We have always heard from friends and neighbors just how great the Bavarian Inn is supposed to be. We had the opportunity to stop here on the way to a business stay in Shepherdstown for Sunday brunch so we thought we'd give it a try. We knew it was pricey at $33 a person, but thought, as always, if the food is good it's worth the price. Boy were we wrong. Although the selection of items available is extensive, it's still just another buffet, and perhaps not even as good as some others that are far less expensive. There is definitely an art to preparing and serving buffet food and keeping it fresh and tasty, but they haven't figured that out even after all these years. We kept trying small samplings of the wide variety of things available, but each item seemed to be just as unimpressive as the last. The seafood was average at best, the prime rib was ok. The turkey breast was probably the best. Even the English muffins under the eggs benedict were like trying to cut leather. The sauerbraten wasn't even close to average. We make a much better batch at home. And the desserts seemed as though they came right out of the Entenmann's case at the supermarket. Sorry, but there's no way the buffet is worth that kind of money. Perhaps a sit down meal is much better, but it would have to be a LOT better to justify the prices they charge.

I'm sorry you didn't like the brunch. It has been our most popular meal period since we started 5 years ago, and we usually receive rave reviews about it. Perhaps the a la carte selection is much more up your alley, and we hope that you'll join us for that some day.
