“Spur of the moment stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

Driving from Indiana from Thanksgiving with family to Virginia Beach, we saw the signs for the hotel/casino. Stopped with the intention to stay just one night and ended up staying 2! We splurged and got the executive suite and loved it! Had a full size Jacuzzi and great room layout. The bed was great also. Keurig coffee was a big plus! We enjoyed the free breakfast both mornings. Read some reviews that spoke of the noise heard in the rooms, maybe got lucky, but we had no problem with outside noise.
We loved the casino, we are not really gamblers so the size and what was offered was just fine with us. Met a lot of people while playing and everyone was very friendly. I played blackjack for the first time and the dealer and other players were great! All offering me tips on playing and cheering each other on.
We ate at both buffets and enjoyed them both, also the café in the casino. All the employees with saw were so very friendly!!! This impressed me so much.
We woke up to leave and our battery was dead. The valet/ doorman Chris was so very helpful and friendly. He and the front desk arranged for someone from the hotel to take my husband to Walmart to get a battery and helped my husband put it in. What better service could we have gotten? They had already arranged for a room for us, in case we had to stay over.
It is about a 6 hr drive from us and we will be back!!!! Thinking of New Years!!!

Stayed overnight on our vacation, they had enough slots to play, the rooms were very nice and the breakfast was very good. The buffet wasn't the greatest in the casino, but it was late and a week night..Nice place.

This is a newer hotel, attached to a casino that has dog racing as well. The rooms are nice, excellent FREE hot breakfast, made to order. Says in 'Nitro', but, actually in Cross Lanes, WV. Right next to a strip mall, good for shopping.

My visit was to the casino only and not the hotel. The casino was conveniently located to the interstate and not difficult to find. Everything was clean and thankfully smoke free! I found the same or similar machines to most casinos I have visited so it was nice to see some old standbys. Unfortunately it seemed that the machines were pretty tight. You earn points toward something but it was never really explained to me what the points were for. It was nice of the casino to give a $10 bonus just for signing up for a players card. I must say that the food was great at the restaurants located around the casino floor. All in all, even though I only lost money here, it was a pretty good time.

We spent a total of eight nights there while in the area for a wedding. Due to a late flight and meeting up with friends, we did not check in until 2:30 AM. Out check in was quick and thorough, Dana explained all the things to be aware of with the refreshment refrigerator, the buffet breakfast and the Casino adjacent to the hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and even had a Keurig coffee maker! It was at the breakfast buffet in the morning we met a wonderful employee. By the end of our stay we had nicknamed her Dorthy Hustle for her work ethic and her attention to our comfort. The doorman and the valet parking attendant was always friendly and courteous. As a matter of fact, all the employees seemed to be enjoying their job and were available at a moments notice to accommodate our needs. We ate at the casino buffet for dinner and found the food to be freshly prepared and nicely cooked. It was not the kind of buffet food that is over cooked and a dark, limp unappetizing offering at some roadside buffets. The selections reflected Cajun roots and were appetizing and cooked fresh. We did not get to see the races due to the rainstorms in the area on the evening we were available. All in all, we had a pleasant stay and will book a room the next time we are in the area.

The setting welcomes you to an enjoyable experience. The staff at the Hotel and Casino are above wonderful. The entire two days brought only happy helpful staff. ( not sure how they got ALL great people). The Hotel is a nice place with a small pool and hot tub. Good breakfast area with average choices. The down side of the Hotel is the sound transfer; I was near the Laundry and had to hear and feel the machines running until 11:35 PM. The Interstate is at least 500 yards away but it sounded like it came next to my room. Conversation in the hallway made me believe my door was OPEN.. VERY POOR.. If you like a small Casino this is a good one. Very clean, smoke free and a lot of room to move around. Three places to get a bit to eat and the Buffet is only $10.00 for dinner! There is a Dog racing track also that has a dinning area while you watch your $$ run around the track.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Interstate side of the building to avoid truck noise.

I’d like to start out with the positive. By far your strongest plus
are your hotel employees. My first interaction was on the phone when
I made the reservations, very friendly service. Checking in was also
a very positive experience, the lady at the counter was very friendly
and helpful; and the cleaning crew was friendly as well. But the two
best hotel employees I interacted with were the guy that helps with
the luggage and the lady that cleans up the dining room tables and
refreshes some of the breakfast items. It’s really a shame that in the
two days I had breakfast that no one was helping that poor lady. She
was literally running to refresh coffee and clean up the tables; I’m
curious how many people you will have to hire in order to replace her
if she leaves.

Aside from the fact that no one helps that lady clean up the dining
room, my only hotel complaint is that the walls are ridiculously thin.
When not deployed as an Army Reservist I work at a consulting company
and I travel every week unless I’m on vacation. I have never stayed
at a hotel with walls as thin as yours.

The casino was a very negative experience because of blatant racism
shown by one of your employees at the craps table (everyone else was
really nice). His name was Jay, and he was tall and thin (there was
more than one Jay). He made racist comments while talking to one of
the players. The first incident was when he was telling a player
about a blackjack or poker game that he was a player in. He
complained that another player came in and ruined the game and kept on
referring to this person as the “damn Asian” guy. Being half Asian I
felt like saying something to him but I didn’t want to create a scene
and ruin the night for everyone. When he was saying this I thought it
was disgusting but gave him the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t
know I was part Asian. A little bit later a black male joined the
table and talking to the same customer he brought up a story of how
some “black guy” didn’t know how to play craps. He kept on talking
about the “black guy” and it was then that I realized that he made it
a point to talk about this in front of the black player, just as he
made it a point to talk about the “damn Asian” in front of me. I
regret not saying anything to him because I guarantee you that I’ve
done more for this country than he has. I sure didn’t see him by my
side when I was in one of my Iraq tours (2005-06, 200-08) or my recent
tour in Afghanistan (2012-13).
