One of Shepherdstown's many charms is its small but superb number of restaurants, where I have been pleased to share in many a fine meal over the past year or so. Perhaps, however, none finer than that which I shared a few days ago at the Yellow Brick Bank. While a creature of habit, I bucked my usual menu selection there (bourbon salmon) and opted for the Vegetarian Butternut Squash Raviloi. I am no food critic, but the scene in Rattatouille at the end of the movie comes to mind when the snippy old food critic takes one bite of his meal and is promptly transported back to his childhood days when his Mother made Rattatouille for him. Okay, Mom never made Butternut Squash Raviloi, but if she had, it would never ever have been this good (sorry Mom). Succulent pasta pockets with a light center of perfectly cooked Butternut Squash, all covered in what I think must have been a light (very light) dusting of nutmeg, all in a sauce you could taste but not feel going down.
Coupled with the Cream of Broccoli and Eggplant soup, and folks, it was simply LIGHTS OUT.
To the chef at Yellow Brick, well done.
