“A Nice Place to Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

The Bavarian Inn is one of those "old reliables." We stayed in a standard room in one of the large lodge buildings. If one wants to splurge, there are smaller buildings where rooms have views of the Potomac and jacuzzis. Our room was pleasant, clean and comfortable with the a lovely balcony. The staff were helpful. We enjoyed the restaurant, and Sheperdstown is a good walking town. Golf courses abound within a 30-45 minute drive.

Thank you for sharing your comments with us and trip advisor. We are happy we have become your "old reliable!" We also have a great affiliation with Cress Creek Golf Course which is about a three minute drive from the Inn. We hope to welcome you back soon!
Sincerely,
The Asam Family

This place is great for a romantic getaway. The rooms are a little dated, but so cute and romantic. We enjoyed a 2 day weekend here. The staff at check in were so WONDERFUL. We ate dinner one night in the pub and the food was delicious. I love the pumpkin soup. Everyone from check-in to check-out that we came in contact with were so nice. Highly recommend this Inn for a nice place to treat yourself to.

Due to Hurricane Sandy, the cruise my husband and I had planned was cancelled. We had scheduled this cruise on our anniversary, and were considering it our much belated honeymoon. When our cruise was cancelled we were on the search for something local. My parents recommended The Bavarian Inn. I called asking if they had rooms available, luckily they did as well as a suite.

We decided to book the suite and what I would consider a reasonable rate. Upon arrival, we were blown away. I'm a planner usually so I had no real idea as to what to expect. We were given The Presidential Suite, which also comes with it's own parking spot. The grounds are gorgeous and clearly maintained with a lot of care and attention to detail.

The Presidential Suite is accessed using its own private door and staircase. You meet another more ornate door at the top of the stairs which you use your access key again to unlock. When you open the door you are greeted by a very cozy room. The ornate bed faces a HUGE jacuzzi tub, chandeliers around the room are on dimmers, there is also a double sided fireplace. All the televisions are flat screens, which I prefer. I can't really say enough about the Inn as well as the Presidential Suite.

The restaurants were all very good. Although I do with the downstairs pub had a more casual menu with some pub fare. The nicer upstairs dinning room and pub currently share the same menu. We loved how easy it was to drive to the casino in Charles Town, but enjoyed coming back to the Inn in the evening to enjoy dinner on the grounds and not have to worry about driving.

Honestly, it will be hard for me to spend more on trips the include airfare and travel costs knowing that The Bavarian Inn is so close to home and such a wonderful place to stay. We will be back for sure. Thank you for an amazing few days!

Room Tip: We loved The Presidential Suite.

Our original plan was to stay somewhere in Harpers Ferry, but we are very happy we decided to stay at the Bavarian Inn. The room was spacious and it was overlooking the river, the bed was very comfortable (my husband asked the reception for the mattress brand name). Everything was clean and the bathroom was equipped with all kind of toiletries. The room has a cute semi-private balcony with a table and 2 chairs. (Lattice partition separates you from your neighbor.) We enjoyed a glass of wine overlooking the wonderful fall colors and next morning a nice cup of coffee (hotel provides coffeemaker, coffee and cream). We also had a really nice meal the night we arrived at the Rathskeller (live music and pretty cozy) and the Sunday brunch provides an incredible variety of choices. Service was super. We definitely will come back.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the river - preferable on top floor.

Some European touch that we are missing in US- We enjoyed our stay last weekend at the Bavarian Inn. Our room was river view and very pleasant. We are a bit picky about the neatness of the place we stay at. Sheets and bathroom were clean. The room was roomy enough for both of us. The staff were helpful and friendly.

If you decide to stay at this Inn, please make sure to eat at least two meals there. We enjoy game food. And, they had the best selection game food as well as the best German bear to go with them. However, if you are not into game meat, you still get a great selection of other types of food.

I think if we decide to go to WV for a short trip, we will stay there again to enjoy the beautiful view and the colorful fall.

Room Tip: Enjoy the food at the restaurants at the Inn. Also, enjoy the town and its cafes and the outfitter.

My husband and I stayed at the Bavarian Inn to attend the wedding of my niece. Our room was nice, however crowded because of the large wood bed and extra pieces of furniture. Bed was comfortable. The Room had a fridge; 2 vanity areas, a door to the outside balcony which overlooked the other buildings of the Inn -- a pretty view. We attended a private dinner celebration at the restaurant on Friday evening. German food was served which was delicious -- we also heard others complementing the food. The staff at the Inn were very attentive -- always offering to help out. We had breakfast on Sunday morning -- The Eggs Benedict and Crab Eggs Benedict got huge raves. The scenery in the area was beautiful on this fall weekend.

I stayed here for 3 days for a group activity and was surprised how nice it was. Nestled on a bridge overlooking the Potomac on the border of MD and WV. The checkin and restaurants are in the quaint stone building and the sleeping rooms are displayed around the parking lot. Painted yellow with colorful designs on them. My room was well appointed with a balcony but a little tight between the bed and TV armoire. Food and beer were excellent. The lodging price was fair. The college and road across the street are undergoing construction now which gave slight inconvenience, but that is only temporary. I plan to return.
