“Great spot to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

I found this place like you just did by Internet search. Had a job in the area and wanted to stay somewhere that allowed for own food preparation and comfortable surroundings. the price was cheaper than two hotel rooms of which was needed if not staying here. Stayed in the "Sugar Shack" cabin and found it very clean and comfortable. We had four workers most of the time and had plenty of room to avoid one another if so desired I sleep very erratic and am usually up at all hours of the night at which time I would sit on the covered porch for a time and listen the deafening quiet other than the usual night critters.
Just going a bit farther and may be wanting to come back here for family vacation, I checked out the bathrooms/showers and found them to be average and seemed to be clean. Checked out the camper sites and found 30 amp service(only) with full hookups. The sites would be easy to get into and set up. Looks like a great variety of playground equipment for the kids.
I believe that the person that had the bad experience with the noise may have hit an off night or a VERY rude party as I or any of my coworkers had no trouble with other noisy campers.
The staff was very friendly and worked with me to make my needed reservation dates work out for the dates needed for our stay.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend this place to any one else for long weekend or a job related accommodation.

NOW FOR THE BAD (sort of). This place is located down five miles of "goat path". The scenery is great and you need to take your time with the hills and curves. In a car or pulling a very light camper most likely will not have any trouble If you have a large and maybe a not so large RV, you will want to be VERY CAREFUL coming here unless you are VERY EXPERIENCED in controlling your RV on VERY steep hills. There are two not so bad hills (but will get you into trouble if not careful) before you get tho the last BIG MAMA. You will know that you are about to descend this hill by looking for a driveway that looks like you are going to go in the driveway and the road turns to the right. This drive has two red brick post on either side of it. DESCEND THIS HILL IN LOW GEAR AND VERY SLOWLY SO YOU DO NOT HEAT UP YOUR BREAKS................TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! .............THIS HILL IS LONG AND STEEP.
I have over fifteen years or over the road experience and this hill DEMANDS respect!!!
No more than you start down it you can see over the valley where the campground is located............BEAUTIFUL!!!

The"bad" is in no way meant discourage anyone from coming here but just a warning of what I found so as to not ruin your whole day. It was meant to be able to get you there safely

Beautiful scenery on twisty country road and though campground is right next to the road, a scenic location great for stargazing. Stopped for a night with pop-up camper on the way farther south with husband and two grandsons, ages 7 and 10. Campsites are on flat grassy area with loop gravel road and nice playground in center, very convenient to let kids play in sight. Also nice view of lake and cabins downhill on two sides with big grassy area between. Grass was kind of high and some mowing was being done at dusk. Nice store/office across the road, one bathhouse/restroom near road, convenient/close for some campers, less so if site is on the back part of the loop. When we pulled in around 7 pm, fairly loud/annoying headbanger music from site a few sites away which they turned down after a bit, then up later. Had a good evening overall but noise level escalated as the evening progressed. Rules on hand-out given on registering clearly stated no parties, alcohol and that quiet time began at 10 p.m. By 11:30, an obvious party a couple sites away was getting into full, loud swing along with pretty general loudness/rowdiness from several other sites. Around midnight, an entire family pulled into the site next to us - more loud talking with totally no consideration for anyone who might be attempting to sleep (miraculously, the grandsons were worn out enough with play to sleep through everything), kids riding bikes and calling back and forth and most amazing, for some reason they ran a drill several times and also did some hammering. Husband requested both this group and the party to quiet down some; when only very temporary and limited success, he tried calling office and also driving over and knocking on doors - no response. This place is way out there and if something like this happens, I guess you're on your own. If anyone made rounds to monitor the situation, we didn't know about it and nothing was accomplished. Other noise included guys from the other end of the campground yelling to make echoes in the valley. Fairly quiet began by 2 a.m. with more scattered noice afterward such as running an apparently diesel truck for 15 minutes nearby. The husband is partly deaf in one ear and got a fairly reasonable amount of sleep by sleeping on his good ear. I drifted off for maybe a half hour or so right before dawn; crack of dawn was greeted by someone hammering and I gave up. Restrooms/toilet stalls not too bad though shower stall I used had a total of 14 spiders - I've camped all over the U.S. and more and realize it's normal to see some critters in a campground bathroom but apparently they don't regularly do something about them to keep the population in check. As for the noise/blatantly inconsiderate behavior of many of the other campers, I have only one experience years back to begin to compare this to and that was from one campsite of rowdies who were ordered to straighten up immediately or get out by management after complaints. Maybe it was an off night for this campground but we will definitely never be back or recommend it to family or friends.
