“Family Skiing at its Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2008

My wife and I are both experienced skiers who wanted to introduce our children to snow skiing.
We found the staff to be very friendly and the slopes to be well groomed. Our children loved the ski school and were up and skiiig in no time.
Our only negatives would be the lack of reasonable accomodations and limited extracurricular activities.Several overpriced houses are located on the slopes and one older condo complex.
We enjoyed our stay at Winterplace and would reccomend it especially if you can afford to stay slopeside.

“"It is what it is!"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2008

This place has a great location, average food at an above average price, with very inconsistent service.

The slopes are nice, but even after what the local paper called a blizzard the place was still only about haft open. The snow blowers blow constantly and the slopes are full of out of control beginners.

If you catch winterplace completely open you can have a great day. The lifts on the far side of the mountain are not to crowded, but the lifts at the base are very busy. Try to go during the week.

WinterPlace is best the days after a big snow or long periods of cold after the temperature crosses into the mid 30's and they turn off the loud, wet, and wick cold snow blowers (I know the blowers keep them in business but I hate them.)

If you are stuck there on a weekend or holiday get there early, do not break at lunch because all the group come in during lunch, and ski after 4 in the evenings. When you ski in to the lodge if you ski to the bottom of the hill you must take a lift to the lodge and the line is always long, so take "country roads" to the lodge. You may have to "pole" a little but it beats standing in the cold in a long line.

When all is said and done, "it is what it is" and that is a place that caters to big groups of teenagers. They move groups through the rental process quickly and they help students when they lose or break equipment.
