My wife and I and friends have rafted with ACE on-and-off for years on both the Gauley and New Rivers. I took my 13 year old daughter for her fourth trip to ACE a couple of weeks ago. We did the Saturday night zipline tour, which was fantastic. The "supermoon" was out, which made for some spectacular night-time views, and the guides were great. This was her third zipline trip with ACE...she's quite the little adrenaline junkie. We rafted the Lower New with Bear as our trip leader and Archie as our guide, and they were both terrific. ACE has always done a great job training their guides. The water was very high for mid-August, which made the trip even more exciting than usual. Every year when we return to ACE, you can see some type of new facility or major improvement. The covered outdoor dining area is a nice new touch, so is the expanded beach, a couple of new "big toys" on the lake, the big movie tent, etc. I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with one of the owners, Ernie, who seems like a great guy, and is obviously an excellent businessman. The place is first-class. They are the dominant outfitter in the area for good reason. I think their prices for pretty much everything except the trip photos are very reasonable...gotta love those $1 beers at the trip tent. :-) We will definitely be going back ASAP.
