“Top Notch as Always”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

Stayed at the Greenbrier 1/6-1/8/12 for the wife's birthday weekend along with her parents and our 2 daughters. Just like last year, once you enter the parking lot of the Greenbrier you experience 1st class service! We were given a 2br suite on the 3rd floor that was second to none...thanks Casino host!
We ate the first night at Draper's and I would definatley recommend the shrimp w/ grits.
Second night was at Prime 44 and everything there is top notch. Breakfast each morning in the main dining room, excellent variety.
Golf course was beautiful as we were lucky to have a 55 degree day.
Casino was gracious at times as I only play a table game...been to alot of casinos thru out and the slots here are tight as tight. Please visit Tammy on Roulette as she is one of the nicest dealers you can come across.
Thanks Greenbrier for the 1st class weekend!

Rarely have I seen a menu where everything looked good, tasted fantastic and was reasonably priced.

The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs WV is one of America's greatest hotels and resorts and deservedly so. Its history stretches back well into the early 18th century and achieved national status by the 1860's. It has an incredible range of activities with something for everyone and almost every interest, whether it's golf, skeet, walking and hiking, general exercise, swimming, tennis, croquet, bowling, golf, gambling in the new casino and more, or just lounging around and taking it easy. Its several restaurants although pricey offer consistently excellent fare and attractive menus. The food services were 5-star. The Greenbrier's personnel are also 5-star: knowledgeable, friendly, polite and obviously well-trained. The decor is, well, strange but unique, created by the interior decorator Dorothy Draper. Not to everyone's taste (kitsch would be a word I'd use) and certainly unique. Nothing wrong with it; just not to our taste whatsoever. So, with all the 5-star elements why not a 5-star overall rating? There are a handful of true 5-star hotels (e.g., see the Forbes travel guides) and the Greenbrier used to be one of them but lost their rating almost a decade ago. Since the private investor Jim Justice bought the property from CSX a few years ago, they've been working hard to regain their 5-star rating. The difference in this case between 4- and 5-star rating is in the myriad small details, seemingly minor or not even visible to most clients. It's all in the detail. Recommendation: visit The Greenbrier and experience the ambiance and luxury of one of America's greatest hotels. Not to be missed.

Room Tip: Our experience is limited, but it seems like there were no bad rooms. Those on the upper floors pro...

The food is delicious and there is something for everyone to like at this restaurant. The decor is fun and the breakfast buffet is $18.00 but I found it was worth it for the experience. The employees are so friendly and helpful.

My three sisters and I love going to the Greenbrier Resort for real together time. We always feel like we are Princesses in a Palace. Our last trip was after Thanksgiving and we were given the choice of a cottage which was a real exciting experience this trip. There is not one negative thing about being at the Greenbrier. The employees are always kind and helpful, the food delicious but pricey (which was expected), and there is always so much to do, even in the winter. We love the afternoon tea, first run movies, tours, spa, sleigh ride, shopping, and just walking around in such an historic place is a privilege. To be honest, there is never enough time to do everything we would like to do and see at the Greenbrier. The one disappointment was that I thought that the whole place would be decorated for Christmas, however, we were too early. We will plan to go later next time. I love the Dorothy Draper decorating of all the rooms. We were also there last January and it snowed while we were there, Magical. Thanks to Jim Justice and the Virginia's discount it is more affordable now for more frequent visits.

Room Tip: I have never had a bad room.

is a multiple room mansion in the midst of a gorgeous mountain setting. There is any activity or amenity than any individual could desire. You can relax in a luxurious bar and enjoy a specialty drink, sink into a velvet couch with a delicacy from the daily tea, or relax on a rocker and take in the beautiful view. We were there for a business conference and I was more than happy to indulge in my favorites: tennis (indoor and outdoor courts) , exercise classes, and the indoor pool while my husband was "working".Just know that everything is a la carte and comes with a hefty price. The service is impeccable. They learn your name and remember it. A special thanks to Jen in Draper's for her warm hospitality. The rooms are charming but you will hear your neighbors (didn't bother us). Be sure to take the bunker tour and just Enjoy the superior service.

Room Tip: It is an older but beautiful building so you will probably hear your neighbors.

I have had the honor to have visited The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, several times, most recently the Summer of 2011. This grand hotel is set in the beautiful mountains of Eastern West Virginia and offers many amenities that you would expect of a resort built over 100 years ago. It has been maintained impeccably from the lush landscaping to the extravagant hotel. The restaurants offer a delicious variety and your days are spent shopping, golfing, swimming, horseback riding or relaxing at the spa. And, now they have a great casino. But the most memorable activity for me was touring the bunker. Built during President Eisenhower's term in the 1950's, it could house the Senate and House of Representatives if there was a nuclear attack. Kept a secret for many years and still maintained , but now open for tour. Don't miss this!

Room Tip: All rooms have beautiful decor.
