“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

stayed on a promotional package for 2 nights. It was as good as it had been in the past. They take care of your every need. Make sure you go to afternoon tea. We went right after thanksgiving and it was not croweded at all. The casino was fun as well and plenty of room at all the table games. If you get a opportunity to go don't pass it up.

Room Tip: all rooms have been great

A recent visit to The Greenbrier brought back fond memories and the pleasant surprise that the new owner is determined to have this wonderful property beautifully maintained as in the past.

The space is magnificent, sporting its traditional, bold color patterns. Same with the sleeping rooms. The main restaurant is top-flight, not only presenting creative, well prepared dishes, but a waitstaff that is attentive and well trained. (Other restaurants we tried were also well managed and presented tasty meal selections.)

The Bar is, like always, a showcase, a real attraction, with bartenders who understand the Martini.

I had apprehensions about the large gambling casino on the lower level. Fortunately, it seems this has not seriously threatened the place's classic style, simply because this level was nearly empty every time we visited it.

Manicured golf greens and fairways, well-pruned trees, and solitude were the rewards of our long walks through the grounds.

So, it is fair to ask why this resort is awarded only four stars. Answer: The new management has done much better in maintaining the property and grooming the staff than developing and managing an appropriate dress code. Somehow, blue jeans, baseball caps, and ragged clothing do not comport with the elegance of The Greenbrier and, in our opinion, negatively impacted the quality of the visit. We hope this will be remedied, because an elegant ambiance will always be the major draw of this superlative resort.

Room Tip: Simple ask when making your reservation. The staff is as courteous and helpful as can be found.

We really enjoyed the Greenbrier Resort. It is old-school excellence with thop notch service and a whole lot of charm. I was there for a conference. The setting was excellent. The food and activities were way overpriced. The Bunker tour was very interesting and I would highly recommend it. I enjoyed the casino and was happy to give them my money for a bit of fun.

You can tell that the entire staff loves coming here to work. We and all the other guests with whom we came in contact were having a ball. The Greenbrier's new owner, Mr. Justice, clearly honors its past, and is progressively and respectfully building its future. A fun tip we learned from regulars en route there is to get a golf cart after 3:00 p.m., when the price and demand go down, and self-tour the three non-member golf courses, to see the gorgeous scenery and the splendid homes surrounding them. Definitely "take the waters" with a (non-odiferous) "sulfur soak," and even if you don't swim, at least dip your feet in the stunning indoor pool. And all of the restaurants are excellent.

Room Tip: Request one of the Draper rooms; there is nothing like them elsewhere, anywhere.

What a wonderful place the Greenbrier is. Four restaurants , swimming pool, casino, bowling, hiking, and spa~ just to mention a few things we were able to squeeze in on our 2 day stay. The food and service at both breakfast and dinner were all on time .A lovely room, and very accommodting staff. Was it costly, yes. Was it worth it, absolutely! We went on the meal plan, by far the best deal for your $ We'll be back!

We have always wanted to stay at the Greenbrier and finally had the opportunity for a conference. Although we had the smallest and least expensive room, it was lovely and the daily service to the room was outstanding. You must love flowers to really enjoy this hotel as they are everywhere! It is part of the DNA of this property. The property is very lovingly taken care of, and you really get the feel that the employees love their jobs ( probably not a lot of other available jobs in the area). But, it IS very expensive is all aspects, and other than a quaint town nearby, there is not a lot to do off the property. The food is quite good, but we have had better elsewhere. The town of Lewisberg has some really great restaurants that are more reasonably priced and really really good, so worth a trip west 7 miles.
Jim Justice has done a fabulous job bringing this hotel back to where is should be! And good for him for hiring back all the employees that were let go when the hotel went bankrupt with the former owners!

There is no better resort in the USA than the Greenbrier. The Dorothy Draper decor is perfect for this resort. The amenities are all first rate and the food is excellent. It is predominately for an older clientele that has some taste. It is not for the grungy Generation Xers. It's only negative facet is that it is difficult to get to.
