“Heavenly retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Our family of four, including two teens, returned recently from a wonderful four-night stay at the Chestnut. The cabin was far more luxe than we expected, yet still homey and not overdone. Extremely clean, spacious and comfortable, with all the mod-cons that teens can't seem to live without (WiFi, flat-screen tvs, etc). We loved soaking in the hot tub, with lovely a lovely view of the field, after a day of rafting or hiking. The location is great, too. A short drive to rafting, hiking, Summersville Lake, Hawks's Nest State Park and Babcock State Park. Brenda's restaurant recommendations were terrific, too--don't miss the Secret Sandwich Society in Fayetteville! But the cabin was so comfortable that we were happy to eat in, too.

Pondering the old John Denver song, Take Me Home Country roads, I can`t help but think about our time at the Chestnut Cabin in Hico. Brenda and Fred present a sublime experience in this unbelievable cabin! Cabin is truly a misnomer in the best possible sense, as this wonderful house is spacious and amazingly beautiful. We`'ve spent the past two earth day weekends here, and plan to again in 2013. We can't wait to once again experience the amenities offered at the Chestnut, as well as the close proximity to great restaurants in Fayetteville. We highly recommend this cabin!!

My family (Dad, grandmother, 2 grown children, spouses & 3 children) stayed in the smaller of the two cabins. The cabin was terrific. The kitchen was equipped with utensils, dishes and a few extras. We spent a lot of time on the porches. The front porch is sunny while the back porch is screened in with a hot tub. We made a meal outside on the firepit one night and then ran around catching fireflies. The little pond on the property had tons of fish for the catching. It was quiet and beautiful.
It was not big enough for all of us, so we already have a reservation for the larger cabin for next time.

Our family of five stayed at the Chestnut cabin in Hico during the third week of August. The cabin is only three years old, and has every amenity imaginable. Three bedrooms, a loft with full size futon and two and a half bathrooms; almost as large as our home! The cabin shares fifty acres with another cabin and the owner's home, but feels very private. However, it is probably within two hundred yards of Route 60. Fortunately, the road is a scenic byway, so it isn't too heavily traveled, but some semi trucks and motorcycles could be heard. This did not keep us awake at night, or disturb us during our stay. The location is convenient to many outdoor activities including horseback riding and whitewater rafting. We rafted through Rivermen, going on the Upper New because of the age of our children. The trip and the staff were great, even lunch was better than we expected. For horseback riding, we used the stables at Babcock State Park. One of the owners, Sue, was very accommodating. If you like pizza, then definitely eat at Pies and Pints in nearby Fayetteville. There were some other recommended places, but the menus didn't suit most of the members of our family. The cabin is in close proximity to the New River Gorge Bridge and also Hawk's Nest State Park. We highly recommend the tram and jet boat rides for a unique ride into the gorge and a close-up view of the bridge. The state of West Virginia is beautiful and continues to be one of our favorite vacation destinations.
