My sister and I were looking for a place to stay along the highway; we chose Microtel because it seemed to be the only motel for several miles. We should have gone 7 more miles north!
The appearance of lobby and room was certainly pleasing! However, within 5 minutes we discovered that although there were only 6-7 rooms occupied that night, we were all grouped in same small space and most were occupired by construction workers! Nothing against construction workers, but when their room is on top of yours, it can be noisy!!!
Especially when you find out immediately that there is NO soundproofing (you can hear everything they say to each other), the piples of their shower run down your wall so you hear water runnning as if it were in your room,, and the coup de grace: when they pee'd, it was as though it was exploding into toilet right on your head! Honestly!!!! We complained to the attendant who said she would call and ask them to "behave better!" Of course, we heard the same noises early the next morning when they woke up, pee'ed and bathed, and went to work.
When we tried to tell front desk clerk the next morning, she just apologized; we asked for the manager who had heard our discourse from her office and blasely sauntered out, only to shoo away the 2 concerned maids standing near who had listened, , saying it was none of their business! My final words to the imperious manager were that "at least the maids showed some concern since she obviously didn't" It was awful!
That was our first and last overnight in Microtel!
