“WARNING ! ! ! ! THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF ! ! ! BEWARE ! ! !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011

My husband had to stay here for a few months while he was out of town working. I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone unless your just looking for an overnight stay. It's like paying for a night at the Hilton but getting The Red Roof Inn instead. If you plan on staying here for a week or longer i suggest you try and pay with cash because they will RIP U OFF they over charge your card for more than what they are suppose to. I had to call them countless times because they kept our checking account jacked up. Oh and the WIFI and CELL service DOES NOT pick up in all areas of the hotel. THIS PLACE SUCKS BEWARE ! ! !

If this place is a rip off then apparently they will not stay here for a few months, not even a few days. Our prices never change no matter summer or winter, peak season or off season. Rates are mentioned at the time of reservation and again printed on the registration card, nothing hidden. We give discounts for corporate guests, workers, government, church, funeral, hospitals, industrial plants, AAA, AARP, etc. There is no “rip off” anywhere!
Every hotel gets a hold on the credit card for the number of nights guest plans to stay so at the time of check out the amount due can be charged to that hold and rest of the hold amount is released to the guest before we get our money credited to our account. Nobody needs to call to get the hold released because it is automatic put on and automatic released, all from computer to computer.
Off course we do not charge like Hilton but provide everything what Hilton provides even Red Roof Inn charges more than us for the exterior corridor motels where we are in-door secure always with all the amenities and facilities one can think of, including cozy swimming pool, bubbling spa, free HSIA, free local calls, free continental breakfast.
Nobody can be ripped off no matter paying by credit card, debit card, or cash. Not a single dime is ever over charged, everything is declared up front and credit card holder can always dispute the charges if wrong.
WIFI pick up depends on personal laptops. If lot of cookies already there it will not connect everywhere unless very close to the router. We absolutely have no problem with WIFI connections. We have two transmitters downstairs on each end of the hallway and two upstairs in the same way and every guest gets connected to the closest possible transmitter where there are maximum signals with no problems and it is secure because we provide passwords to access.

The Inn is under new management, having left the American Host Chain(?). The room with two queen beds was of average size and quality and had the usual amenities ( coffee maker, ironing board, hair dryer etc.) . Sheets, towels and blankets were well used but clean although one pillow had blood stains underneath the cover which the management changed as soon as we notified them. A continental breakfast was available each morning. The Inn has an indoor pool and wireless internet and overlooks one of the locks on the Ohio River. All in all, this motel is probably the best of several in the New Martinsville area.

Room Tip: Recommend a second floor room overlooking the Ohio River.

I have been working in the area for about 2 months and if there were another option on hotels that bill companies directly then trust me I would NOT stay at this hotel!! A couple of the front desk staff are friendly and helpful, but most are not! The rooms are never what I feel constitute being "clean". By that I mean I have been put in a different room almost every week I have stayed there and have yet to go in a room and actually feel like it has been properly cleaned by housekeeping! This is a list of many things I have encountered: dried vomit down the sides of beds (in at least 3 different rooms), cigarette ashes on the ac unit and night stand in nonsmoking rooms, condom wrappers by the night stand, gum/ candy wrappers/ lent/ chunks of dirt/ cigarette butts on the floor. Almost every room is covered in dust and has dust bunnies dangling from the ceiling. They over charge for their rooms because there are so few options on staying in the town- that they feel they can! The "exercise area" is old wore out machines sitting in a hallway. They have an indoor pool and hot tub, but as unclean as the rooms are I refuse to use them because i doubt they are treated properly. There are signs everywhere telling workers to clean boots before entering- as if that is their greatest cleanliness problem- sorry to tell them but its not! The upstairs hallway has weak spots in the floors, as do the stairs going to the upper rooms. The trash is only dumped out of the bags in the trash cans in the rooms, the bags are not changed! Heaven forbid you ask for an extra towel, pillow, wash cloth, hand towel, box of tissues, or roll of toilet paper because first they act as tho you asking is a crime- and second you will never get it!! You couldn't pay me to drink from the scuzzy looking coffee pots! The hair dryers are yellowed and sticky, but it would take too much effort to clean them. I turn the beds back every stay expecting to find bed bugs or other creepy crawlies and Lysol has become my best friend! As I say unless you are as unfortunate as I am and have NO other choice- do NOT stay there!!!!

