“Disgustingly Dirty and Bugs everywhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Terrible Rainy night, April 28, 2013. Been driving north from Spring Hill Fl. For 14 hours when we decided to pull into this Quality Inn for the night. BIG MISTAKE! We were exhausted, otherwise we wouldn't have stayed, the room was beyond decrepit, FILTHY sink and counter, mouldy shower stall, curtains frayed and barely attached to the rod, more boot marks than I could count on the unpainted steel door to the room......and that was the inside! Photo's available. WV State Tourism Board notified to check out bugs and house keeping standards.

Room Tip: Bypass this establishment!

We certainly apologize for any guests' inconvenient or unsatisfactory stay. We would have loved to have seen the problems encountered during the guests stay and had an opportunity to correct them. We certainly stand by Choice Hotels 100 % satisfaction guarantee policy. We strive to make each and every guests stay an enjoyable one and when we don't meet guest expectations we are disappointed. We will use this review as we do any review as an opportunity to make our hotel a better place to stay and strive to provide good customer service.

I have stayed here many times over the years, as it is just past the half way point on our way to Myrtle Beach. The service is good, staff friendly. The rooms have been upgraded which was a bonus. Rooms were clean, bathroom sink needed replacement as it was rusty around the drain. Good value for the money.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the ground level, you can back your car right up to the door, this makes it eas...

The service at this hotel was fantastic: everyone was super nice and I've never had a hotel welcome me by having my name written on a dry erase board and handing me a goodie bag with bottled water and granola bars at check in. I felt quite welcome. The location is also great, close to the highway, the bridge, all the outdoor activities of the gorge area. The downside is that this hotel is old. Room did have a small flat screen tv and decent bedding, but everything else looked like it had been there awhile. Also, the room had that distinct old hotel smell. It still felt clean, but could clearly use a remodel. If you're just looking for a place to crash on a rafting trip, this will suit your needs just fine, just don't arrive expecting anything shiny and new. Wanted to try the onsite restaurant, but walked in there at dinner time on a Friday night and it was already a super smokey bar at that point- only a few tables, none of which had anyone actually eating food at them so we left.

I was looking for hotels in the area for Bridge day with one main criteria of proximity to the bridge since it was our first time for Bridge day and didn't know what to expect. I first booked at the Comfort Inn in Oak Hill since no rooms were available at this Quality Inn when I was looking. I kept looking for cheaper/better options and found 2 rooms available at this hotel at a cheaper price than the Comfort Inn - still $200 per night - not really cheap! After I booked the rooms online, closer to our arrival date, I noticed on their website that they had Bridge Day package for the same price that I was paying for 2 nights. So, I called and first spoke to Susan who sounded friendly and suggested that I call next day to speak to Denise, the manager. So, I spoke to Denise the next day who was also very friendly and offered to convert our reservation to the Bridge day package if possible depending on how many shirts and tickets they have left over.

When we arrived at the hotel, Denise had indeed left the package of t-shirts, tickets, etc. for us at the desk. Susan, who sounded friendly on the phone did not appear so at all in person - maybe she was tired or just changed her mind about us after she saw us or whatever - not a smile, not a helpful answer to any of our questions - basically we felt like we were just a hassle for her. All other people at the hotel seemed very friendly. Did not get to meet Denise -wanted to thank her for the package. Anyway, the hotel looks old and run down, has a feel of a really old motel. We have never stayed before in a motel/hotel like this before. The rooms appeared to be clean though and we had a refrigerator and a microwave in the rooms which helped a lot. Breakfast was quite good with make-your-own waffles among many other choices. We were only expecting donuts and muffins since it said continental breakfast which was included with the rooms. We did not eat dinner in their restaurant even though we had free tickets to prime rib dinner for one night as most in our group were vegetarians. There is a DQ right next door and few other options for dining at short drives.
This is a perfect place to stay for Bridge day as a shuttle stop was about 10-15 minute walk from the hotel (you could even park at the high school where the shuttle stop was) and the hotel is really close to the Bridge to visit the gorge next day.
Overall, without experience to compare any other hotels in this area, I would stay here again only for Bridge Day. People are nice -mostly, rooms seemed clean even if old, and breakfast was good.

We stayed here for 2 nights this past weekend, and purchased the Bridge Day Weekend package. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly when we checked in. They explained to us what our package included. The manager's name is Denise, and she welcomed us to her hotel. We had requested a room on the 2nd floor with 2 double beds, and this is what we got. The room was clean with plenty of towels, and a small refrigerator, coffee maker, and basic toiletries. The hotel is the closest property of this sort near the New River Gorge Bridge, and was full during our stay. Our package included tickets for A Taste of Bridge Day (which was held at another location in Fayetteville), breakfast both mornings, and also a prime rib buffet on Saturday night. The breakfast was standard fare, but it was presented nicely and the breakfast room was large so we did not feel crowded. The prime rib buffet was held in a room next to the (smokey) bar, and was very good.

We will definitely stay here again next year for Bridge Day. We will request a room on the inside of the property as it is right next to Highway 19, and the trucks at night time are quite loud. Other than that, it suited our needs perfectly.

Thank you for your comments ! We're glad you had a memorable Bridge Day ! We are working hard to make next years Bridge Day package the best ever ! We are trying to incorporate a trip to the bottom of the gorge in the package to give a different view and perspective.
We are constantly trying to improve room conditions and hope to remodel an additional 30 rooms this coming spring. Thanks again and come see us !

We stayed at this Quality Inn while on vacation. The problems far out weigh the positive aspects of the experience. The desk personnel were friendly and helpful which is a good thing considering the problems! To start with there was no stopper in the bath-tub; how could housekeeping overlook this??? The maintenance man brought one when his shift started---that was at about 7 p.m. The lighting wattage was low so all lamps needed to work, which they did AFTER we asked the desk for a replacement bulb. The beds were totally worn out which gave us a poor night's rest. The air-conditioner had a tremendous amount of dust/mold/filth accumulated on the coils and the fan blew all that microscopic "stuff" into the air; certainly not good for anyone's respiratory system. The worst point is the commode that wouldn't flush. The mechanism on the handle had been brazed back together so many times after it rusted away that the chain could not stay connected to lift the flapper valve. That meant putting one's hand into the tank (yuck, yuck, yuck!) to grab the chain and engage a flush. We would not stay here again nor would we suggest you or anyone else should until the place is overhauled.

If you do stay here, be advised that all the rooms with king-size beds on the the highway side; rooms on the inside are doubles. There are NO Queens!

Stayed here with my wife and son for 2 nights this past August while in town for a wedding. It is obviously an older motel but you can also tell that the owners are putting some money back into it and actually care about providing a good experience to their guests. The pool has been resurfaced and is a nice area to kick back and relax, the rooms are in good shape and are kept clean, and the complimentary breakfast is pretty good too, Yummmm, biscuits and gravy.

Its a roadside motel outside a tiny town in the hills of West Virginia that is catering predominantly to white water rafters and people out for some weekend adventure in the mountains. If you are looking for a fancy marble countertop, concierge service big town hotel you should just keep driving, for a long ways. If you just want a good clean place with friendly people to chill out in the evenings and get a good nights rest then this is your place.

Room Tip: If you are looking for a good place for dinner, try Dirty Ernies about a mile north on Route 19 on t...
