“Average Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

This hotel was decent, nothing spectacular. The person at the front desk the first night of check in was very nonchalant. This hotel needs some plumbing work, the walls are paper thin. We could here the people next door talking as if they were sitting right next to us. The gym at the hotel was under renovation, so they gave us a voucher for the Clarion in Sheperdstown, WV. We were so impressed with the Clarion, that the next time we will be staying there. We only stayed at the Comfort Suite for two nights.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

I just saw the other review for March 11th. We stayed the same night and didn't have any problems with "stink bugs." No bugs at all...which is always a positive thing! There were some stray cats right outside the door that look like they are being fed by the staff. Not sure that's a great idea. The fitness room was being painted. Overall, the hotel was good, room/bathroom clean, breakfast was adequate, staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd stay again. Only real drawback is the proximity to restaurants, there isn't really anything within walking distance, unless you consider "Sheetz's" a suitable place. (Where'd they come up with a name like that!?)

This hotel is beautiful and located in a woodsy area. But it has 2 major problems. First, it's remote and very difficult to find (particularly at night). When we arrived (on the night of March 9th) the lights on the "Comfort Suites" sign were off - and the surrounding area was so dark, we weren't sure if we'd found the right hotel when we first arrived. But worse than that, our room had a large number of stink bugs. There were probably about 30 of them crawling on the ceiling (This is the honest truth - no exaggeration). We told the clerk we needed to leave and to please cancel our reservation. She did - and without any problems. It was then that we read the small plastic coated sign at the check-in desk... It said, "Please excuse our uninvited guests..." (the stink bugs!!) Wow, what a shame. This hotel looked so nice on the outside, and the location could have been beautiful and quiet (once you found it), but those stink bugs were more than we could stand, and we had to leave immediately... You have to wonder, why can't management get an exterminator?

This Hotel is conveniently located only about 15-20 minutes from Charlestown Raceway. It's a clean hotel and the staff is very friendly and responsive. The rates are very reasonable and include breakfast. The breakfast staff was very good. Perfect for one or two nights.

Pros:
Bedding comfortable
Early check-in accommodated

Cons:
Musty odor in room
Loud "HUM" CONSTANTLY in room (bathroom floor VIBRATED!)
Subpar staff helpfulness
Struggling to get luggage cart through double front doors, staff standing at front
| desk "chatting" and did not offer to help by holding upon one set of doors.

Multiple room keys would not work on first attempt. Room lock was never inspected, merely
kept issuing keys that failed to work.

Room Tip: Steer clear of room 112...loud hum constantly and room has a musty odor.

We stayed here twice - once a few months ago for my now sister-in-law's bridal shower and just recently for their wedding. We chose Comfort Suites for their reasonable rates, location, and good reviews from previous guests. We were not dissapointed. It is in a relatively "remote" area (compared with other Martinsburg hotels close to I-81), but that's one of the things we liked about it. We felt really "safe" there, and road noise was not a problem (unlike many hotels located next to interstates). Also, it's right across the street from a Sheetz which was convenient when late night hunger called. The rooms were very clean and spacious enough. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The staff was very nice and welcoming. Breakfast was adequate - the standard bagels, cereal, yogurt, waffles, bacon/sausage, eggs, etc. One drawback was the lack of an elevator, which made for an inconvenient transition to and from our room with our luggage. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again when we visit again!

Comfort suites is my favorite chain, they rarely disappoint. This way isn't super exceptional, but it's comfortable and has all the amenities. I stayed here to be close to Harpers Ferry and some of the other historic towns in the area like Charles Town and Sheperdstown. Good amenities except the tiny mini fridge. Biggest problem here was I was parked in back and someone got into the back of my truck and stole some things. I'd probably not park in back again if I stayed here again.
