“Cozy Cabin on Snowy Eve.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

My husband and I were traveling home from VA when the weather suddenly turned bad. Not wanting to cross several mountains in snowy weather we opted to find a place to stay in Seneca Rocks. We chose Appalachian Cabins and was very pleased with the cabin. Although we are certainly no longer "honeymooners" they put us in what they call a honeymoon cabin. It was a beautiful cabin with one bedroom. Was very clean and presentable. The interior walls looked just like the outside of the cabin. No drywall or paneling, giving it a very rustic look. The floor was laminated hardwood with tile in the bathroom. There was a huge jacuzzi tub in the bathroom (no shower) which we enjoyed very much. There was also a fully equipped kitchen although we had not prepared to stay and had nothing to fix. We were pleased to see that firewood was provided free of charge and were able to build a fire in the fireplace. We truly enjoyed this impromptu mini vacation sitting by the fire while the snow was piling up outside. I would most definitely recommend Appalachian Cabins.

Room Tip: This cabin did not have a shower, only a jacuzzi tub. Not sure what the other cabins have.

We stayed in cabin # 1 in Dec. It was very roomy, two bedrooms on the ground floor and 3 more beds in the loft. The cabin had a full kitchen, washer and dryer and a wood burning fireplace. They provide firewood free of charge and we eagerly built a fire and kept it going the whole time we were there. The cabin had about a 46 in. flat screen television. The bathroom had a shower, but no tub. The sink was a unique feature with a large tree stump type base. As mentioned in some other reviews, the walls to the bathroom do not go all the way up to the ceiling making it a little less private than I would have liked, but no great big deal. There is a hot tub out back of each of the family cabins. We enjoyed using ours. It was nice and clean and smelled of chlorine.

Negatives would have been....There were some flies in the kitchen window, but these are rustic cabins, so I would imagine it's a common problem. The truck noise from the road was a little loud, but the other cabins in the area sit right on the roadway as well, so take your pick. The recliner in the living room needed replaced. Nothing that would keep us from coming back again.

All in all we had a great time and would recommend these cabins. Very close to all the main attractions.

The cabin was nice. It had plenty of room and the price was the cheapest I had found. Owners were very understanding when I couldn't make it in time to pay that day they came around to the cabin and collected the money. However the cabin was dirty, the dishes were not good to be used. The back door didnt unlock with the key. There was multiple roof leaks! Luckily my phone was not on the coffee table or kitchen table that water poured into. The bathroom had no privacy totally open on top where you could hear everything. Then the Internet cost $5 a day and it DID not even work at all. If you're looking for a cheap decent cabin they do have them. But many downfalls. Also the hot tub had gobs of hair floating around in it. Cleanliness and maintenance was poor!! It even had a light above the stove that was poorly put in and cautioned you to use it for your safety. Bit ridiculous.

I booked this cabin for 3 nights. First night we arrived around 4:00, moved in, was concerned with location of road due to road noise and first impression was that it was basically clean but furnished with garage sale furniture. Office lady was nice and said to call if there were any problems. Here's what was wrong:
1) The jacuzzi did not heat up. Although we filled it according to the directions on the wall, the heater did not work. So it was a cool water bath. That was why we booked that cabin - the jacuzzi.
2) No shower at all or even handheld shower attachment to connect to tub faucet to facilitate washing hair.
3) Towels were threadbare and worn out.
4) No mirror over sink. Makes it hard to shave for a man.
5) No ceiling in bathroom - that gives zero privacy in the bathroom.
6) No phone - if there was a need to contact the owner/manager in case of an emergency then how would we call? There's no cell service there and no phone in the cabin for an emergency.
7) Front door had no deadbolt - any past guest could've copied a key and used it to enter the cabin at will. Not a secure cabin.
8) Mattress had no mattress cover that enclosed mattress - that is a health issue.
9) Bed linens and covers were threadbare and wornout.
10) Pillows smell horrible - old and stinky
11) Found a short curly dark hair on pillow - GROSS! Had it even been washed? Couldn't tell due to bad smell of pillows.
12) Mattress was lumpy, saggy, old.
13) Cabin lighting completely inadequate in every room.
14) Road noise was unbelievably loud, all night long.
15) Flies even in October - spaces in chinks allowed us to see to the outside - that's where the flies must come in.
16) Had to pay for a week of wifi access and the signal strength varied from zero to just barely enough to use. It was variable access, not dependable. This was pd to phone company not property owner though.
We were denied our $50 deposit at 8 a.m. when we checked out. This is the worst room I have ever stayed in, bar none. Rustic doesn't have to mean dirty, smelly, and worn out. Run, don't walk, from this place.

Room Tip: There will be no quiet cabins due to location of heavily traveled road in front of property. The on...

We stayed in Cabin #5. It was some what clean aside from dead bugs and spiders laying around. There were broken endstand in the bedroom, and a busted up dresser in the bedroom as well. The couch was old and broken down and not at all comfortable, the cushions wouldn't stay in place, The bed was horrible!! The frame squeaked and rattled and was about to fall apart ..they stack two mattresses on that..both of which were shot. We did enjoy the jacuzzi...however it's jets were not as strong as others I have been in and I wish there would have been at least a small shower in the bedroom or somewhere to grab quick showers. The location is too close a main road for our liking..we prefer to rough it and like the sounds of nature not semis. But really all in all it worked out ok and served the purpose..not sure if we would come back though...but the price is very good.

Cabin was clean as stated in other reviews, however, the rest of the cabin was in serious need of some maintanence. Had to screw and unscrew a light bulb to get the light on and off above the stove. The refrigerator had no light and didn't keep things cold. Furniture is very old, and the bed we slept in smelled of Vick's Salve (don't think the bed clothing is changed after each visit). Kitchen sink stained. Kitchen cabinet doors would not stayed closed and a couple of them remained open. Towels in the bathroom were what I call "ratty" and frayed. The lighting in the cabin is very poor in the all rooms. Hot tub was dirty, and when the jets came on it had so much foam on the water that it had to be turned off. Left a funky smell on a person when they got out. No hand rails to get in and out of the hot tub on Cabin 3. Living room furniture looked like something out of the Adam's family living room. Red riveted leather straight backed couch and chairs. Only enough seating for four people, unless someone sat at the dining room table on the chairs. Furniture was not comfortable in the least. Cabin can sleep 10+, but, there were only four dining room chairs with a very old dining room table. I was disappointed with the overall inside appearance of the cabin and it's contents. I would not go there again, and I will not recommend these cabins to any of my friends.

My daughter and I came to the area to do some fishing. We wanted a place to use as a base cmp to go out into the surrounding area. We didn't want anything fancy. Found this place online. I was a little dubious at first because the price was so low but as soon as we got there, I was put at ease. The lady who checked us in was very friendly. We got to our room and it was more than I expected. Very clean, sure it could use some little maintenance fix-ups but everything was in working order. If there were more people or you wanted a little nicer place, I would think their cabins would fit the bill. We plan on going to the area in the future and I will certainly book with Appalachian Cabins.
