“It was peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go. It was isolated, calm, and very low-key. There was adequate hiking, although by day 4 we ran out of local hikes. In inclement weather, you could use the Sports Complex, which includes pool, hot tub, fitness room, tennis, shuffleboard, and racquetball. It would have been nice to be able to use paddleboats on the lake, but they did not seem to have any. I would also suggest that they offer DVD rentals, because there really isn't anything to do in the evenings. Another suggestion would be to offer some fruit or bagels in the mornings, as it is a bit of a drive to get to a restaurant (other than the Club Grille, which has limited offerings).

“Spa is great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Do yourself a favor and check this place out. It is outside Berkeley Springs WV. It is on the grounds of a 'resort.' We rented a cabin for a week and I had a couple of treatments at the spa. Well worth it. Best reflexology ever!

“Fall Classic Golf Outing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

The Fall Classic is an annual golf event (Ryder Cup Format) that 8 guys play each year. Our host has a mountain home at The Woods and therefore it is very convenient for a number of us to stay in the Evergreen Cottages. The price is great, the rooms are deluxe and the location is wonderful. We play the final day at The Mountain View course on the property. The food is average at the Grille, but for a bunch of tired, old golfers it's very adequate ( breakfast is best). I highly recommend The Woods Resort for this kind of event. We have used it for the last 4-5 years.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great!

“Inexpensive isolated getaway with a breath taking view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. This was our second visit in two years. The Woods had a special, stay 2 nights get 3rd night free. Periodically they offer specials. This place is very isolated and in my opinion under used. My husand and I arrived on Friday and our car was the only car on the parking lot. It was like a ghost town. We assumed that maybe the people were at the clubhouse grill, so we went there to eat. There were not many people there, maybe because the food is not very good. The view from the restaurant overlooking the golf course is beautiful. We thought the food at the clubhouse grill might be better since they closed the restaurant that was located in the main building. That food was also not impressive. The food is typical grill food...beef patty hamburgers and chicken tenders and fries. Saturday and Sunday we drove to Martinsburg ( about a 15-20 minute drive) where there are a number of restaurants and shops ie Outback, Applebees, Cracker Barrel, Chick-Fil-A, McDonalds, Target, Walmart, etc. The rooms are lovely and spacious for the price. There is a fire place, a refrigerator and whirlpool tub in every room. Request a room facing the woods. It is beautiful! This resort is so relaxing and it has the feel of an adult summer camp because of the exterior wooden buildings and surrounding wooded area. There is also a very narrow deck, but it is big enough to sit a chair and watch nature! The golf courses Stony Lick and Mountain View are beautiful!!! In addition there is also an indoor pool and exercise room in the main building. This is also where you can purchase and receive spa treatments. There is a sliding board and playground outdoor for the children, and an outdoor pool. The resort is operating with a skeleton crew, so if there are any emergencies that require maintenance or cleaning you have to wait until the next day. We got such a good deal that this did not bother us. Also cudos to Terry at the front desk. She was very friendly and welcoming. When I left there I felt so relaxed. My husband and I plan on visiting there again very very soon. For the price it was more than worth it, and I have stayed at plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels and resorts. However, if you are high maintenance and have become spoiled with the 5 star hotels and resort this may not be the place for you.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the woods, otherwise your balcony and slide door will face the parking lot. It...

“excellent get away resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

this was the nicest place we stayed on our 2 week tour of the USA. cannot understand how anybody could not find this area enchanting. the lodges may look bland from outside but are fully equiped inside. the pools were excellent and towels were provided we have to thank the west virginia tourist desk on the state line for getting us a great deal here. the price was less than some very basic motels we stayed in.
