“Family wedding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2014

We stayed here for a family wedding, planned months in advance and as always plans change. The hotel were incredibly helpful when we changed our reservation about, when accommodation was needed early to allow guests to change, to allocate a room for an elderly guest unsteady on their feet and booking a taxi at the last minute to get us to the wedding! The food is delicious, we wished we could have had dinner on the two nights we stayed, but we did enjoy two lovely breakfasts. Great base for touring the area and will return if we are in that part of the world again.

Room Tip: The hotels has an outdoor pool but its not heated, take your costume, if the sun's shining it lo...

We have just returned from a relaxing weekend break at this lovely establishment, and I can`t fault it. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

From the moment that we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly and sincere welcome, and this continued throughout our stay. The whole atmosphere of the hotel was very peaceful and relaxing, and our room in the coach-house was lovely. It was clean and bright and very nicely decorated, with a huge bathroom.

We had the three-course dinner both nights, which were delicious; and because my companion is a vegetarian, and quite fussy in what he will and will not eat, they went out of their way to accommodate his requirements. This was all taken care of by e-mail before we even arrived.

Sam, whom we mostly saw, was a credit to the hotel, his professionalism and friendly chatter were most pleasing.

All the information required for the local facilities, i.e., bus time tables, boats trips, and local attractions etc., were all available in great detail in the room; and when we needed further information nothing was too much trouble.

One of the nicest places that we have ever stayed in, and as you can see from `Trip Advisor` I have been to quite a few.

Thank you and well done `The Old Rectory`: we hope to return in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: We stayed in the coach house which is separate to the main hotel, but I would image all the rooms to...

A pleasant, shady garden surrounds this beautiful hotel. There is an attractive swimming pool with sunny patios, a comfortable summerhouse complete with lounging and friendly Birman cats and welcoming outside seating for diners if the weather is kind.

And then one walks inside to find an immaculately decorated and comfortable interior, with tasteful furnishings and walls displaying paintings by a local artist.

The Old Rectory is lovely!

The owners and staff are friendly and simply cannot do enough for their guests. The food is incredible. We stayed for three nights and can honestly say that it had been ages since we had such delicious dinners - and the breakfasts are cooked individually and served quickly, with a good choice of dishes made from locally sourced ingredients.

We stayed in Room 4, a large and comfortable room with a well equipped bathroom. However the ceiling in this room had a decided slope to it and we both bumped our heads a couple of times - you need to take great care in this bathroom.

We agree with the majority of reviewers about The Old Rectory. It is a lovely place and we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it.

Stayed at this lovely independent hotel for a short anniversary break. A peaceful setting and convenient for exploring Norwich and The Broads. All the staff were helpful and welcoming and we were pleased that we risked booking half board as the evening meals were delicious. Good breakfasts with perfect poached eggs each morning. Our room in the coach house was well appointed and comfortable, but the sloping ceiling may be a problem for tall guests. Plenty of nice walks and a convenient bus stop outside.
Only very slight downside was the limited choice of rose wine on the list considering the good range of red and white.
Would certainly return.

Have just returned from a peaceful short break staying at the Georgian Listed Building - the Old Rectory. Heaps of charm and excellent beds, with good food and very efficient staff and owners. The hotel is set in landscaped gardens with a variety of seating areas set around an unheated swimming pool. We went by train and we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent public transport system. Bus stops lay in close proximity on the main road and we were able to travel to Bloxham on the Broads within half an hour.

My wife and I stayed here for a week as a base to explore Norwich and Norfolk.
Our double room on the first floor overlooking the beautiful front garden was very comfortable. The trees and hedges surrounding the lawn create a secluded effect, enhanced by the house being set well back up a driveway from the road through the village. Norwich is about 20-30 mins walk, or there are quite frequent buses into town(£2.50 fare). The hotel is situated near the riverside heart of Thorpe St Andrew and there are a number of nearby riverside pubs.
The breakfasts were excellent, with a good choice of traditional English fare.
We dined there each night. They have a good chef, who offers a varying menu with three choices for each course - we enjoyed everything we tried there (the dressed crab was particularly good).
I would certainly stay here again.

we had booked for one night only but wished it had been for a week.
The owners Chris and Sally provide a really welcoming experience as well as clearly giving attention to every detail, all for the comfort of their guests,
The whole ambience of the house and garden is charming and totally relaxing. Everything is impeccably clean, including the super pool and its surrounds.
If you want to go into Norwich city centre without the hassle of the car, the bus service is excellent.
And the food: fantastic.

We offer warm hospitality and friendly service to discerning travellers in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Every morning, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, cooked to order and served at your table. Our menu features local sausages, bacon, ham and eggs, Chef's own toasted muesli, thick yoghurt with home-made fruit compote, and artisan bread from a Norwich baker. Norwich International Airport (flights to Manchester, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and international flights via the KLM hub at Amsterdam Schipol) is 5 miles. The Norfolk Broads National Park and the sandy beaches of the east coast are a short drive, and many historic houses, nature reserves, gardens etc are within easy reach. ... more   less