We have dozens of companies whom we bill directly for their workers and nobody will stay here for two months if this place has everything which is mentioned in this review. If you read it from top to bottom, you cannot think of anything else which could possibly be wrong and not mentioned in this review. In other words there is nothing good here but the reviewer still stayed for two long months here!
This was apparently a personal grudge review. Reviewer always wanted a non-smoking room and always smoked in that non-smoking room. We have a “smoking in non-smoking rooms” fine policy, declared on the registration card. Reviewer was fined few times and her company made her pay for that when we billed them for that, which she did not like but won’t stop violating our policy.
One time she had an emergency and she left the room about 7PM but asked us not to charge for that night, which we declined because room could not have been cleaned at that time to be sold to someone. The check-out time was 12 noon and of course she was upset about this as well because she got in trouble with her company for that.
After smoking in a non-smoking room the reviewer always used to call the front desk that she found ashes on the AC unit or cigarette butts in the rooms which housekeepers knew very well there was none before she checked in.
We are AAA approved, how the inspectors will miss those so called “dust bunnies” dangling. We also get inspected by the Franchisor as well as by the loaning bank representatives and also by the Health Department. City building inspector also checks the hotel as well as the fire chief and fire marshal every so often. It will tell clearly that there is nothing wrong anywhere in the hotel or we would have been shut down.
Our rates are given up front so there is no question of over charge. We even give discounts for direct bill companies with a cheaper rate. The exercise machines are in the pool area and swimming pool inspector never finds anything wrong with the composition of the chemicals, temperature, and cleanliness of the pool area. Matter of fact the reviewer used the spa on a daily basis, every single evening. You can never ever dump a bag into the trash barrel because a 7-micron plastic liner will pop and fall right away, it has no strength or grip to the trash can.
We have extra pillows in every room on top of the luggage rack, extra two sets of towels are in the dresser drawer of every room. Enough bath towels, wash cloths, and hand towels are provided on the bathroom rack as well as the vanity rack, and still extras are given if needed with no question asked.
We provide 100% Columbian coffee and decaf with a coffee pot for 4 cups which are cleaned washed and dried every day in every room. At least one thing the reviewer confirmed that even by flipping the beds she did not find any creepy crawlies or bed bugs. These were all personal issues which boiled down to this review. It triggered when we provided 3 glass ash trays to the reviewer and next morning she wanted more and we declined.

We stayed here for 5 nights. Please don't expect Hampton Inn, etc. If you have to have a place to stay in the area, this one is the nicest. Pool area and hot tub were nice, however they sell pool passes to local residents and as soon as school let out, it was bombarded with kids. The breakfast consisted of 3 cereal choices and a few individually wrapped donuts, etc. OK. You are walking distance to Bob Evans and McDonalds if you want a hot breakfast. It appeared to be full capacity each night, I think a lot of well diggers and other workers stay here. I'll try to attach a picture from the front door addressing dirty boots. It's too funny. Don't plan to exercise inside unless you don't mind exercising in the hallway. Never seen a treadmill in a hall before. Overall it appeared to be clean but it is an older motel that smells like smoke. The staff was always nice, but from listening to conversations, the communication between owner and staff is not good. We never saw the owner. The "Choo Choo restaurant" is a cute cozy little restaurant opened 24 hours a day.

We have 6 types of wrapped donuts, 4 types of cereals, mini muffins, white and wheat bread, English muffins, 4 types of bagels and lots of kids favorite snacks in the breakfast including regular and decaf coffee, regular and decaf hot tea, 3 flavored cappuccino machine, 2 types of juices, spring water, 3 types of fruits, 3 types of oatmeal packets, honey and lemon packets, 3 types of coffee creamers, and sometime cake slices, this is all part of our continental breakfast. If still not enough, then guests always can walk 50 yards to McDonald’s or 100 yards to Bob Evans to get hot breakfast.
Yes we do have signs for dirty boots, that says “Wash your boots with the hose provided by us right by the back door” and everyone appreciates that. There are a lot of oil workers around who always have muddy boots but we still shampoo the hallways every month and guest rooms as needed but must be at least one time within 2 months. No we do not sell pool passes to the school kids, they were the ball team staying in the hotel for a tournament. Pool is only for guests of the hotel besides some elderly members, only a few who come for water therapy for an hour or so.
Exercise machines are in the pool area and we have signs on every entrance before guest enters the hotel for not smoking anywhere in the hotel unless in their own smoking rooms which are only 10 out of 60. It is not that old hotel either, built in late 90’s, the newest one in this town having all the facilities which a newer hotel has anywhere.

Relatively unfriendly staff, the halls reeked of cigarette smoke, the beds were incredibly uncomfortable p, the in room phone was covered in gunk. One of the electrical sockets appeared to have caught on fire at one point, yet still had a lamp plugged into it. The shower was clean but looked gross with mold stains. The only plus was the indoor pool. Continental breakfast had days old food.

