“pleasant country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Situated amongst pleasant countryside this well run pub offers a wide choice of food and beers,
Ample parking , a large dining area and polite staff make this a veyr good place to eat. Booking is advisable at weekends and evenings whilst lunchtimes can be quiet. Food is reasonably priced and well presented.

“A favourite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

I have been several times recently and unlike the last review, it is much better than I remembered.
The food was really good, very friendly and helpful staff and the added bonus of being able to purchase eggs, fruit and vegetables locally grown. Will keep going there! Thank you for a lovely lunch today.

“Lovely surroundings and delicious, hearty food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

I've been to the Countryman Inn three times in recent weeks as it is a couple of miles from my office and it's become a favourite pub of mine.

It's set in lovely countryside surrounded by fields which is perfect for sitting outside on a sunny day, but the inside is also really nice with a lovely fresh produce section near the bar selling local vegetables, chutneys, etc - a really nice touch.

I've eaten the steak sandwich, a Sunday beef roast and a sausage sandwich and have been very happy with all the food - the sausage sandwich was one of the nicest I've ever had, really good quality sausages!

The service is slightly slower on a sunny day, but that's to be expected as it becomes really busy with people enjoying the beer garden, not a problem at all.

Definitely recommend!

“Okay … but not as good as I remember.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

This was a last minute choice for lunch and is somewhere we have used in the past – probably not for about 5 years though. I have to say the meal wasn't as good as my recollection but, having said that, there was nothing ‘wrong’ with it. Service was a little slow but then it was very busy - a sunny day with a lot of people using the garden. A traditional pub grub restaurant menu plus a ‘today’s fish’ blackboard and a small 2 or 3 course set – so a really good choice and reasonably priced. Portions were huge – so much so that we had no room for a pud. Good value but nothing really to tempt us back for a meal - better pub grub nearer to home; would happily drop in for a sandwich/baguette and a pint if passing.

We are just a country pub
That always serves fantastic grub
We’re not fine dining wanna be’s
Or even snobby ‘look at me’s’

We serve old fashioned comfort food
And do our best to fit your mood
try home grown veg with pie and mash
or free range eggs with corned beef hash

Mum’s roly poly and suet pud
and loads of goodies that’s really good
there’s fresh cooked fish from family boats
and creamy cheese from local goats

we have a friendly locals bar
and a garden that stretches far
The building is old and creaky
And the floorboards sometimes squeaky

So keep in mind the context
just talk to us, and don’t get vexed
remember that we are the pub
that’s like a favourite grannies hug

we’re not pretentious or pristine
but what you get is what you’ve seen

Please…try to judge us on what we are… And not what you want us to be

A real Pub with real Food..

“Lovely location and great food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We have eaten here a couple of times and cannot really fault the food - our burgers were delicious! However, when we arrived at around 12.30 on Saturday lunchtime, we went out into the garden and every single ashtray was full of cigarette ends, presumably from the night before. Surely the first thing a landlord/lady should do before opening is to check that everything is cleaned up from the night before! Not a very good welcome. Also, the condition of the garden furniture left a lot to be desired. There were nails sticking out of the rotting bench at our table and a large number of the parasols were old and ripped. This pub could do with a little bit of attention.
