“Nice, clean hotel with indoor pool & hot tubs, & good food at restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2010

The stars for this inn are for the room & facilities only. We had a horrible experience actually getting up to the mountain & even out of the parking lot in the morning, due to the weather. I think Snowshoe Resort was terribly, terribly unprepared for the snow storm they received & it cost tons of people a Friday there. More about that after the room review...

We stayed here this past weekend, in the middle of a blizzard. The rooms were slightly larger than a normal hotel room, with a good sized bathroom. Bed was comfy, pillows were fine, the rooms we stayed in had no fridge or microwave. The heater didn't work when we first arrived but was soon fixed. There is a restaurant inside the Inn, Brandi's, which had good food in big portions. There is a nice, clean indoor pool with 2 hot tubs & a smaller 'kiddie' pool. I think every stay includes a free breakfast at the restaurant, which is a hot buffett, also very good. This is a much cheaper alternative (on the weekend, anyway) to staying on top of the mountain.

Now for the problems with transportation. We arrived Friday morning, & were allowed to check in right away. We had lift tickets for that day & Saturday, but the roads were horrible due to a heavy snow storm, & we were told by the front desk they were running shuttles from the Inn to the top of the mountain every hour. So we waited. And waited. With tons of other people in the lobby. Finally decided to try it on our own (we had all wheel drive). Headed up the mountain & about half way up, there is a semi that jacknifed & blocked traffic. Now I know this is not Snowshoe's fault, but it seems like they could have had someone radio the Inn & let them know what was going on. Instead, there is a state trooper half way up the mountain, just not letting anyone through. Now, it makes sense to me that you put someone at the bottom of the mountain & not let cars up. Because we ended up with a huge line of cars, tons of which were light, low profile vehicles, getting stuck & trying to turn around. We got back down, then tried another way up, which we were told was blocked so they could bring a plow through & to go back the other way. So we did. And waited some more. By the time we got to the top of the mountain it was near 5. In Snowshoe's defense, they did let us switch our lift tickets to Sunday, but a lot of people had to drive back Sunday & didn't have that option. That night, everyone that had reservations at the top of the mountain apparently had to park at the Inn & take a shuttle, so the next morning, we couldn't get out of the parking lot. It was blocked at every entrance. The staff at the Inn had been told about 8 that morning that no one could get out, but it was over an hour later & nothing had been done about it. Luckily, tons of people had to physically move a van that was blocking an entrance, as The Inn staff never responded to this problem. Once we were out of the parking lot, the roads had been cleared & we ended up having an epic day skiing. We were just terribly, terribly disappointed in the way transportation & especially communication were handled at Snowshoe Friday.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2009

We stayed here for a train trip at CASS. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This place was beautiful!! Our room was huge. Everything was very clean. The indoor pool with hot tub area was fabulous! We made good use of it. The front desk also gave us a free fun pass to use for the ski lift and indoor water park located at the top of the mountain. That was awesome. The price for this place was outstanding for the value in every way. The views were breathtaking. We had breakfast the cafe, it was good. The only thing I would change about this place is to have more and better restaurants around. It's out in the middle of nowhere with not much to choose from if you're hungry. Not a biggie. We made due. My family and I can't wait to come back.