If you read all the reviews, most of them say “friendly staff” and even some of the bad reviews agree to that friendliness. Workers staying in other hotels always tell us that this is the friendliest hotel they have ever stayed. They say front desk staff in other hotels don’t even talk to them, check them in and turn around or hide in the back. Not here, we have 24 hour front desk service and we do not believe on the “auto answer” or “answering machine” or “voice mail”. Every call is answered on a personal live basis, we have 13 phone lines and 3 hold buttons so we never miss any call and everyone goes through for all incoming and for all outgoing calls here.
If someone smokes in the hallway, what we supposed to do? We have signs all over for no smoking anywhere except their smoking rooms but we cannot be the police men and cannot implement our policies to those who do not listen. We can just “request” as we are in a hospitality business.
All beds have Serta cushion mattresses which are made for the hotels with their specific needs to all the guests. They cannot be very soft or cannot be very firm so they should satisfy every guest. Of course hotel bed is not a substitute of home bed. Our phones are cleaned every day with disinfectant Lysol all over, even if room is stay over. Electrical sockets are the cheapest thing in electrical market. We replace them as soon as we find out there is a problem. There are no molds or stains in the bathrooms as we use acidic bathroom cleaners. Shower cannot be declared clean if there are mold stains there. Our breakfast comes from the freezer every night, gets thawed and served fresh, never ever we provide a stale or days old food. No hotel can, it is a big liability.

I made reservations, spoke personally to the desk clerk asking for 1st floor due to bad knee and no elevator, reserved with travel card and was assured that I had a non-smoking 1st floor room.
Arrived, they had my slip already out with 1st floor room marked out and a 2nd floor room instead.
Manager said only a room could be guaranteed not the type of room and they were filled up. Not much choice of other places to stay, yet.

We had a non-smoking room with 2 beds on the first floor reserved for them and that was the only room which was supposed to be available in that type downstairs as per reservation screen on that particular day because the guest in that type of room was supposed to check out making the room vacant and available for them to take.
Unfortunately the guest who was staying in that type of room extended his stay and left his belongings in the room and left for work! We had no choice but to extend that guest’s stay in that room and not to check him out. We could not move all his scattered belongings in the room to storage and we tried calling several times to his cell phone with no answer.
That left us with only one choice to change their room of the same type but on the second floor. We just had no option. We extended a discount for their inconvenience but no fault of ours. They had a choice of not staying on second floor and we were willing to cancel their reservation without any penalty or charges but they decided to stay.
If you book a reservation thru “price line”, their policy says clearly that they guarantee a room but not the type and guest has to call the hotel to get the right type but that was not their case. They called us directly that is why they got the room of the type they asked for. We did nothing wrong.

The guy who runs this place is rude. The place smells aweful, the pool is tiny and the internet is not FREE the only thing that was ok was the breakfast but how can you screw up cold cereal? And the fitness center is a joke a bike and a tread mill and they aren't in the best shape. The room was dirty and the bedspred had burns in it, the carpet in the hall are all worn wall paper peeling off the whole place is shabby. Even some of the front desk staff were unkempt. There is nothing like being checked in late at night after a long drive by some one with really bad B.O I will never stay there again I could pay less to stay in the same town sure the other place dont have a pool...but if it rains there are sure to be some puddles most of which might be deeper then the pool at the Amerihost

Both the managers are ladies, there is no guy who runs this place, do not know whom they are mixing up with. The pool is 20,000 gallons of water indoor pool and spa is 5000 gallon water indoor spa. Nobody ever complained that this is a tiny pool, matter of fact it is bigger than most of the hotels what they have.
Do not understand about the “awful smell”. No smell belongs to the hotel but somebody is warming some smelly foods in their microwaves in their rooms, of course you can smell it for some time in the hallway and apparently we have no control on it. That is why we air fresh the hallways every 2 hours, all day. Yes internet is free and it is 6 meg download and 3 meg upload high speed internet.
Our breakfast is a continental breakfast not a full breakfast, guest are welcome to warm their milk for their cereals, we have provided a microwave in the dining area. We do not have a fitness center per say. Three exercise equipment are in the pool area, purchased them just last year. Some guests do burn the bedspreads with their smoking but we remove them as soon as we find out.
We glue the wallpaper as soon as they lose their grip which happens everywhere where wallpaper is glued. The last few remarks really make us laugh, where the reviewer compared the indoor warm and cozy pool to a puddle which is made by rain!
