3 generations of my family stayed at this wonderful little gem for 3 nights in August. We were visting relatives in Hinton, and this spot gave us all the comforts of home.
We stayed in the River View unit. It is a 2 story home! The first floor had a 3/4 bath with a shower, washer/dryer, living room, big eating space and a wonderful kitchen. The second floor had two large bedrooms with a Jack and Jill bath.
The amazing thing was the price! We paid $125 a night for our stay. That's for the whole family, not per person! The cabin is around 1500 square feet, so there is plenty of room. There are porches on both the front and back of the cabin. We played horseshoes, badmitton and went canoeing. For our 25 year old daughter, this was nothing like she has ever done before. She loved it!
Everything was so relaxing and peaceful. We did decide to sleep with the windows closed the second night due to the trains going through. The a/c kept the noise out and we were comfortable sleeping.
It is important to bring your food and drinks with you, since the site is 4 1/2 miles from the main road. There is a little store down the road that only takes cash and prices are high, but it's there if you need it.
You must make the drive to Sandstone Falls, even farther down the road. We only had time to go when it was getting close to dusk, but it was still so beautiful. The lack of rain shows in the slower falls, but it is still breathtaking.
Please have a meal at Dairy Queen! We have been there for breakfast 2 years in a row. You order at the window then go out back to sit in a large room filled with windows looking out on the river. The view is so serene!
Also, take a drive to Pipestem Resort. We ate lunch at the main lodge, then took the tram down to the lower level to walk around. The scenery is spectacular. And if you have the chance, take a half day trip to the Greenbrier if you've never been there before. Our lunch there was at the golf club, just wonderful! We walked all over the resort and were just awed by the grandeur.
New River Falls Lodge is a wonderful, restful spot in a little corner of West Virginia. Whatever your reason for going, remember to take your time, slow down and just let it happen around you. If you're in a hurry, go elsewhere. If you want to read, fish, sleep, canoe, play horseshoes, you will be in heaven!
