“Nice Lodging Option When Travelling I-79 in Central West Virginia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

The Microtel Inn & Suites is a good choice for folks who need to stay overnight in Central West Virginia. The rooms are very modern and if you get a double on the 2nd floor on the left as you enter the building there is a nice view of the setting sun over the mountain.

Likes:

The best lighting I have EVER had in a model. Free breakfast that included the morning I was there gravy and biscuts!

Dislikes:

Really thin walls. Bring ear plugs or a white noice machine. A buzzing digital alarm clock that I had to unplug.

Only choice at this exit so at 1:30 a.m. stopped and got a room. Was "upgraded" to a suite at no extra charge; although, I found the rate to be higher for Microtel than usual. Lots of room in the suite: Couch sitting area, bathroom, room divider with sink, micro, fridge; TV and most importantly, a good-sleepinhg bed. You almost miss finding this hotel as it's at the top of a hill. Better signage on where to go would be a welcome addition. Quiet enough that I slept in until 9:30. Coffee was good; I skipped breakfast. Bathroom was clean; shower was clean and had nice water pressure. All in all just what I was looking for to grab some sleep before hitting the road again.

Looked like this was going to be our best bet for a pet friendly motel in the area, but our room was a disappointment. The rugs were obviously dirty from pet stains - grossly so. Any Wal Mart has a cheap home version of a carpet steamer in the $100 range to readily spot treat "accidents." Carpet was also thread bare, perhaps from where some unhappy dog was left alone and scratched through. When I mentioned this to Stevie at the front desk, not wanting our well behaved, house-broken 5-lb toy poodle to get blamed for it, she tore herself away from the computer screen long enough to acknowledge, oh, yeah, they're going to re-do the carpet...like that's supposed to make us feel better about getting charged a $20 pet fee for a room with filthy carpets? Tacky. In all fairness, the bathroom was spotless. Asked about a room with fridge and micro, which were only available in no-pet suites. Check in was dry and perfunctory, almost as though we were a bother. Happily the next morning, check out was warm and friendly. Standard continental, lovely setting. Automatic front doors were nice, but my husband wears a leg brace and the pet friendly rooms were waaaay down the hall. So we hauled everything in & out through the side doors... Would we stay here again? Probably not - at least not without checking the room lst. No pool or exercise equipment or printer for the computer in the lobby. We travel with laptops, and had to bring our wireless printer in from the truck to print off the permits we needed for the next day. We are not crabby old people, or demanding motel guests. We travel almost full time, and usually have had excellent experiences with Microtels. But just like any chain, quality varies.

The building is interestingly located at the top of a small hill, so you'll certainly miss it if you are not looking for it. The drive from highway to the hotel is not too well lit at night. The building itself is seemed to be quite new. The only problems we encountered was the lined phone not working - not much a problem to us; and coffee maker is not provided in the room. The breakfast variety is adequate, but there are only TWO small tables in the breakfast area - for this 3-storey hotel. Otherwise, this is not a place to an overnight stay.

Beautiful view of Fall foliage. Very clean with great rates. Continental breakfast and friendly service. Walls are thin. We ran the bathroom fan and AC to drown put some of the noise from next room. Ask for a room on the top and away from the others.

Great clean hotel. Good price. Continental breakfast is included. It is atop of a steep hill. The walls are thin so we heard noise from above us. Great place to see the beautiful fall leaves along the interstate etc. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill. It was raining that night and very foggy on the interstate and the drive to the hotel.

Room Tip: Top floor so you won't hear the people above you. You will get to see a better view of the beaut...

I arrived around 2:30 pm room to get a semi into (at top of a steep hill)...i was checked in by the manager...was surprised at the low price $59.00....room was standard microtel , very small , clean,,very well lit,bed as comfy as any big dollar chain, cold A/C and hot water ....room would be cramped for a family but for one person it is perfect...short walk down hill to pizza hut...only complaint is that the walls are paper thin you can here the people in the next room talking...but for the comfort and price it is a real bargain...If Im ever back in the area this is where I would stay again...

Room Tip: if sleeping in the daytime ask to be put away from other guests because wall are thin
