“Summersville Whitewater”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2009

We stopped at Summersville, WV on our way to and back from Myrtle Beach. The Super 8 was very clean and the room was well maintained and up to date. The Hotel is in a good location with several restaurants within walking distance. Summersville is beautiful especially in the fall. Summersville Lake and Summersville Dam are just a short drive from the Hotel and are beautiful locations to visit. The New River Gorge Bridge, where they have "Bridge Day" in the middle of Ocober is only about 20 miles away. Most of the things were great about the motel, but we had a king bed and the mattress sagged in the middle and should be replaced. The continental breakfast was good but there are no tables and chairs. It seems the front desk has a fair amount of flexibility in the room rate charged and we know some who paid less than we did with our reservation. Be careful of Highway 19 as it is a real speed trap and this time of year there can be a lot of fog in the morning. This area is paradise for anyone who loves white water rafting.

We were traveling to NC for a wedding and decided to split the drive and stay overnight in WV, leaving the next morning. I booked the Super 8 online on their web site for around $70 and found the staff to be very friendly, room to be much cleaner than you would expect for a hotel that gets about 2 stars on all the travel sites. We even had a fridge and a microwave and free high speed internet. I was pleased with the rate and the quality of the room, it was better than i expected. I would not book a long stay here, but for the price and purpose it was perfectly fine for us.

We were traveling with a small group of friends when we stopped at the Summerville Super 8. It seems to be comparable to the other hotels located nearby. The rooms were adequate considering the reasonable rate and the linens clean. Our room was missing a wall hairdrier and the bathroom fan did not work so the rooms need a little work. The hotel is convenient to restaurants and the small breakfast choices are good. The location makes the second floor room a little noisy but the overall cost was excellent. We found the staff very friendly.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars.
Central location on RT. 19, in the heart of the tourism area.
Reasonalbe rates: About $58 with tax - 1 person - 1 nite.
Spacious room and reasonably clean. Just a "tad" bit of noise from the room above - holiday travelers (like myself) with families.
My room was recently rennovated - only had some minor glitches. Customer service and hospitality was very good.
Simple continental breakfast with bagles, danish, cereal, and coffee.
Free high-speed wireless internet. Only local calls free.
I would stay here again if rates remain reasonable.

I stayed at this property for one night while in the area for recreation. Knowing that I would have a late arrival and early departure the next morning, I chose not to pay the $100+ for the local Hampton or Country Inn. I cashed in 6000 Wyndham points and bedded down at the Super 8 for nine hours.

The property is located in a shopping area adjacent to US 119. The exterior was clean and typical of the Super 8 chain. Check-in was a quick affair with my request for a non-smoking double bedded room honored.

The hallways were noted to have a musty odor, but this did not extend to the room. The room was clean, but the carpet could use some shampoo. The bathroom was bare bones with typical motel towels, two bars of soap and a hair dryer. Other amenties such as shampoo were non-existant. The tub was noted to have some delamination of its fiberglass construction. Bedding was clean and comfortable and the TV, radio, lights etc. worked as advertised.

Breakfast is offered in the lobby, although there is a void of seating and all food must be taken back to the room. I skipped it and went to a local restaurant.

Check-out was interesting as the clerk was telling another customer about his trip the week before saying, "We were gone for two nights and I stayed smashed the whole time." How impressive that is!

When traveling you get what you pay for. Although I didn't pay, I would not want to stay here more than a couple of nights. If you are into basic and bare bones, this is the place.

  • Liked — Location of the property.
  • Disliked — Lack of amentities. A little shampoo would have been great!

not the best super 8 but not the worst we have stayed in.
when we booked room we asked for a smoking handicapped room. we got a smoking room on the third floor with no elevator.
we had a late check in so i was too tired to complain.i am not wheelchair bound so i struggled up the flights of stairs. the room was a standard room. bed was ok. room really stank for a smoking room.anybody ever hear of febreeze??? my husband took a bath after a day of whitewater rafting and saw mold in the tub-i never noticed while taking a shower. construction of a auto parts store next door started at six am. staff was really nice at check in/out. location was good for the area of outdoor activities

  • Liked — location and proximity to lake/river activities
  • Disliked — no elevator
