the staff is excellent as in every other area at the Greenbrier. A little pricey but everything at the Greenbrier is pricey. To me it was worth the money.

The Greenbrier is a place where everyone who works there has manners and knows how to interact with the public. Everything about the resort is beautiful. From the room to the gardens to the shops, casino and restaurants. I took a falconry lesson (so fun) and did skeet shooting (just as much fun). My husband golfed. My parents use to go to the Greenbrier every year back in the 1960s. Now I know why. You'll blow the budget but it is worth it.

Room Tip: We stayed in the North end room 1110.

We used one of the rooms for a business conference. It was very neat to look at and clean. The hotel is very old and interesting to say the least. The staff were very friendly and professional. It's funny because it really reminds you of the movie 'The Shining' with Jack Nicholson. Very beautiful place. A lot of history. Not for those with a light wallet though.

Nestled in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, The Greenbrier stands as a beacon welcoming travelers from around the world. The grandeaur cannot be described, but must be experienced first hand to truely appreciate this wonderful hotel. This was our first visit, and we were slightly intimidated at the prospect of staying in this luxureous facility, but everyone made us feel so very welcome, we immediately felt "at home". We loved every moment of our stay. Breakfast in the Grand Dinning Room was amazing. We had supper at Drappers and it also lived up to the Greenbrier standard. The Bunker Tour was amazing. Our request for a roll away bed was honored immediately. And you simply must try a sea salt carmel at the Candy Store. If you have the opportunity, then GO!!!

A beautiful hotel with a wonderful history. Staff are impeccable, rooms are clean and nicely decorated, and restaurants are varied.

Rooms are small but comfortable. Housekeeping starts from 8am so if you're not an early bird, put your note on the door the night prior! Turndown service is offered each night, which means towels are also refreshed twice a day.

Restaurants are great but expensive. Each one automatically adds a 20% gratuity to your bill. Forum has nice, casual Italian, however our waiter did tell us that the menu was basically still a draft and that nothing had been perfected except spaghetti and meatballs and veal parmigiana. Plus he was happy to declare he couldn't pronounce the menu items. Might need some more training, Omar! We took his advice on our first night there. The second time we ate there we ordered something different and were satisfied with the meals.

The steakhouse is phenomenal. Get the lobster mashed potato, and of course, the steak. Good portion sizes and also a great wine list.

There are a lot of activities to choose from (both free and at cost). Here are my recommendations:

Free:
Swimming pool
Fishing (bring your own rods if you can)
Lawn bowls/croquet
Afternoon tea
Cinema
Bowling

Cost something:
Can-am/ATV rentals through mountain ($250+)
Falconry ($60+)
Jeep mountain tour ($250+)
Tennis lesson ($60+)
Clay shooting
Whitewater rafting

Nothing is cheap here. Spa is great but expensive - over $100 for a manicure, at least $250 for a massage. Also the nail polish is herbal so takes nearly an hour to dry. Something that would be good to know in advance!

You need a jacket for dining in many restaurants or for casino. Remember to bring one. Otherwise there are a few available for rent. Not guaranteed to get your size though.

Do go to afternoon tea. It's free and very good. The casino is fun. The bunker tour is very informative (although a little too long at 90 minutes). Don't expect to see much because the space is now rented to a third party for storage. But the commentary is good all the same. I wasn't that excited to stand outside in the rain for five minutes to hear that "this was once a driveway but no one knew the bunker door was here..." Not sure why it was necessary to do that from outside in the rain.

Children would enjoy this resort and there are lots of activities for them to do. (Need to be over three years old).

The hotel is a nice way to spoil yourself. Do get room service... The set up is like nothing else you will ever see. Amazing! Do not come if you do not want to spend a small fortune!

Not sure the hotel is big on the environment... Towels are changed twice daily - even if hanging up. There is also a non biodegradable sticker placed on the toilet paper (for branding) that would get flushed by most people and end up in our water ways.

Oh, and do go for a fitness class. The guy is great.. You will get value for money in his class!
