“Like Visiting Family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

The Nostalgia Inn is a charming place in a beautiful location, literally across the street from Pipestem State Park. The rooms are spacious and clean, the hosts very friendly - we enjoyed a cocktail with them on the front porch. In fact, it felt as if we were visiting family, as we chatted with our hosts in the kitchen as breakfast was being prepared. It's a sprawling place, and we were the only visitors there, as the first week in May is pre-season, so we were able to explore the antiques, old photographs, and other decorations. We stayed two nights, and the breakfasts were both excellent. Other touches we enjoyed were the complimentary bottle of wine on our arrival, the abundant birds on the property, and the adjoining restaurant that is part of the family business.

The only reason we awarded 4 stars instead of 5 is that the building might have profited from some renovation. But on the other hand, renovation might have taken away from the old fashioned flavor and charm. For example, my wife spent some time photographing the chickadees living in an exterior wall where they had displaced a knot, and other birds were living in other exterior walls. Charming, but . . .. Everything worked fine, but it sometimes felt a little tired. But still - we'd stay there again if we were in the area.

Room Tip: We stayed in a two-bedroom suite, available if you want. Not all rooms have TV (ask if it's impo...

We were a little concerned reserving two nights in a place with so few reviews but it was a wonderful stay. It is not a historic place and the rooms were originally a sales office used for selling nearby RV lots but the present owner converted the space to six large and comfortable clean modern rooms.

The owners were wonderful to talk to and we spent an evening with a glass of wine sharing stories. Breakfast each morning was great.

The place is just outside the entrance to Pipestem Park.

We'd stay again in an instant if we ever come back to the area.

Our visits included stays in the Mingo and McDowell Suites…

Quick facts:
1. Website < http://www.nostalgiainn.com/>
2. If you access the Inn by turning onto the street/driveway directly across from the Pipestem Resort State Park turnoff…hug the left side of the gravel drive or you will end up in the trailer park area
3. Parking available for easy access to Inn
4. Spacious rooms named after surrounding counties in West Virginia and contain memorabilia from those counties
5. Full of fun art pieces and collections galore to browse
6. Breakfast was served at 0900 in their large dining room (coffee was perking and available for sipping by 0800)
7. There was always a pound cake available to nibble.
8. cash/checks/credit card
9. Lunch and Dinner options in the area: Brandon’s BBQ (run by their son) is just steps away. Dairy Queen (DQ) is a favorite for hot dogs, chili and ice cream in the area and has an amazing view of the Lake…Other venues in the area that were recommended, but we did not have time to try: Mountain Creek Lodge at Pipestem Resort and the Oak Supper Club
10. A few sites to see in the area: Pipestem Resort State Park; Bluestone State Park; Sandstone Falls; Town of Hinton; and New River Gorge area

Liked: the Inn Keepers! There is so much to do in the area and the Inn is such a warm inviting place to come home to in the evenings. We had only planned to stay one night, but changed our plans to return several days later and do more of the wonderful things in the area and stay in this welcoming Inn.

Things that might matter to others…Sound did travel through the walls a bit; this was not a deal breaker for me. Breakfast, while delicious and plentiful might not be as ‘gourmet’ as some expect from B&Bs in general.

Wish I had: tried the nearby SPA…think I needed more like a week in the area!!!

My friend and I recently stayed at the Nostalgia Inn for the weekend. It was an absolutely beautiful place to get away and relax. Ellie and Jim were wonderful, breakfast delicious, the inn charming. There was lemon pound cake available when we arrived and our gracious hosts were more than happy to share a glass of wine or cup of tea with us. The antiques and decor definitely make the place feel charming and there's a large common room, pool table, etc. Being an animal lover I also enjoyed meeting the inn felines outside. One of the great things about a bed and breakfast is also getting to interact with the other guests at breakfast and we had excellent company at the table.

The area is beautiful though remote and the park across the street has a wide variety of activities (hiking, horseback riding, lodge, restaurants, etc.). The spa and the restaurant near the inn are also excellent.

This B & B is across the road from a State Park. It is set in the woods, has WiFi but spotty cell phone service (THAT is a PLUS!) - the almost in the title. It will be hard to find a more comfortable place to stay - large rooms, comfortable beds, desks, all the amenities in the bathrooms, and wonderfully spacious common areas - several of them. There is a restaurant across from the inn (Brandon's - closed Monday and Tuesday) and the wonderful Pipestem Spa on the property but not IN the inn. Have it all in one package - back to nature, fine dining, and a day spa to get the luxury of pampering all in one trip!

Jim and Ellie were perfect hosts! My sister-in-law and I met at the Nostalgia Inn (a halfway point for us) for a one night getaway. The evening air was crisp, so Jim made a fire in the outdoor pit and we sipped our wine by the warmth of the fire as the sun set. Brandon's is just a short walk from the Inn, so we had dinner there (see separate review) and Jim had started a fire in the living room by the time we came back from dinner. The room was very spacious and clean. The 0900 breakfast was delicious - fruit, almond french toast and sausage patties - and excellent coffee. We are already discussing a return visit.

This was my first time at a Bed and Breakfast and what an experience! We were made to feel special from the moment we walked into the door. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room that was spotless and named after a county in West Virginia. The Host and Hostess, Jim and Ellie White are the nicest people you could ever meet. The Whites make you feel as if you are a favorite relative and the warmth is overwhelming. The breakfast that Jim and Ellie serve is outstanding, and leaves you wanting to stay more nights just to have another breakfast! The Inn is located across the street from Brandon's Restaurant and this is one place you must try! The food is great and the staff is so friendly and the service is wonderful... There is a SPA located within two minutes of the Inn that offers the best treatments you could imagine. What a Inn, you have the best place to stay, excellent food from the Inn and Brandon's and a luxurious SPA just a minute or two away. The Park is located across the street from the Inn and you can do so much there from Golf, Tennis, and Hiking. Do your self a favor and check this place out, I am glad that I did........I am counting the days until I can get back there!!!!!
