“third trip this year to stonewall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

Hello, just got back from 3 days at our favorite retreat. We arrived, checked in, ate a lightburns overlooking the beautiful golf course and lake- food was great. Spent time at a wonderful outdoor pool, with 2 hot tubs, sauna, wonderful locker rooms, unlimited towels,
drinks and food available to eat while overlooking the pool and beautiful lake. I played golf at the Arnold Palmer golf course, while my wife had breakfast in bed, layed by the pool, and
had a pedicure. The beds and pillows are wonderful, the staff will do anything you ask, and
everything is soooooo clean. Breakfast is out of this world.
A new activity center has been added- miniature golf, rockwall climbing, treats, segway tours, outdoor frisbee golf, free boat ride, dinner overlooking the lake, fishing, pontoon
boats, horseshoes, antiquing and wineries nearby, walking trails, all kinds of nature to see, I am a palmer card member- great value.
If you donot like this place- you came with the wrong attitude. I have visited this place at
least 3 times a year for the past 3-4 years. I have grandchildren, children of ages 35 and 33. and they both love it. Check out the trees in October, no place more beautiful than this
place. Ask me anything. The detail by Mr. Hager- the resort manager is beyond my
expectations. If you need 2 days to get away, this is it!!!!!!!!!!!

Read all mixed reviews before staying here. We came from Ohio and very easy to get to, off the highway. We absolutely loved this place. In our opinion, the layout and aesthetics of lodge, signage, trails, boats, food at all three restaurants, guest amenities and lodge room were wonderful. During our short 3 day stay, there were two weddings and several groups for meetings and conferences. You barely knew it though, as everything ran so smoothly and did not interfere with our leisure stay. Because the place is so big with many activities and amenities, it is never overcrowded in one place. Very easy to pace yourself on when and what to do. Tours at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum and wine tasting at Lambert's in Weston will not disappoint.

Breakfast and lunch buffets in Stillwaters were attractively displayed and very tasty! Breakfast included made to order omelets and waffles, meats, potatoes, eggs, fruit, pastry, french toast, breads etc. Lunch had a large selection of salads, soups, sandwiches and entrees. Both buffets were reasonably priced for all that was offered. We did not have dinner in Stillwaters, but checked out the buffet a couple times. It also looked wonderful. Muskie's had a great casual menu. The pizza, burgers, sliders and hummus platter were great. We celebrated a birthday with dinner at Lightburn's. Portions were huge and delicious and complimentary carrot cake for the birthday person. We felt the prices at all three restaurants were comparable to anywhere else for type of food received. Service, time wise, was a little slower than expected considering it was never busy at the times we visited restaurants.

Two months prior to our visit, help was needed on some issues with our reservation made online. Telephone inquiries to the general line were not helpful and answers to questions were ambiguous. An email to the general manager on a Saturday morning prompted an immediate phone call from the Director of Rooms on her day off, from home. She was extremely professional, took an interest in my concerns, understood and answered all questions and offered her direct line, if additional questions arose. I had to make an adjustment in my original reservation within a week of arrival which was also taken care of.

Couple suggestions include better monitoring of the pool and hot tubs. we saw three year olds, with life jackets on, in the hot tub at 10PM. "No one under 12 allowed"?? The hot tubs felt wonderful, but even as an adult, we all had to get out frequently because of the high temp. Not a place for toddlers. Hot tubs are an adult luxury for relaxing and socializing, not a play pool for children.

TVs should be upgraded to flat screens. The small tube TVs in the rooms are not conducive to the quality of this resort. Since most people are used to flat screens at home, this is a downgrade in a resort of this type.

Brochure given at check-in is said to give the guest all current information on resort, restaurants and activities. However, when we wanted to have dinner at Lightburn's at 7:3PM, we found they actually closed at 7:00PM and not 9:00PM as the brochure states. When I called to attention of front desk, they were not concerned or apologetic; would not be changing it until they need to print again. Understandable, but let your guests know about any discrepancies when they check in.

We truly enjoyed our 3-day getaway at the lodge and hope to return with a cottage stay and golf .

Room Tip: Search for best rates if travel time is flexible. Average room and cottage rates can be a bit pricey...

I was only here for one night, for a conference I was speaking at, but it was a lovely experience. the staff was great, and the room was comfortable, with everything I needed. I would love to come back in the summer to experience the outdoor activities and spa facilities.

We stayed at Stonewall Resort Lodge in August 2011. We also stayed the previous year in a cottage. We found the lodge rooms to be a bit nicer than the cottages, though the cottages are fine, if you need the space and/or kitchen. We used the Resort Rascals and it was fine for the kids, but quite pricey.
Pros: nice location, beautiful lake, great if you have a boat or rent a boat, decent swimming pool, lodge rooms were updated, clean
Cons: Poor service (particularly the poolside dining service), food is not very good and you don't have other nearby options, bike trails are limited
Suggestions for the resort: get more/better 2-person kayaks and add a few tennis courts. Expand the bike trails.

Thank for telling us about your visit and we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. We will share your suggestions with our recreation and culinary teams and make improvements. Actually, the resort just purchased YOLO stand up paddle boards for our guests to enjoy. We hope you can return and try out stand up paddle boarding!

I spent one night on a school business trip. Outstanding, clean room. The food was outstanding, as was the pool and exercise room. The staff was most helpful. Although somewhat expensive for someone on a teachers salary, I hope to return one day for a family mini-vacation.

This is a beautiful campground. The views of the lake & the golf course are stunning. Our camp site was huge (site #40). My only complaint was that we were facing a boat trailer parking lot & our site was BEFORE the sign saying only registered campers beyond this point. That meant that there were a lot of people turning around at our camp site. We didn't like the gravel drive either. Other than that, we loved staying here. For $14 a day for 4 people ($3.50 each person over 4... we are a family of five), you were able to use all the resort facilities. That was really nice. We used the spa for services, the gym, the pool, the kayaks, the paddle boats, the boat cruise on Little Sorrel & my son even spent one morning in camp (which he LOVED). We did drive to the lodge because I felt the roads were too narrow to ride our bikes safely. I'd love to see a bike path to the lodge!! There is a shuttle to take you to & from the lodge which my kids did use a couple of times. We cooked every night so I can't talk about the restaurants. I read in other reviews about no tv or internet... we had both. Maybe that's a recent upgrade but we were happy to have both! I would definately stay here again but I would request a different site.

Thank you for your review of our resort. It was great to learn that you and your family had a great stay. We appreciate your comments and we have shared them with our staff. Regarding the bike trail to the lodge, we are in the planning stages to add a bike trail that will parallel the road to the lodge and that should be completed in 2012. In addition, we will break ground this fall on a pedestrian bridge over the lake that will directly connect the campground with the lodge. That will be completed by February 2012. We did add free, high speed wireless Internet service to the campground this summer so we are pleased you were able to enjoy that service. We look forward to welcoming you back to our campground again soon!

Just got home from Stonewall Jackson Resort at ummmmm 0222 AM. Why? The room next to us decided to have a huge party. The kept slamming the door, yelling and banging around. We called the front desk and nothing was done. When we decided to check out in the middle of the night, the receptionist asked why the midnight check out. We told her the situation. Her response, "Ok, Bye." No apology, no we can make this right, or any attempt to amend the situation. But in all honesty we were not to disappointed. It just a Holiday Inn on a lake.
Wont be back!!
