“Spa is great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Do yourself a favor and check this place out. It is outside Berkeley Springs WV. It is on the grounds of a 'resort.' We rented a cabin for a week and I had a couple of treatments at the spa. Well worth it. Best reflexology ever!

The Fall Classic is an annual golf event (Ryder Cup Format) that 8 guys play each year. Our host has a mountain home at The Woods and therefore it is very convenient for a number of us to stay in the Evergreen Cottages. The price is great, the rooms are deluxe and the location is wonderful. We play the final day at The Mountain View course on the property. The food is average at the Grille, but for a bunch of tired, old golfers it's very adequate ( breakfast is best). I highly recommend The Woods Resort for this kind of event. We have used it for the last 4-5 years.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. This was our second visit in two years. The Woods had a special, stay 2 nights get 3rd night free. Periodically they offer specials. This place is very isolated and in my opinion under used. My husand and I arrived on Friday and our car was the only car on the parking lot. It was like a ghost town. We assumed that maybe the people were at the clubhouse grill, so we went there to eat. There were not many people there, maybe because the food is not very good. The view from the restaurant overlooking the golf course is beautiful. We thought the food at the clubhouse grill might be better since they closed the restaurant that was located in the main building. That food was also not impressive. The food is typical grill food...beef patty hamburgers and chicken tenders and fries. Saturday and Sunday we drove to Martinsburg ( about a 15-20 minute drive) where there are a number of restaurants and shops ie Outback, Applebees, Cracker Barrel, Chick-Fil-A, McDonalds, Target, Walmart, etc. The rooms are lovely and spacious for the price. There is a fire place, a refrigerator and whirlpool tub in every room. Request a room facing the woods. It is beautiful! This resort is so relaxing and it has the feel of an adult summer camp because of the exterior wooden buildings and surrounding wooded area. There is also a very narrow deck, but it is big enough to sit a chair and watch nature! The golf courses Stony Lick and Mountain View are beautiful!!! In addition there is also an indoor pool and exercise room in the main building. This is also where you can purchase and receive spa treatments. There is a sliding board and playground outdoor for the children, and an outdoor pool. The resort is operating with a skeleton crew, so if there are any emergencies that require maintenance or cleaning you have to wait until the next day. We got such a good deal that this did not bother us. Also cudos to Terry at the front desk. She was very friendly and welcoming. When I left there I felt so relaxed. My husband and I plan on visiting there again very very soon. For the price it was more than worth it, and I have stayed at plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels and resorts. However, if you are high maintenance and have become spoiled with the 5 star hotels and resort this may not be the place for you.

Room Tip: Request a room facing the woods, otherwise your balcony and slide door will face the parking lot. It...

this was the nicest place we stayed on our 2 week tour of the USA. cannot understand how anybody could not find this area enchanting. the lodges may look bland from outside but are fully equiped inside. the pools were excellent and towels were provided we have to thank the west virginia tourist desk on the state line for getting us a great deal here. the price was less than some very basic motels we stayed in.

Stayed here for three nights while home in DC was without electricity. It was perfect. Great room, very light and clean. Nice, friendly staff. Great golf courses -- really terrific, especially for the price. Even worth going golfing here, if just for a day trip. Beautiful views, deep woods. A great find. Highly recommend it.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2012

We just stayed the weekend at The Woods. This was our third visit. We have been there in October, March and now late June. We love it. The only reason we didn't give it a rating of 5 is because there is no longer a full service restaurant on the property. It closed in March. While they do have a small restaurant at the golf course, the reviews I saw on Trip Advisor were not too great. We did not eat there. There was a refrigerator in our room, so we took sandwiches and snacks for our lunch the first day. The rooms are spacious and look just like the picture on their website. While they show some wear for their age, our room was very clean and acceptable.

The resort has nice outdoor tennis courts, one indoor court, two outdoor pools, one indoor pool, exercise room, spa and two golf courses (one mid-length). We hung out at the pool near the activity center. It was very nice. You need to take your own towels, snacks and drinks. The other pool is by the golf course 2 miles up the road. It looked great too. We played the full length golf course. It was in great shape. We have played the smaller course in the past too. Both are fun.

All the staff we had contact with were very attentive and nice.

We went into Berkeley Springs (15 min drive on Rt.9) for dinner. We ate at the Ambrae House. The food was awesome! We arrived after 9 pm and they still served us. They also had live music on the deck.

On Sunday we ate at the Country Roads Restaurant along Rt 9 (approx. 3 miles from the resort). It was not spectacular but decent enough that we would go back. It is the closest alternative to the restaurant at the golf course. The food was average, served hot and we had good service.

We will definitely go back to The Woods again. The biggest drawback is the closed full service restaurant. They are hoping to sell it, so maybe someday there will be one open again.

Room Tip: For families with small children, ask for the units closest to the playground.

The place is a little run down and the least clean of the 14 rooms we stayed in on this trip from NY to New Mexico & back. It wasn't dirty, just a bit dusty (and the other places were immaculate - kudos to America's housekeepers). The in-room fireplace was shut off for the season, which was disappointing, and the path around the pond was knee-deep in duck poop. The area around is so pretty and deer are everywhere. I didn't not like it - I just thought it was average.
