“Historical Sophistication, Beauty and Charm complimented with Outstanding Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2011

I didn't know what to expect looking traveling to resort in West Virginia but I was pleasantly surprised by how I was greeted and how the staff went out of their way to make sure my stay was pleasurable.
The history of this property is remarkable and if you need to seek shelter in the event of a nuclear attack this is where you want to be. The Underground Bunker is enormous and you never realize you're in it unless you see the vault door.
Viewing Dresses of the First Ladies and the style of their era was quite interesting. The decor and architecture was a step back in time, and the gardens are absolutely breathtaking.
Bring your camera when you come or you will be disappointed if you don't.

The Greenbrier is an amazing historic resort that is worth the hike to it's somewhat remote location in Eastern West Virginia. We were a little nervous about travelling with our young son, however the staff was wonderful about accomodating us. (We didn't feel that we were disturbing other guests at all.) The decor is so authentic art-deco and every nook and cranny is in fantastic shape. I can see why Princess Grace and Prince Ranier vacationed here! A destination vacation for sure. One tip, if you are booking, be sure to look for their online special deals. They have some great values.

Just returned from a 3-night stay with my teenage daughter. We absolutely loved everything about the resort. Our room was beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous, but most important of all - the entire staff of the Greenbrier is superb. I have stayed at many expensive, exclusive resorts, but none can match the Greenbrier for the excellence of its entire staff. Everyone was very helpful, friendly, professional and ready to assist us in any way that they could. The inside of the resort is just as lovely as the outside and features some very dramatic public rooms with beautiful interior design and use of color. You will be pampered here, and yes its pricey, but SO worth it. Had wonderful massages at the spa. Our daily maid was so sweet we ended up hugging her when we departed. Can't say enough good things about this place. We will return next year for sure. Didn't try the casino because my daughter was too young, but it looked very classy. Men must wear sports jackets just to get in.

My husband and I stayed at The Greenbrier for 3 nights over Valentine's Day weekend. It was a great hotel with a lot to do, and we definitely look forward to returning for another visit! We loved the room (it was huge!), the casino (and I don't typically like to gamble!), the brunch buffet, the comedy show, the ice skating rink, and the musical shows! There is a "good luck" toast every night in the casino and the singers and dancers perform at intervals in the casino which I thought was great! The spa looked good although we didn't receive any services during our stay. The food in the restaurants was also pretty good. The property was gorgeous and we definitely want to return in warmer weather so we can explore a bit more and engage in some of the outdoor activities! The hotel is a little on the pricey side, and there are a lot of additional charges to encounter as a guest (e.g., shuttle ride to airport, comedy show, etc.) but if you don't mind the splurge it will be a great stay. Be forewarned that there is a resort dress code, and jeans are not permitted (although we did see a number of people wearing jeans during our stay.) The staff and service were adequate, although it wasn't anything extraordinary.

There wasn't any consistancy in the service or food of this resort. There were certain restaurants that were never open eventhough the daily bulletin listed their hours of operation. One day there wasn't a restaurant open for lunch.

There is a per person per night activity fee on top of the fees for the actual activity. We enjoyed the bunker tour. We tried our hand at falconry and had a good time.

Ice is at a premium and the small ice bucket is filled once per day. We called room service for ice and had to wait 55 minutes.

The room was very large and clean. The bathroom was very small, hardly able to fit one person.

We are glad we stayed there at least once as we won't be going back ever again.

Room Tip: Book through Snique Away when offered.

We have stayed at the Greenbrier several times over the years. We went this past weekend for my 50th birthday and I was thrilled to see that the resort is still as fabulous as ever. I was quite worried that the addition of the Casino might change the atmosphere but it hasn't . The service is still impeccable, the food fantastic. The staff works hard to make sure that every small detail is perfect. I am so happy that the Greenbrier is still the most beautiful, peaceful and gracious resort in the south.
