“Most Terrible Hotel Ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2011

This hotel was so terrible that we didn't even spend the night. The room smelled very damp and gross, and it was very poorly lit. Also, the pool was cold and cloudy. And to top it all off, when we left 20 minutes later, there was someone stuck inside the elevator. If you are looking into hotels, this IS NOT the one to choose. You might want to check into the Fairfield Inn and Suites instead. It is SO MUCH better!!!

If you're considering staying at this hotel, don't, look at other options. My son is a student at WVU and I've stayed at a lot of the hotels in Morgantown. I would rate this as the worst one that I've stayed in. Bed bugs, horrible smells, noisy, and the manager on duty when I checked out was condescending. I wish that I'd read the reviews on this site before I booked because I could have avoided a horrible experience. Please do not stay here unless you have no other option and realize that most of the people that stay here have a bad experience !! I wrote to Best Western corporate and complained, but never heard back. Guess they don't care either.

OVerall this is a decent place to stay. Nothing highly special or very poor comes to mind.

The service was good as was the quality of the rooms as well.

Pool was chilly!

Stale odor in the hallways. Creepy people standing outside. And, blood on the comforter. This all made for a less than enjoyable evening.

currently here at the hotel... Thank goodness they have safety locks on the doors....someone just put a key in my door and opened it...... I called the front desk and was told.......it was the owners family...they have mastter keys to the rooms and were looking for one to stay in.......So i guess if the safety lock was not on they would have just come in and made themselves at home....... NIce to know that while you are out of your room that there is someone out there with a master key to just come in your room whenever they want to....... WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN

We were driving from central Ohio to D.C. in November of 2010 with a late evening start. We wanted to stay about halfway. This hotel fit the bill. Reviews on other sites were much better - I hadn't seen this site before we went and I'm glad I didn't.

The decor is very up to date if you like a modern style. The desk staff was very friendly and helpful as was the woman running the breakfast bar. Our room was very clean and very comfortable. I usually have trouble sleeping in a new bed the first night in it. I had no problem with that bed. TVs in the rooms are nice flat screen LCDs with good reception. You get a "free" newspaper delivered to your door in the morning. The continental breakfast buffet actually had quite a lot to offer.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our only complaint would be price. Even with a small discount our room was $130+. It's the Best Western - a value chain - for goodness sake and it's in the hills of West Virginia. We paid less for our room in a hotel 2 blocks from the National Mall in D.C. the next night which had a kitchenette! We would have stayed elsewhere for less had any of the other places we looked at been as convienent to our route and offered breakfast.

We arrived at this hotel after a long tiring day of driving (10 Hours) with our 3 young children, and were disappointed from the moment we arrived. We had a reservation for a Non-smoking room with 2 double beds and we were given a room with 1 king-sized bed in a smoking section of the hotel. Our children had to hold their noses in the hallways as the odour of smoke pervaded the space. It also apperared dirty and run-down. For some reason, they put the Non-smoking rooms right across from the Smoking ones. The elevator also smelled gross - it had the the odour of cigarettes and urine. Regardless of that, we had returned to the front desk, and advised them that we required the 2 beds for our family. The clerk's response was that we had requested the king-size bed, (which was inaccurate as we had specifically requested a room with 2 beds), and that they had no other rooms as they were completely full with guests from the Special Olympics. She then offered us a Smoking room with 2 double beds, so we thought we`d try it out (it was late, we were all exhausted and the kids just wanted to go to sleep). As soon as we walked in, we almost immediately turned around and walked out - there was absolutely no way we could stay with the intense smell of smoke. Again we had returned to the front desk, looking for some sort of solution as we really didn`t know what to do or where to go. To her credit, the young lady was extremely apologetic and was empathically trying to assist us. She had offered us a refund and had called the Quality Inn (also owned by the same owner) to see if they could accommodate us with a room as they apparently had availability. Honestly, she was the only good thing about this hotel as she seemed to try her best to rectify the situation.

I also wanted to mention that we were not the only ones that were in this position, as I happened to overhear her telling another lady at the front desk the exact same thing (i.e. that she would offer her a refund, and that she could use it at the Quality Inn down the street)... Something seemed odd about the `coincidence' - we`d suspected that our reserved rooms had been given away to other guests.

At that point, we decided to go to the Quality Inn as we had no other choice. Although it was slightly cheaper, it seemed we had gone from bad to worse. My only 2 criteria for staying in a hotel is that it be clean and safe, and this seemed just as bad as the 'Worst Western'.

Believe it or not, it was after 10:00 pm with 3 little ones begging to stay so they could sleep, and we decided we`d be better off driving all the way home (a 6-hour trip) that night than stay at either one of those locations. Thankfully, in the pitch black of night, we made a wrong turn and ended up at another hotel (NOT a Best Western) with a completely opposite experience. They provided a warm welcome, very friendly staff who helped us get settled, along with sparkling clean and safe-looking facilities. To be honest (although very frustrating at the time), I was glad they had given away our reservation!

Unless you don`t mind offensive odours, and the possibility of having your reservation given away to someone else, I would not recommend this hotel... it's not worth it. This experience at the 'Worst Western' was a bad experience and unfortunately we lost all faith in this chain of hotels because of it.
