“Very relaxing and beautiful resort - we spent our 37th Anniversary there”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2012

Our first visit to the Stonewall Resort...and I give it a wonderful review. The people working therre were amazing from the bell boys to the wonderful waitress at the resorts restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant the food and atmosphere were amazing. We decided to have the buffet and it was not a disappointment. Only 4 or so choices for salads or main course ..but each choice was beautifully displayed and even better tasting. We traveled with our puppy Lacey and was given a room in a wing of the resort at the very far end....which was perfect for us. Lacey being a Beagle can annoy guests but we were lucky and she was very good. The end room was next door to an exit which faced the lake with easy access to taking her outside. The lake and grounds and pool area are simply beautiful. Trails and bridges were fun to explore. The only downfall we experienced was visiting during the month of October....while the leaves were simply gorgeous the lake was lowered and not as many water crafts were being used. Can't wait to go back again and take advantage of all the gread options Stonewall has to offer.

Thank you for your review of our resort. We appreciate your feedback. At the time of your stay, the US Army Corps of Engineers had lowered the water level well below normal in order to perform some maintenance items on Stonewall Jackson Dam. Those repairs are complete and the lake is now back to "winter pool" level, which is 6 feet lower than normal or "summer pool" level. Please visit us again soon!

My husband and I did a "Stay and Play" package for our 18th wedding anniversary. We had dinner at Stillwaters where the food and service was excellent and they surprised us with a beautiful, complimentary dessert that said "Happy Anniversary." The rooms were 1st class in amenities and cleanliness. We both had spa massages that were spectacular. The grounds are true to WV beauty. We are used to staying at WV state parks, but this was a first class resort within the beauty of a WV state park. Fantastic!

My family rented several lake-side cottages for a wedding/reunion at the Stonewall Resort. My cabin was a two-bedroom cottage on the end of the row. The cottage was very clean and well stocked with linens and kitchen supplies. The living room tv console was missing a DVD player, a must for rainy days. The pull-out couch was very squeaky. The live flowers on the doorstep and gas fireplace were great touches to the cottage. The view was beautiful and we took advantage of sitting out on the back deck. Although it was small, it had a small table, several chairs and a grill. Our cottage was on the end next to the woods so several deer walked by our door. We dined at Lightburn's Restaurant for the rehearsal dinner and the food and service were perfect. The wait staff went out of their way to attend to our every need. We also used a canoe to paddle around the lake. The recreation staff was very polite and helpful, warning us of hazardous areas due to low water. Although the cost of the cottage is a little pricey, the resort fee allows people to take advantage of many activities on the grounds. We visited the Christmas shop and the Mountain-made store and made several purchases. My husband and I have used the spa services for massages in the past and highly recommend it. Slots go quickly so make sure that you call ahead and make an appointment.

Room Tip: Cottages on the end are more serene. Less human foot traffic and more wildlife sightings.

I wanted to give the Stonewall Resort a '5' rating, but a broken elevator and the fact that October is considered to be off-season which made the Activity Center not open during the week at all and reduced hours on other things, made me rate it as a '4' instead. We'd like to go back sometime in season (about Memorial Day to Labor Day) because the resort is truly a destiniation by itself and it would be nice to be there when everything is up and running. The sprawling lodge is huge. There is an Arnold Palmer designed golf course that works it's way through the resort grounds, a nice indoor/outdoor pool, 3 restaurants, a party boat, some activities covered by the resort fee (canoes, paddleboats), a marina, an activity center, and more. One of the best parts is the location - nestled among the mountains and in mid-October the fall foilage was glorious! It was easy to get to from the interstate and even had cell service throughout the whole resort. We thought that the prices were fair and the food was good. It's really a lovely place.

Room Tip: Check on change is hours if going during the off-season.

My husband and I stayed at the resort for our one year wedding anniversary. We were there for 4 nights (10/14-10/18). We are so glad that we stayed there. It was absolutely beautiful. The hotel/lodge is really nice. Sure you can find some older carpet here and there, but overall it is very clean and attractive. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our server was Daniel and he was really funny and he took good care of us. The food at the restaurants is a little pricey, but is very good. There is a lot to do at the resort. You can take a walk in the woods, walk by the lake, take a boat tour, canoe or kayak or ride bikes. There is also a really nice heated indoor/outdoor pool. I highly recommend the resort and hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Try to do a pay ahead option so you can save some money on the room reservation.

We stayed for two nights during the winter. We went for a convention and the convention space was also very nice. The Resort is beautiful and very big. We also ordered room service, which was actually pretty good. We felt like the rooms were very clean and big. We liked that the resort had a ton of windows.

I was a little worried at first because my family and I stayed in a handicapped room. But it was lovely, they have a great heated pool outside and a good workout room. Don't be fooled though they will charge you for everything even calling on the telephone. It was a pricey stay but in the end we didn't want to stay in our car.
